Wont fit in my R35 i'm afraid...
-
Not wrong, just a view with my experience setting up and balancing pro karts. Appreciate its the internet, but I tend to have a giggle at your scale of economy. You've got a Porsche 997 GT3 (911) yeah, 2nd hand low kms 2010 these babies set you back in the vicinity of $280-290k and a brand spankin new GTR 189k So with that $100k you have sitting in your wallet to spend on (mods , track days, and servicing) over the warrantied life of the car there's no way you're going to blow $33k/pa on services, tyres and brakes.. On top of your $$$$ on the Porsche, you've got your 12 month services or what ever they deem necessary on it.. so $289k + + + The GTR offers so much more too, in the way that it has 2 back seats and a boot that matches a reasonably priced car, where the GT3 has a roll cage, and well.. nuttin much else really What ever tickles your fancy TBH, sounds like you didn't enjoy any track days what so ever in the GTR.. Shame really its just so much win!
-
Valid reasons?? Sounds like poor mans whinging IMO.. No one forced you to buy a GTR, so stick to your Porsche and don't complain. When you buy a GTR (new) the rules are clearly explained ( and for those that don't its all in the user guide in the glove box) and the dealers are upfront on expected servicing cost over the life of the vehicle, so if you bought a GTR knowingly and track it, then deal with it. Simple as that, get over your whinging and move on **side note, less weight doesn't mean less tyre wear... Less weight also = lots of understeer and slip sliding increasing your wear... Just sayin..
-
If its a stretch, then don't buy one.......................... Common sense approach FTW
-
I don't know why everyone is complaining about GTR servicing costs. I reckon they're good value for a Supercar and much cheaper than BMW, Audi, Ferrari, Lambo equivalents... Trans oil is replaced every 30,000kms (not every service) and unless you track it, and even then only if you've exceeded the allowable trans temps.. DIY is fine, but if you have warranty and value it then best to keep it dealer serviced. For those with JDM's, well no point in taking it to a dealer due to the negativity with imports and you don't have any legs to stand on warranty wise. Aftermarket or DIY is the only way. IMO if you want Toyota Corolla priced services, buy a Toyota Corolla LOL

Better off getting the 8 stage Ctek so that you know the battery has been cycled properly, then kept in maintenance mode.. MXS 5.0 v1 is what I would recommend. I also have a Ctek battery level LED indicator strapped to my battery which has a Ctek female connector for easy charging and monitoring.
-
Use a Ctek charger. best in the business. My GTR is a weekend warrior, I drive then leave it connected during the week.

Should be right to just replace the fronts

Who is the original maker? The pics in the gumtree ad are from Autotunez, do you have any pics of the "actual" wing? Is it still boxed? -
Ok, Page 9.. Are we done yet? Apart from the fact that 90% of you have driven a holden at one time or a nother and 1% of you have driven a GTR R35, I think the mods should lock this thread as its already fked up beyond all recognition...

What amazes me is that we're now on page 8 still discussing how a HSV is better than a GTR.... WTF??
-
The only thing more fun than R35 and HSV is a Lotus Exige S Owned one, and regret selling it (some days) haha!
-
Indeed its the twisties that the falcodoors have issues coming to "grips" with hahahahahaha
-
Lucky for me I don't have a loan!
-
Having the $ to own a GTR R35 at the age of 23 makes me insanly jealous. Mind you, when I was 23 there was no such thing in existance haha I don't now his background, but either 2FA54U worked his a55 off during and after school saving his pennies, or he had one h3ll of an inheritance For me, I worked my butt off overseas for 7 years to get mine (well, the last 3 years of it anyways - the first 4 I drank my way around and had a ball hahaah)
-
My excess is $600 My wife who is 31 is also on the policy as a driver
-
I think the only negative for me with the GTR is the relatively hard ride. My wife who is 7 months preggers with another tribal member isn't enjoying it as much as she used to
-
I wonder if this will work on the 2010's? I think it has the same MFD

