Wow thanks for all that i might just keep looking around for a while. Im in no hurry to do anything just yet and i'll probably only really start to act sometime next year. Sounds like you had a really good experience with them too so i wont just stick to looking in one place. And whats the deal with compliancing over east? Have they got less strict regulations or something? I dont think time and waiting will be a problem for me i dont mind waiting a while for something

I just might consider importing a car from the great country of Japan, and have a few questions about it as im kind of new to it all Im going off the j-spec imports site and they give a rough prediction of the price for every car for everything, excluding compliance. Are there any other sites as comprehensive as j-spec? How much is compliance, on average? How long does the entire process take? from me choosing a car to it being in aus and me driving it Cant think of any more right now but i'll probably come into some more

I have now learnt not all auto 34's are tipronic, but i think most of them are. Still on the lookout and nothing is really shouting out at me yet. I think im gonna have to make do with a tiptronic instead of manual, which has pro's and con's like everything, but im not too phased by that really. I'd just be stoked to own one at all
-
I'd like to see and hopefully test a tiptronic before judging it too much. And is it the same system as in the stageas?
-
Yeah ive driven a v8 ford ute with a tiptronic thing too and it was really slow to react. I would much rather manual but if i cant find one i'll still be happy to settle with a tiptronic if its any good.
-
Yeah if you ask we might both learn something hah if you can use it kind of like a manual i might consider one, even if its not really the same thing
-
Yeah there are some factory manuals but only TT's, the supra converted one i mentioned was a v8. You can get a half decent soarer for 4k, but a lot of them have fairly high km's on them. Theres a nice white one on gumtree now for about 6k? i think. haha now im giving you advice on cars. Yeah i just had a quick look at both sites and the range was pretty good and tons of info on each car. I spose what im looking for isnt the easiest thing to find, heaps of turbos but all the n/a's are auto which is teh ghey. Tiptronic kind of bridges the gap but how exactly does it work? I know it has a normal auto box with a quickshift thing on the side, but how do the steering wheel controls work? Ive never actually seen one close up
-
Alright sweet i'll have a look around tonight through them. Well to be honest the v8 is more of a cruiser than a true sportscar compared to the TT's, with a half decent exhaust they sound incredible though, but handling wise theyre not so good. Most of the ones that i have seen have the factory airbag suspension system so to get a good handling one you need to look for a UZZ30 model, they had normal coilovers all round. True they are all auto but one was floating around a few weeks ago for sale with a W58 supra 5 speed conversion in it for 10k i think

Cheers for the help guys. Yeah i have a few mates with imports and ive driven most of their cars i think. Ive driven an 01 wrx, 32 gtst, n/a s13 and a soarer v8 so far. And what are some good sites to look for imports? Because i seem to be stuck on just gumtree, car sales, silWA and SAU.

Okay so ive changed my mind once more, buti think its for good now. I want a manual non turbo 34 coupe. Which i think has been inspired by Jonno's, that picture looks delicious
-
Yeah im starting to think about R33 sedans now, because of age and they tend to be more unmolested. Plus i just love their dash clusters
-
This is true, if not obvious hah. What kind of money would a bog stock turbo manual s13 bring? given i could find one in the first place
-
Yeah i'd love to go straight to a turbo car but being a student with not a massive income kind of restricts me for price and fuel consumption. I suppose it depends more on how you drive than what you drive though.
-
I'll try and tell him about it all but hes not the sharpest tool in the shed so he might not understand or have heard about this before. Anyway back to me, what are peoples thoughts on a non turbo manual S13?(despite the fact im on skylines australia) Any reviews i could watch from the early 90's or something?
-
my mates trying to sell his with pretty much the same mods, he's asking 9-11k but i think maybe 8k is more reasonable
-
Yeah i'd love like a 97/98 vvti soarer but theyre just out of my reach at this point. The black interiors look so much better than grey/blue i think. I know a guy with a series 1 TT and hes having troubles getting it to handle properly without having it sitting on the ground
-
hah one of my commodore loving mates welded his in a ute and it only lasted 2 weeks
-
Since posting this ive seen a lot of soarers around and love the look of them. But because im still a student and my bank isnt huge, im thinking of maybe a non turbo silvia, for the sheer entry-levelness of them. Manual of course. My mate used to have one and even though it wasnt the fastest thing in a straight line it handled on rails, it was setup for drift had everything but a turbo pretty much.

haha the rb20 cops so much flack, i like it, kind of an underdog. im not looking for too much power right now anyway. that 33 v spec link looks like a scam too, 10k for a very low k's gtr with mods is way too cheap.
-
Well im looking up to 10k for now i guess. And i know about the KPGC10's being mega dollars these days. I'd prefer a manual coupe of some sort anything back to 1990ish, and i'd want one fairly stock so i can mod it myself, its a better feeling than getting a ready made machine. My mate has a 32 gtst manual which i helped him work on and i love driving it around when i can, and another friend has an 01 wrx which handles on rails. Maybe a 32 GTS4 because i like the shape and AWD grip feels awesome

hey all, im new to the forum and im half looking at getting my first import and out of the commodore. need some advice ont what to get, im considering everything from silvias and skylines, to soarers for some luxury. i dont need a car stupidly fast but i want some creature comforts aswell. what would be suitable and within a reasonable price range?
