  1. Bumping a thread from 2005 because I'm having a similar issue.

Grinding/rubbing noise from the CAS, very noticeable at 1000-2000rpm
If I'm driving through a carpark, it's like a constant metal rubbing noise.

Took a video of it if anyone is interested and can confirm it they think it's bearings or not

  2. MOAR LOW AND MOAR LOUD!

The car came with some HKS shocks but they were loud and clunky, so I decided to upgrade to some MCA Blue coilovers.
Currently the car is still only running with the back set in, haven't been bothered to put the front set in yet.

Also purchased a new exhaust from JustJap around the same time and both got installed.
The exhaust was fun for the first few days but then turned into being a problem and still is.
It's got a very very bad drone, hopefully this will be fixed soon in a new update.

I also got a highflow cat installed at the same time as the exhaust.

The car actually really hasn't been lowered at all, if anything it's probably higher than it was with the HKS exhaust.
I don't mind the way it sits at the moment but this may change later.

  3. GET RID OF THAT UGLY FRONT BAR!

I managed to source a nice series 1 bar from one of the guys on here, sorry couldn't remember the name for a shout out.
But Mat helped me find what I needed with a series 1 reo and all the parts needed with that as well.
    Thanks buddy :D

    Off it comes

    Old vs New

It wasn't long until the front bar got painted, around the same time I purchased a new intercooler as well.
Both were installed at the same time, the front bars colour isn't perfect but I'm happy with it for a $200-300 job.
It also has some cool little black vents which I think are a nice touch.

  4. BURNING OF FRIENDSHIPS

So upon returning home from NZ, I had some great plans for the car.
From the beginning the goal was always going to be 300rwkw on E85 with however much boost it took to get there on a responsive setup.

I already had a 250rwkw R33 which was great fun to drive, but it just didn't hit the spot.
Some of you guys will probably remember it as it had it's fair share of issues.

Well the story behind that car was a sad one, so I'll keep it as short as possible but I think it needs to be in here. As it helped set the course of this build.
I had saved up a good sum of coin while working over in NZ for the 4 months, so already had started ordering parts.

It was only a few months being back and my best friend since year 1 approached me and asked if he could purchase the R33 off me. The plan was to sell it and help fund the remaining costs of the R34 build. He didn't have the full amount upfront but had agreed to purchase it for $5,000 with $2,000 up front and the other $3,000 in a few weeks.

    10296148_10152095436731483_5489335352090530254_o.thumb.jpg.be06f008cf3743a93d42a97a689a60a4.jpg

We swapped over the black rims from the R33 onto the R34 and I allowed him to borrow the SE37's until he found his own rims. I wasn't going to let him keep the SE37's as they were worth a fair bit. Fast forward a year and he still hadn't paid me the remaining $3,000 and he had also had the SE37's "stolen" from him. There goes that friendship and my plan to sell the R33 and SE37's to fund my project.

Anyways the R34 looked mint with the new black rims on it anyways, so I'm glad I had them. As you can see by this photo below, I was ashamed of the ugly series 2 front bar so I left it out of photos haha.

The front bar needed to go and needed to go ASAP!
Calling @34GeeTeeTee for help with that one!
(he was the one giving the most shit about the front bar, constantly posting puking emojis when ever he saw it)

  5. Hey SAU,

Thought it was about time that I started a thread for my build which has been happening over the last 3-4 years I think.
There have been some set backs and some highs/lows as pretty much every person has probably experienced.

    THE BEGINNING

I purchased the car with the help of Iron Chef Imports. Fresh from Japan and the exact colour that I wanted.
The car is a R34 GTT Series 2 (2000 model), it was imported with just over 90,000km on the clock and a few little imperfections.
I was pretty happy because the price was reasonable and it also came with a complete set of SE37 rims, which can fetch a good penny.

The ownership didn't get off to a great start, as the car was imported and took roughly 9 months until it was finally in my hands.
It sat at the compliance shop for around 6-7 months of that time as I waited and waited. This was probably the most stressful part of the ownership of this car.
To know that the car was only a few hours away from me and just sitting locked up for so long was a killer. Iron Chef did as much as they could but unfortunately there was some sticky situation going on at compliance which meant it couldn't be released to me. So there it sat gather dust.