Shopping and long trips, no issues here. I regularly hit the old Woolworths shopping centres in Brisbane, albeit I do park it away from ford and commodore owners, and anything else that looks dodgy. I also venture into Brisbane city most weekends and park in a range of carparks there for hours on end without issues. Of course mine isn't a daily, I manage still manage to rack up the kms after work and on weekends. The GTR is surprisingly easy to work on. There are a good selection of mechanics around Brisbane - although I choose to take mine to a dealer and its a PITA to get there, but at least I know I don't have to (post warranty). The lack of rear doors isnt an issue for me and the kids. Of course full sized 1.8m+ tall adults don't fit particularily well (head room - lack of) but I don't have that issue, and if I did have to kart around 4 adults, I'd do it in the Wife's SUV. Yes, my wife has driven the GTR, and she drives it often (more than me some weeks!). She's more of a rev head than I am, which also helped getting the necessary approvals to get one in the first place Yes, sure, GTR's do draw attention, but not as much as a Lexus LFA, Ferrari, or Lambo. I was at the Downshift meet in Brisbane a few weeks back, and parked next to a black fully sik Holden R8 bro and the Commie got more looks than mine as did the Audi R8, Porsche and LFA nearby. Servicing is relatively cheap - certainly not INSANE as you say (pays to do the research!) Most services are in the vicinity of ~$500, and only the major ones (eg, full transmission + diff oils replacements - evey 30,000kms) being >$1.5k. When I was looking at buying the GTR a number of euros (not all of them entry level, but generally enthuisast type cars) came into the equation - things like Audi TT RS, Golf R, Scirocco R, BMW 1 and 3 series, etc. Basic servicing on all of these was a massive rip, almost every service around the $1k mark ($800+), and major services pushing the $2k barrier. Where the GTR blows in cost is brakes and tyres, but most of the euros I was looking at had RFT tyres as well, and overall not that much cheaper than the GTR (~$100 a corner cheaper). Brakes is another thing, $6k for OEM GTR pads and rotors but there are a range of aftermarket replacements that push that down to the $2-3k barrier (and in any case unless you're tracking it every weekend, the OEM's last 50-60,000kms) People think insurance is an issue with the GTR as well. I have mine comprehensively insured with Suncorp for an agreed value ($140k) and costs me only $880/yr. Of course this depends on your area and age (I'm 38 with rating 1 for life).... Realisticaly if you can't afford to buy a GTR, then you probably can't afford the servicing.. The Commies are much cheaper, and I think Holden still have 1% loans so not a bad bit of kit for the $$. I sat in the VF SS on the weekend, and while it feels nice, I still wouldn't touch it - and whats more my 3yr old boy looked at me with a raised eyebrow and shook his head....
-
Say what? What effing compromises?????????????????????/ I fit 2 kids in the back of the GTR very very comfortably, and space in the boot for all the rest of the sh1t that comes with them.. Makes the GTR a Family Supercar IMO, and to hell with commies without the fuel caps and kiwi ferns plastered all over the backs of them.. If you've ever owned one (its clear you know nothing but holdens), you'd know all about this, including the servicing and maintenance costs that end up cheaper than a base model Audi or BMW over a standard term of ownership... I'd take the GTR over any sort of commie every day of the week and 10 times on Sundays...
-
Interesting, I've heard a lot of people say the same thing about the Mitsubishi Evo X... I've come out of a Lotus Exige S 240 (which I used to track regularily) to the GTR, and to be honest, I can't find anything to complain about the GTR..
-
Yep that RX7 looks like a street car.... LOL And for those saying the GTR is too heavy, you obviously know nothing about Kazutoshi Mizuno's design philosophy and intent - and I'm pretty sure knows his sh1t.
-
If you want something fun on a track then get the new Lotus Exige S. 3.6ltrs supercharged and only 1100kgs. They look great, and go very well, plus a lot faster than the older models. TBH I owned the 2011 Exige S 240 and traded that up for the GTR only because the misses demanded a back seat that I could carry the kids. I certainly don't regret the upgrade as the GTR looks less angry, but underneath is more angry, and provides the necessary comforts to be considered the Family Supercar.. Plus the old 240 only hit 100 in ~4-4.5sec (with launch control) so the GTR kills that easily while bringing a smile to my face
