Could be the rings, could be the turbo, or it might be over filled with oil, btw how much did you pay for the gtst?
-
Hmm might be worth one last shot, I only have a standard 40 piece sidchrome socket set, if I can source a couple more 250mm extensions then I'll give it a try. Just went outside with the torch and there is a gap between the alternator and the block, with a bit of luck it won't foul on the oil filter or pressure sender. Autobarn or Repco carry a ring gear stopper? Thanks again, Mike.

Was wanting to use a torque wrench, but I'll be dammed if I'm going to spend all Saturday ripping out the manifold, rattle gun it is then. Thanks for the reply.

OK I've almost finished the installation of a new timing belt on my auto R32 gtst, everything until now has gone like clockwork, but I've run into a problem that I can't figure out. How am i going to torque up the main bolt the holds the harmonic balance/ pulley set to the crankshaft? A friend has suggested I remove the starter motor and jam a screwdriver in the teeth of the flywheel, but that is going to prove a real headache as the inside bolt on the starter motor offers zero room for my socket wrench to move, it might even require removal of the intake manifold. There has to be an alternate way, if anyone knows of a solution or has some advice I would really love to hear it, otherwise I might have to trailer it to my local garage help. Cheers Mike.

I'm going to attempt my 1st TB change on Thursday, weather permitting as I have no garage. Went over to one of my mates to borrow some tools, he made his own puller tool as a teenager in metal shop at school some 49 years ago, am eager to give it try

Oh there are lots and lots of threads, and I have been searching thanks for your help.

How many horse powers can a RB30 block handle with decent life expectancy?
-
What sort of power did the RB20 make after you got it back from Hypergear? and was there much difference in the low to mid range response? am considering doing the same. Mike.

That's pretty good considering I just filled up on BP98 @ $1.61/L

Summary: Front Mount Intercooler Options & Piping Layouts
Missileman replied to sl33py's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Would appreciate any info on installation of a Blitz return flow type kit into a 1990 32gtst, specifically wanting to know which parts of the front bar and metal supports need trimming moding etc. Cheers Mike. -
Give him a week, if he doesn't do the right thing then out him, name address, place of work, phone numbers, and email.

Were you stopped by the Dept Transport or were you another victim of a certain well known police officer from Moore?
-
Too right I suspect the seal as the cause, as I also have another R32 that's a year older and it's tank is nice and shiny, like new, and makes that psssh sound when you release the fuel cap.
-
Have any of you guys who have been running E85 for a while taken a look inside your fuel tanks recently? Have been chasing a fuel smell in the cabin, so I checked the seal between fuel tank and pump/ sender unit, looks like the O-ring was not installed correctly from the Nissan factory as it has a nice flat deformation in it. What I also found when I looked inside the tank was a rusty mess, and this was on 98ULP, since ethanol is hygroscopic would not this lead to a greater risk of corrosion?

R34 Gt-T Auto Transmission

That certainly is an option I have considered, if I needed a complete overhaul then I would be very tempted. Well they do get mentioned quite a bit, I hope it isn't a case of forum viral marketing. After I found this thread I did a little more searching on google and came up a company in Melbourne that also distribute shift kits, and they have a partner company in brisveagas... http://www.automatic...sp?NewsId=19197 http://www.wsautomat...om.au/index.php Also found in the same search was another Brisbane automatic transmission workshop that seem to be performance oriented, don't know if they have experience with Skylines though... http://www.sureshiftautomatics.com.au/ When I'm closer to getting the Shift Kit I'll phone up MV and that other Melbourne mob and see if they are the same item, I'll also ring the local agent and get a quote for supply and installation, but right now I would probably get MV to send me the kit and I'll have a crack at the install. Already found the tutorial... http://www.skylinesa...tics-shift-kit/ -
R34 Gt-T Auto Transmission

Can't believe no one responded? Must be someone in Brisbane who's good with Skyline autoboxes and has experience with shift kits? -
Yeah these forums are goldmine of information for Skyline nub like me, I like the one where he puts the long bar on the crank pulley nut then turns the ignition over to loosen it.

What condition is the inside of the tank? -
I do the basic stuff, oil, fuel, air filters, and fluids etc, not because I can do it cheaper, but because I enjoy doing it. Will be doing the timing belt and water pump next

What Noise Does Back Pressure Make?
Missileman replied to getyayayaout's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yes it does, it kind of sounds like stepping on a duck -
12.66 is just OK I have two standard 330 CCA batteries, one is a little bit sus and one is 6 months old and is in great condition, both are the same brand and model, the sus one is in my car which hasn't been driven in two days and reads 12.84v the other came off the charger about two weeks ago and reads 12.95v so the 12.66v reading is here nor there, what the sparky will do is connect it up to a heavy load for a couple of seconds and watch how the low the voltage drops and how it rebounds as the load is removed, this will give a good indication on the health of your battery.
-
I don't like like that reading 12.25v to me that indicates a flat battery. Any reading below 12.65v is an indication of less than full charge, I like to see mine between 12.80 and 13.10v after resting over night. and there in lies the problem with measuring state of charge by using a multi meter to test open circuit voltage, to get the best accuracy the battery needs to rest up to 24h after charging/ discharging for the cells to equalize. Pull the battery and put it on a charger over night then take it to an Auto Electrician to test.
