Whats the reason for the difference
dojobi replied to wwe_champion's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Just to check that the tacho isn't wrong (as 1000rpm seems like a huge amount more for a 4.3 diff over a 4.1 one), do the engines sound the same when they cruise at that speed? I mean does your one actually sound like it's doing 1000rpm more than his? Since yours is slower, it does sound like your diff isn't some super high ratio one. -
Nice times. Did you do any runs without NOS?
-
Yeah but you've got to maintain them if you do it yourself. It's a pretty good idea this Greenfleet thing. I'd considered paying them a year or so ago, but then forgot the name of the site. Thanks for the link ferni.

I can see people putting in big caps and batteries for their front wheels and sound system in the future

King of the 2.5turbos. Rb25 or 1jz?
dojobi replied to maxim's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Yeah I think the order is a bit like this: RB25............1JZ.....RB26. (this is supposed to be a scale ) The 1JZ is a lot better than most ppl think. I think of it as a cheaper RB26 alternative. -
I should also say that I don't think the series 2 is a totally backward step, it's just that they changed some fairly major things in my eyes for the worse. I may end up getting a series 2 one day, but I'd have to change a fair bit for me to like it. One thing I did notice though is that Nissan got quite cheap towards the end and started deleting certain parts to save the odd yen here and there e.g. no seatbelt guides in the S2, no real middle rear seatbelt, saving the 2c on paint for the engine cover and cigarette lighter writing, no lock on the glove box etc.

OK, I found that site. There's sort of a series 1.5, but there's also sort of a series 2.5, so it looks like Nissan kind of change parts whenever they felt like it. http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/t...sedan/&lp=ja_en On this site, go to - R34 4 door laboratories then - R34 4 door vehicle items of information From there you can see all the differences over the years. It's about sedans as that's what I'm after. You might be able to find a similar site about coupes, but they're not really what I'm interested in, so I never looked for them.

I'd say the owner revved it pretty hard one day and it just stuck there.

I've got a page bookmarked at home that shows every single change between the years on the 34s. Personally I think the series 2 is damn ugly, but some ppl seem to like it. There's no gap for a FMIC on the stock s2 it, which kind of sucks. The interior is also a bit 2-tone as well (e.g. steering wheel is white and black). So to me, the series 2 is a backwards step (although the 363Nm torque is quite nice ) Anyway, I'll post up the site later tonight when I get home from work.

A way around the new import laws?
dojobi replied to Haxorz's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Yeah I've got to say after importing a modified car myself once, that I will ONLY import a stocker in the future. So apart from the costs, this really doesn't affect me too much. -
R34 Compliance Now eligble to import.

Cool. Does this include the sedans. -
Nissan's version of Toyota's VVTL-i

hehe that's the article I was reading that got me interested in this whole thing. It explains it really well. -
Nissan's version of Toyota's VVTL-i
dojobi replied to dojobi's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Thanks for the info guys. I've had a look at the V engines before and they certainly sound good. Does anyone actually have any info on them though apart from just saying that they can control lift as well as timing? ie any specifics? From what I've read the VQxx in the V35 has some different cam stuff going on too, but it hasn't got the V in the name - so I guess it doesn't touch the lift. It might just be more refined implementation of the NEO engines. red17 - Now that's a Pulsar I really like the SR20VET in the X-Trail too. predator - so maybe the NEO engines can actually control the duration rather than just the timing? Now about getting rid of turbos for tricky valve actuation - why not have both? I love turbos for the fat torque curve they give and the easy of modification. I also love an efficient engine and smart valve actuation is a good way of boosting efficiency. Isn't the big problem with the S2000 the fact that it's got no torque? I mean it's a great engine, but just imagine how good it would be if it was boosted. -
Nissan's version of Toyota's VVTL-i
dojobi replied to dojobi's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Yeah, it definitely does. So does the R33 with NVCS. I wonder what the NEO part brings to it though? Just to add to my first post, I just found a page that described what Toyota's implementation does. It does everything I said above, except it doesn't have continously variable timing on the exhaust camshaft (although they have implemented it in testing - it just didn't help too much, so they left it out for cost reasons) and it can't continuously change the duration on either shaft (although it does change when it goes to the high lift cam profile). So essentially I'm not actually after a Nissan equivalent of this. I want better . -
Nissan's version of Toyota's VVTL-i

While I'm here I might as well ask - the RB26DETT has totally locked cams, right? No control of duration, timing or lift at all? -
I've been doing a bit of reading about the different ways all the manufacturers implement their fancy valve actuation gear, and all the articles I've read seem to concentrate on either the Honda or Toyota implementations. Anyway what I want to know is does Nissan have an engine (preferably turbo'd) with the following features on both the inlet and exhaust cams: * Continuously variable valve timing (by that I mean opening and closing point adjustment) - if so, how much can it adjust it? * Control over the duration (most systems I saw only changed when the valves opened, the duration was locked) - if so, how much can it adjust it? * Variable valve lift - I don't think any manufacturers have *continuously* variable implementations here, but if you know of one, I'd like to hear about it. I think Toyota's VVTL-i (not VVT-i) does all the above and Honda's i-VTEC is close, but I just wanted to know if Nissan has an engine with it all. While I'm asking questions, can someone tell me what is the difference between CVTC (Contiuously Variable Timing Control) and NVCS (Nissan Valve-timing Control System)? Both are Nissan systems. Thanks, Michael

I think it's your car saying that it's time for you to do that manual conversion

Can a 1050kg car out brake a 1500+kg r34 gtr?
dojobi replied to Intensevil's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I like R33man's theory. It makes total sense to me, but I'm really not qualified to say if it's right or wrong. Anyway, just to add some more to the topic, I did an advanced driving course with Ian Luff a year or so ago and he said that trucks can generally brake as well as most cars. This is because of the contact area of the tyres to weight ratio. -
Conan, you're thinking of the 260RS. It's the model up from this essentially. Made by Autech I think.

NSW: Advanced Driving Course Recommendations
dojobi replied to lwells's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I did the C3 licence training and I had never even been to a racetrack before. I was absolutely shit at it, but damn I had a good time. I was thinking I'd get my C3 license afterwards too, but at the end of the course he explained the costs. So basically I ended up having a good day and was allowed to then go for my C3 license (even though I didn't want it by the end). -
So is the TB still a 6 cylinder engine? That's damn big if it is.

AWD RB25DET would be damn nice. If you can afford it, that'd be the option I'd take. I just feel the RB25DET has more potential.
