I removed the aircon because it nerver worked well and just made the car overheat. I still need to take off the compressor but theres a pile of junk now and adds up to a small weight saving. A front demister is required for ADR's and for most track regulations. So i have to make one. Ill keep the design basic so its easy for me to do. I bought an electric demister at a caravan shop, a piece of 100mm flex duct and two 100mm flanges from bunnings, and some plugs and a switch from jaycar. Opened up the heater to select the right replacement switch, and drew a circuit diagram of how it goes. Wired up the switch. Removed obsolete ducts under the dash and taped up the holes with metal tape (heat resistant) Only the window vent is open. Fitted the heater to the vent with strips of sheetmetal and rivets. The leftover hole is also covered by a strip of sheetmetal. The flange is also riveted on. The duct goes from the window plenum vent (the other 100mm flange is there) to the heater. Ill fit the dash in the morning, test it out and take a pic of the duct for here. I have done a bit of searching and can barely find a mention on this subject. You guys that build race cars must know how to do it properly, is there a kit or something? If any if you have done this type of thing please tell us how you did it. Thanks.

I had a problem with the Autobahn 88 filter relocator, the guys a the filter factory helped me out. The rb 20 (dunno about rb25) does not use a filter with a bypass, as the bypass is in the motor, and the thread supplied with the kit was metric, no non bypass filters with a metric thread. So i had to get a new remote filter head as the thread in the auto88 one could not be changed easily. Mine was not a direct fit and i had to put the battery in the boot to get some room. Extra money and time to custom make one to fit, it can be a real pain. Cheap to buy initially but not cheap to fit. A direct fit would be real nice. Ps: dont forget the oil thermostat!

For The Love Of God I Can't See! (Headlight Issue)

I read about a mod too keep the low on when switching to high. Basically join the high and low wires near the plug behind the dash. Ps my 32 lights are a nightmare, thinking about making a whole new circuit just for them. i just cant work out wtf is going on with the hi-lo wiring. -

I recently fitted a GTR bov to my rb20 hoping to lessen boost leakage.(rb 25 turbo) It makes a deep farting sound sometimes, it seems to be when i slowly let the throttle off from low boost. Any one know if this is normal?

Sutton Hillclimb. Anyone Do It?
D.I.Y. Mik replied to D.I.Y. Mik's topic in Australian Capital Territory
Hmmm interesting, didnt know it was $90 for the day.... does make it a little expensive, and no practice days isnt good. I think ill try it anyway, the car is suitable (pads, tyres). Ps: Kat the new pic shows the pearl. nice. -
I am joining the SDMA to get onto the track for the first time and get my cams L2s licence. Also to learn how to ready the car for trackdays, as i want to drive at Wakefield one day. Is anyone here doing it or have done it before? Found this from 2007

My mate has an rx7 and would much rather hang with you guys than the Mazda crowd. He says they just bitch about workshops, and dont know sht about their cars. You guys are approachable, nice and dont just bitch. I agree. So he will come sometimes, ill get him to bring the rotor. -
Electronic Boost Controller Installation
D.I.Y. Mik replied to Dre678's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I have both, ebc and gauge. I hardly ever look when boosting, i look at the ebc after cos it has a peak boost memory, so you can see what pressure it made. So the Autometer gauge is now a waste of money and dash space. -

Hello boys and girls, Im having a couloring in competition. The winner will get pics of the painted car and some lollies. The aim is to come up with a cool style to paint my car. Its already dark red so the door sills and engine bay etc are dark red. I ripped these off google images. Heres one for a start, inspired by an rc car.

Hole In Alternator Brush, Do I Fix It?
D.I.Y. Mik replied to D.I.Y. Mik's topic in General Maintenance
Thanks for tracking part number, its a weird setup with the brushes sort of sealed in a box, dunno if i can dissasemble without breaking it. old plastic makes it brittle too. doesent charge well indicated by bloke who sold battery to me. Have put a temporary volt meter from cig lighter and it shows 13.9 when cold, then gradually drops to 13. Switching all my gadgets on or off makes only about 0.2v-0.3v difference. The light doesent come on, but the manual says 13.9v-14.9, although thats a GTR manual. Shows 2.5 ohms across the commutators, ok right? Anyway ill clean everything, put it back and see how it goes, might spray the outside coil with clear just in case its shorting. I wont file it as it may take ages to become flush again. Drill bit, yes, thankyou, good idea. -
Yeah, dont wire into a constant 12v or the battery might go flat. but.... Stereo or cigarette lighter is good. Youll find the stereo has both constant and acc power, usually yellow and red. If you dont have a multimeter to test for volts, use a 12v lightglobe. If there is some memory thingy in your gauges it might need power constantly, like the stereo needs for the clock and channel memory. My dash has many gadgets

I noticed my car charges badly, and worse when it is warmed up. So i pulled the alternator out for a look, and found a hole in one of the brushes. Normally i wouldnt care but its right where it contacts. Anyone know if this is the problem? Should i grind it back? Or get a new one? I need to get it charging properly again. Ideas anyone?

At the end of the straight, slid off the kink in a cloud of dust heading straight for the tyres. Still going pretty fast there. didnt know if he hit till he drove out of the dust cloud intact.

So the shannons nats was pretty quiet today. did anyone go saturday? Highlight was watching Grumblebee heading for the tyres at speed, that was close. Brown trouser racing. Good for the spectators.
