$$ Spun Rod Bearing In Fully Built Rb30 :(
ZT-R replied to ZT-R's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
The only thing I did was put a few shims on the oil pump to back off some of the pressure. I had it down to 50 at idle and above 100 at 3200. Before it was idling at 80-90psi. Could that have done anything? I did that about 500 miles ago. -

Dont know the clearance specs yet. I will look at the oil pump closer today. -

Mains look ok. Check the mains for runout. Only other damage i found was a scar in the oil pump, but thats to be expected. -

I wouldnt think it would get any better the a R.I.P.S. build. Everything is out now, so its no longer a rips Anyone can assemble them, but not to his specs and attention to detail, Although I think i will debur the inside of this block, its ugly and quiet scary looking. The number one piston is out of round by 8 thousandths. and the crank is egged. So for sure needs a new crank and rod. Anyway, more disassembly pics. -

Just pulled the number 1 rod yesterday, going to pull the crank today, hate too since its a very high precision build. -

Im going to pull the oil pump apart today, but i was still getting normal pressures, so I doubt its the pump. Only about 2,000 miles on her since the rebuild. Havent even turned up the boost I was fun as hell at 12psi though. -
Death of a rb30. Still trying to figure out what happened. Just cruising down the interstate and started hearing it. No loss of oil pressure, i always look at that and have audible warnings and visual warnings on it. 93632

Bump.

That is exactly how I did mine.

Anyone have a 6466 or 6766 on a RB30 with RB26 head?
-
I am being told that the GTX2860/2863/2867 all spool almost the same. I have a hard time believing this. All do use the same Turbine.
-
Well ATP called and said the 2860 with the skyline style is delayed. you can get the 2863 and 2867 though. Which works out great cause i just ordered a rips forged RB30 block. Now i have to decide on turbos. I dont want 800whp in a 2600 pound car so im trying to figure out what to order. what do you guys think.
-
Yea, we will see, All i would need to do is change the housings. I have a tig welder and all that crap so it wouldnt be a problem to do the work. My block is stock for the time being so I willnt be running massive hp at the moment.

ATP turbo how has a housing that is bolt on to the skyline... Im sure there were be some sort of difference in the 2 housings, If you want the full benefits of the gtx i would stay with the 3" intake with the anti surge, but im gonna try it out and see what happens. I got the 2860gtx. I was gonna get the -5 but I have been talking to ATP and they finally got it done. Like I say I will probably by the gunnie pig but oh well. I can change out the housing if it surges alot or something. But then again im probably not gonna be running big numbers yet and the limit of the 2860-5 seems to be more of the exhaust side than the compressor anyway, so this might be a compromise between the two, or it mike work just fine, we shall see.

Just ordered some GTX2860 for my rb26... Stay tuned.

Would A 2860 -7 Or -9 Benefit From Ported Exhaust Housing?
ZT-R replied to ZT-R's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Be nice if you can use the aem to control that but i guess you would still pretty much need the hks vcam setup. -

ZT-R replied to ZT-R's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Not the exhaust manifold porting, the turbine housing for the turbo. I really would like the -9 I think but I havent seen any rwd numbers close to the 500 mark. Thats why im wondering if you ported the housing of the -9 turbo from a .64 A/R to something like a .72 A/R or something (light extrude hone), if it would gain any up top, I know you would probably loose a touch of spool though. -

ZT-R replied to ZT-R's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
From ATP email today. "They would be just like the -7 and -10 turbos. You won't get the GTX comp housings with built in anti-surge though and so these will have the skyline style compressor housings with 2 bolt inlet and 2 bolt outlet and no way to integrate the anti-surge machining. -

Thats not that confusing. Just gotta be looking at it. -

On garret website turbo 2859r (707160-9) shows a 62 trim .64 a/r the -7 ( (N1) 707160-7) 2860r shows 62 trim .64 a/r the 2860-5 (707160-5) show a 76 trim .64 a/r the site is sort of misleading because 2860r are listed as 2860r (1) 2860r (2) 2860r (3). the GTSS is the 2859r so there is 4. i believe the 2860 (3) is essentially a disco potato, its part number is 739548-9 so dont confuse the to -9 turbos. -
Hey guys I talked to ATP turbo and they said they will soon have the GTX2860 as a bolt in for the skyline. I am looking for 450-500whp in my S30 240z. I know that kind of power is typically the GT2860-5 which has 76 .64 a/r turbine. the -7(n1) and -9 (gtss) have 62 trim .64 a/r. Do you think by extrude honing the -7/-9 .64 a/r housing that would have any benefit to the turbo still using the smaller .62 trim wheel? or is the wheel what is keeping this turbine back in power? Thanks. lee

Belive me I tried. There is no room for anything in this bay. If I stay with the twins i am going to make a duct for the filter. I kinda planned on going small to midsized single turbo from the start. This setup is just to get the bugs worked out before I make the horsepower jump. After seeing a lot of dyno graphs on singles I'm not so sure i want that kind of power curve. Most seem like they are off and on. Granted with the EMS i can do all kinda of traction and boost control so I just just say screw it and do it anyway.

What do you mean by setup correctly? I'm in the States so we have 93 as pump. My current setup is 1972 240z with RB26 engine. Surge isnt a concern with the -5?