Finally the day came and I was told to go and pick the car up and pretty much GTFO, I had my Aunty and Uncle pick the car up for me and they had an argument with the owner at the shop as the car was received with bald tyres and headlights that didn't work. They had been audited during that 6-7 months and blamed it on me because they thought I was complaining with the compliance registry place. I went up to Sydney and picked the car up and finally it was at home. Just in time for me to head off to NZ for 4 months for work haha.

Took a snap before putting it in the garage and packing her away for another 4 months.

Met some awesome people over in NZ and managed to meet up with a SAU member Adam. He was nice enough to drive over and pick me up from the hotel and we went on a cruise with some like-minded people. Everyone was very welcoming, took a fair few photos. Below are a couple.

After returning from NZ, the build and collection of parts begins.
Creating a new post for that part.

There's no reason why a return flow cooler couldn't have a decent end tank and pipe connection that flows properly.  None.  It may be the case that most (or maybe just many) of the common ones suck and there's a small number that behave themselves.

I saw one that I think Scotty posted, pipes running under and up where your radiator hoses are, means it will have to be custom pipework but that's not too expensive. Especially if it eliminates the costs of cutting a hole under the battery tray.

I think later down the track I'll just buy a PWR intercooler and some custom pipework to run nice and short without cutting.

  7. I'm curious as well how people are running their cooler pipes on the R34's
My previous R33 had the hold under the battery tray, went over the pits here in Canberra and they didn't look twice at it. However I hear that NSW has more of a problem with it.

@hyper-gear have you done a PWR cooler with return flow piping or similar?
Maybe I could swap out the core and keep the same piping if that's not a restriction with the 90 degree bend.

I advise everyone to obtain that cooler direct from PWR. I trailed it is because majority people whom complaint about a boost tapering issue had a blitz return flow cooler and so did mine. Yes I changed nothing but intercooler kits during those evaluations and PWR 600x300x89mm cooler has proven to be the best one out of the bunch. Once again my advise and test data on this matter is general.

I think you missed the part where he said that PWR said over the phone that there is no cooler of that measurements 600x300x89mm
    The closest they have is R33 GTR PWR 600 x 265 x 81

So there must be confusion with either your measurements or the one you have isn't PWR?
Can you list the part number for your 600x300x89mm if you have one?

Exhaust isnt a jap branded jasma badged one is it ?

    http://www.zssracing.com.au/zss-attack-dt-exhaust-system-nissan-silvia-s15.html

This but suited for R34 GTT, so no step downs to 2inch or anything silly

    Possibly collapsed mufflers also.

No muffler on it, 3inch dump into 3 inch highfow cat + resonator out of a big cannon

  10. Interesting to see that you guys made that on such similar setup. My cat is very highflow. And the intake is a scotty special so no way it could suck shut.

Exhaust is just a normal 3 inch stainless steel with resonator and cannon. Going to be swapping cannon to a oval muffler soon.

Can't really see what else would be causing my particular setup restrictions other than the wastegate, intercooler or intake. But if you guys are running similar then I'm stumped. Intercooler has been proven in the past to be an issue though.

No idea sorry, some people have massive restrictions but then there is also Greg who runs one with 400rwkw

My exhaust is a 3inch just jump dump, decat and some jap brand 3 to 3.5 inch cat back

Seems like your setup is pretty much exact same as me, only difference is the intercooler.
I purchased some splitfire coils today because I'm having misfire issues from what I can tell.

Will look into a cooler in a few months once I save the coin up.

    Interesting

    I got the 1st Gen ATR45's

And i got all 3 of your "issues"

-Stock Intake with highflow filter (This is a problem)
-Blitz Return Flow (This is a problem)
    -Stock coils (Potential problem)

Difference is my cooler is a normal FMIC but with return flow piping.

Made 380rwkw on Trent's dyno and ~355 rwkw on racepace dyno. From memory mine was about 23psi bleeding down to 18~19 or something

Yeah that is interesting, you wouldn't think changing the cooler from blitz to a normal cooler would make it jump up an extra 60-70kw.
    What exhaust are you running?

Mine is 3inch all the way through with only cat, resonator and the cannon at the end.
I'm thinking of swapping the cannon out for a good muffler to help with drone and noise, not sure if that's a step back or not though.
