I believe it is the gt3071R or gt3076r....its hard to compare because they work in different ps rating ranges. Like you say though, the difference really starts on higher boost applications however i have still noticed differences on relativley low boost.
-
Its nowhere near as good, almost all HKS turbos have an equivelant Garrett turbo being that they are both made the same. But there is a big difference in response and overall peformance. I have been in cars with the exact same turbos, HKS and Garrett versions. You notice the difference.
-
you mean price wise or what the difference in boost response etc is? Garrett make HKS turbos and they also make a 3037...the difference is the wheels, HKS put different wheels in their turbos to make them respond faster and smoother etc etc...But Garrett turbos are cheaper than HKS, so i guess you way up the options.

your right about the fconv too, they are an awesome computer...just very hard to tune being they are in japanese and almost noone in aust has the software. Other than that they have so many features and allow an amazing tune. My car had been tuned by garage saurus in japan but they must have made the map a lot richer when the car was sold because the afr's were a joke when it was dyno'd at millenium.
-
It was good for a turbo of its size, I had cams which aided it, but it came on around the 3800-4000 mark at 1bar.
-
was going to but never got around to it and eventually sold the car.....to tempting. I need my license and it was annoying to go driving and worry about the police pulling me over for a check and going, excuse me sir but why does that screamer pipe vent into the atmosphere? (amongst otherthings) Im going to wait and have 2 cars, one for track and one for the street. Its a much better and safer equation. I do miss the fun though..alot!
-
try finding someone to tune an FCONV...it doesnt happen in qld...so I used to have to contend with an extremely anoying idle and some very rich afr's. I believe that Matty Spry might have the software now though.
-
I used to get 290rwkw at 1bar..it was a little laggy though coming on around the 3800 - 4000rpm range. Thats the problem with high singles though, cams helped but yea. Still thats what made it so fun, I trust you have the same fun in your car.
-
Your car is primarily set up for track so I took it as much thats what you would be focused on. Dont suppose you have a 1/4 time? How long have you owned that car?
-
bunta what sort of power is your car producing as is and have you done any track work with it?
-
veilside side skirts look completely different. A lot worse if you ask me.

No car atm, looking for a new one. Used to have an r33 gtst with a bit done to it. High mount HKS 3037, HKS External Gate, HKS manifold & exhaust/screamer, Tomei Cams, HKS Cooler, Greddy plenum, Nismo 550cc Injectors, Nismo 1.5waylsd, HKS FCONV computer, etc...was a fair bit of fun. But a little impracticle.

I'll take all your money anytime its convenient for you, ive seen the noosa hillclimb many times as well as other targa and hillclimb events. I'll open a bank account for you and you can transfer said funds. I've seen their skills and their cars. Both are very impresive. But they race the noosa hillclimb once a yr. Not more than once a week. One grows acustom to a track when you are on it close to every day. Thing is, like josh is saying your thinking way to big. We arent comparing open wheelers to regular track cars and we aren't comparing national events and drivers to josh and or other peoples skills. What we are trying to say is the times spoken about arent impossible for a car set up in the correct manner (be it a jap import) and driven to its full potential (be it by a 20yo) on any given day at GYDNDIER DRIVE. Not at any other meet. Is an open wheeler faster than a normal car. Well yes in usual circumstances you would hope so, otherwise what is the point in their existance. However either way this can't be proved so I dont believe that anyone can rule out the possibility that a fast jap car set up correctly, with a driver possessing a ton of experience on the road could set slightly slower times.

hrd-hr30: From what your saying above you believe that the cars that race in the noosa hillclimb are basicly as good as it gets and no modern car could possibly beat them, no matter how its "slapped" together? In addition to this you believe anyone thats 20years old and doesnt race at events 24/7 cannot drive? And finally a 20yr old could never beat the people that drive in the noosa hillclimb, because they are all seasoned racers that are just, that good? Please! Does this about sum it up? Surely its no so hard to believe that a well set up jap car could do quick times and surely its not so hard to assume that a 20 year old driving that car could do those times given that they drive that car on a daily basis and regulary drive that road? I guess seen as you know josh and everyone else on here so well you know that its just not possible....did you ever think that maybe it just is possible? That the people racing in the noosa hillclimb arent in the fastest cars and dont set the fastest times humanly possible? Maybe im wrong but I think that there's the slightest possibility that your wrong. I guess everyone has theyre own opinion and clearly you arent open to possibilities other than your own.

Have said tape above around some place, dont really know where. Ill try to find it. Meh the majority of the cars that race in the hill climb are old crappers like everyone has said, and regardless of the fact its a "historic event" many of the cars that enter could hardly be considered "historic". I'd back Josh, Brad or anyone with some skill and a decently set up modern car to beat any of the old codgers up the hill any day anyway. I've seen them race up there many times doing quicker times and in much better style to boot. Maybe drifting the corners isnt the "cool" thing to do for the "harcore" race enthusiasts that enter the event. I can vouch that many of the "true racers" that set these "amazingly fast" times in the hill climb spent just as much time up there "practicing" when the road was open as we did drifting/racing. So that puts them in the same category as the "street racers" and "hoons" of today. I suppose the difference was they were doing it in a pos torana with their 6yo kid in the car yelling at us for drifting. I guess thats acceptable though seen as they "race" in the awesome event that is the noosa hillclimb. IMO they should be scratching the rediculous event or second seating it to a better targa event that see's a widder variety of better, faster cars, of course the road isnt all that long so they might have to seek out a larger track. Meh regardless its an absolute waste of money to resurface that road for a one weekend event that does basicly nothing for the noosa economy and nothing for the general public. To many old people, to many old cars and too much wasted money and time. Scrap it and move on to something else, like fixing the rediculous state of all the other roads, or maybe open the road again so everyone can return to having fun on it. my 2c, kthanxbye
