  1. I thought I recognised that plate. Now I know it's because It's a local one. Welcome to the Skyline world The RB20DET is a pretty fun engine. It certainly can make some power, so you'll have fun modifying it, but I think what most people like about it is its on-off nature. ie a slug off boost, but then you really notice it hit hard as you go on boost. It's a very different feel from the RB25. I'm personally not that into these lightswitch motors, but there's plenty on here that love them.
  2. Have a look at this thread geno8r. I always work my torque out from the power curve. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=49383
  3. Duncan, those ratios you've given are for the 5 speed auto in the GTS25. Sam's are right for the manual.
  4. Well on the 19th, definitely hit the foreshore around lunch time. You'll see so many cars there. It's generally the day when everyone cruises. You'll probably see a fair few skylines - there are a fair few of us up here now.
  5. GT-V was series 2 only and a coupe though, I think.
  6. The 25GT-Xs are just like normal 25GTs and 25GT Turbo sedans, but with extra options like automatic headlights, driver vanity mirrors, xenons standard and stuff like that.
  7. Would you mind telling me how this is not the same as a commodore that's missing 2 doors? I mean, I'm sure there's a few little things here and there that make it different, but they essentially are the same car. The LS1 engine is the same for all the commodores/monaros except for the GTS, which gets the C4B. Making a few tweaks to the computer and the exhaust doesn't make it a different engine. Even so, the Monaro engine is rated as having 245kW and the VZ SS 250kW according to Holden's site (they may not have updated it for the VZ Monaro, but even when they do, it'll only go to 250kW). The full leather interior is an option on Commodores, so it's not particularly special. And the SV8 costs 42K, SS costs 51K, the Monaro is 59K btw.
  8. Imo, anything is better than stock for looks (except maybe the Veilside monstrosity). I have the exact same front bar, and it looks great, but it's a pain in the arse to drive with as it's so low. Most people on the forums don't mind this though, so I could be in the minority here. If you don't mind going up driveways sideways, then get it.
  9. Bloody hell. That's insane. Did that happen here in Newy? I can understand being pissed off that somone fishtailed into my lane, but getting a bat out is going just a bit too far.
  10. afaik, the Neo engine has continuously variable valve timing, whereas the the R33 engine just has stepped adjustment. That would mean the R34 PFC would be the only way to go as the R33 PFC wouldn't know how to handle it. You'd better check it up with a tuner though - I wouldn't want you to go and buy something based on what I said.
  11. Mine would let out this high pitched whistle under boost, as it wasn't staying fully closed. It almost drove me mad
  12. With the atmo bov, you'll probably run rich on gear shifts and mess up your fueling the when you go on or off the throttle for a few milliseconds, but in general they're basically the same. When I tried a pure atmo one, I would often stall as I came to a stop. I wouldn't recommend one to anyone. I run a hybrid bov now that vents to the atmosphere and also plumbs back. I don't get any exhaust "popping" or stalling issues anymore, but still have the bov sound. I probably would just get a plumbback one in the future to be honest. The sound is still good and it doesn't bother me like it does others, but it does lose its appeal after a while.
  13. Ok, using your wheel sizes (since that's probably the best way we've got of working this out), I used an online calculator to get a wheel diameter of 636mm. I have absolutely no idea whether this is accuarate or not, but if it is, then 130km/h should have happened at 4480rpm. Using that, you get 479Nm. That's a lot of torque at the rear wheels. Then again, so is 258rwkw, so it's probably pretty close to what you are making
  14. Can you tell me what rpm your car does at around 130km/h? I can work out an exact value if you tell me that. I don't know your wheel diameter, so can't really calculate it, but I'd say you'd be around 450Nm (using a probably dodgy assumption of 4800rpm for max torque).
  15. That's why I just use the torque curve given on the dyno purely for seeing how your torque curve looks - I ignore the values. If you want actual values (like I think the original poster wants), then you just use the formula I posted earlier.
  16. 651Nm is pretty high. Over double stock - and that's at the wheels. Are you sure that's right? He would have to be making his max of 258kW at 3800rpm to get that much torque, and I'm sure he would have reached peak power much higher up than that. Maybe I've screwed up my calcs or something.
  17. Yeah it's a bit confusing, isn't it . Basically, they're saying you can't directly convert them as they are measurements of different things. The dyno is reading tractive effort/force from memory, so I don't think there'll be an easy way to do a conversion. The way I work out torque from dyno graphs is to get the power and the rpm (you will have to convert this from the km/h reading - compensating for the diff ratio and gears), then use this formula: Torque (Nm) = Power (kW) x 9543 / RPM
  18. OK, I sent him an email. He's a bit hard to get a hold of, but he'll respond soon.
  19. Just because I know I'll get a few PMs about this - I no longer have the FMIC photos that Nick was talking about. I did when he made that post, but I lost them a while back. They were nothing special anyway
  20. Are you talking about using the diesel L series crank? If so, I know a guy through a friend who's done it before. I can try and get you his details if you want.
  21. haha those 4 door R34s certainly put out some power BTW that big 0 at the top was possibly the dodgiest effort I've ever seen.
  22. The series 1 has VVT too. Both R33 s1 and 2 have stepped VVT, whereas the R34 has continuously variable VVT. Maybe that's what you were thinking of, Pan?
  23. There's an RX7 one in English on the net. I've got it somewhere on my harddrive, but by the time I find it, you'll have found it with google.
  24. I haven't got any photos, but damn that's a sweet R34, isn't it
  25. Sorry I had to duck off early guys. It was a good day though. Hopefully next time there'll be no wind or rain.
