Aftermarket BOV, performance or wank factor
archie01 replied to hypntk's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Steve Great find re the link to the autospeed article. It's funny b/c i had this conversation with Simon back in 1998 when i use to take my VLt in and i agreed with his reasoning back then. Good to see 4 years later (when the article was written) has hasn't changed his opinion. -
Aftermarket BOV, performance or wank factor

Steve, yes i would assume so too. I guess the first few years after 1989 would of perhaps been 'transitional' years with some models?? -

Hehehe point taken Let's make that pre 1988 then....it was just a rough guestimate of when stricter emission standards became operative. -
Aftermarket BOV, performance or wank factor

Interesting discussion fellas. It does get quite complicated though when comparing the engine set ups in race cars and trying to draw conclusions for engine set ups in street cars. From a street car perspective, AFAIK the purpose of the recirculating BOV put in by vehicle manufacturers of MAF equipped engines is one of emissions rather than wanting to extend the life of the turbo. As emission standards became more strict in the 90's (and have continued to do so since), vehicle manufacturers were required to find ways to adhere to them. This is why many MAF equipped turbo cars that were made pre 1990's didn't have BOV's fitted (VL turbo's and i think Pulsar ET and EXA too but i think they used a vane air flow meter anyway) How emission were being affected by MAF equipped vehicles that didn't have recirculating BOV's fitted was simply when the throttle was shut a small amount of compressed air would make its way out the front of the turbo inlet, past the air flow meter and out into the air box. This is the sound we hear when we get rid of the standard air box and fit an exposed pod instead. Since the air flow meter was 'registering' this amount of air that was exiting, it would also give the corresponding signal to the ECU (as if this air was entering) thereby causing fuel to be injected and a richer mixture to eventuate for that small period of time. So back to the original question and limiting it to MAF equipped street cars only, IMO as long as the aftermarket BOV is of the recirculating type and can pass the same volume of air (or more) than the standard one then i see no reason why it shouldn't be used. I fail to see how it would improve performance however. -
I have the Greddy one on mine. No issue with it leaking and I don't get that 'psht' sound that you usually get from external venting bov's which i like.

Anth Congrats to you and the missus

Yep, had an awesome time at Winton and i won't be forgetting that experience in a hurry. Powering through corners with the wheels screeching hoping that they won't let go and then finally applying more throtle to get the fronts engaging and get the car pointing straight and shooting off like a slingshot was like a drug, so addictive Fun came to end though when the engine decided it didn't like this anymore, but oh well, sh1t happens. Will have to sit it out for a while to decide what i want to do and when i want to do it by. Big thanks to Troy for helping me get set up (as i was running late) and be able to get on the track for the first session, not to mention for borrowing a few tools too And big thanks to all for helping push the car onto the trailer Jack Hehehe yeah winton took this rb26 scalp too...lets hope there isn't gonna be anymore Scotsman and Snowy great battle and thanks for all your advice during the day. Certainly helped me improve my lap times a lot quicker than what i otherwise would of. Nice to have met everyone but sorry i didn't get much of a chance to chat. Will have to make up for it at the next track day - minus car of course

So did i...i went on a diet this week

Twilight Club Sprint @ Calder Park - Feb. 5th
archie01 replied to Downforce's topic in Archived Events
Hehehe I'm not expecting big things from my car. I'll definitely be running less power on the track than i ususally run and hope that nothing goes 'bang!' Besides i still got stock brakes (32 gtr) which we all know are a complete joke!! So i'm hoping i can get a few hard laps in before my brakes fade I'm very interested to see just how much quicker a similarly equipped (ie running the same tyres as me, hard suspension, similar power etc) newer model GTR is around Calder. This would highlight things like how much of a role better brakes and the superior chasis set up in the newer models play in lap time improvement (not to mention driver skill plays a big role there too ) Should be fun ps Snowy those wolf 3d with sequential injector firing can work miracles!! -

Fs 18" Impul Hoshino Rims For Gtr
archie01 replied to archie01's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
They came with the car. Not sure of the offset might have to take one off and measure it. Yes, they will fit up to a R32 GTR with the supplied spacers perfectly. -
Leewah If i knew it was going to get you THIS upset I would have only done a 360 and not a 540 degree spin Seriously though, I hope this guy learns from his mistake and is appreciative that it wasn't any worse.

awww shucks *blushes*. Thanks Snowy, ur blue meanie ain't that bad either!! I'm good for the 26th if you would like another silver 32 gtr in the shot. Please let me know PS Enjoy and have a safe trip Marcus cheers

Couldn't agree more! If a car already comes from factory with a FMIC and you happen to have an after market one instead (which may or may not be bigger...but most likely is bigger) how the f*ck does this affect emissions in a negative way?? If they argue that the bigger cooler is simply changing the factory set emissions, does this mean that aftermarket pods DON'T because they are allowed???? Hypocrisy at its best! Is this like saying u are allowed to be a little bit over 0.05, but not a lot??!! Has anyone cared to question the epa from which piece of legislation / regulation / guideline they are quoting this rule of one induction mod from?? Sorry to hijack the thread but this rule is illogical and frustrates me big time!

GTTR34 I saw ur car today at southbank - very nice car i must Luuuvd the gold brembo's and oh now that u mention it i didn't get to touch ur bonnet...can i touch it next time i see you?? The two 32 R's looked great too
-
Marcus Could u please put me down for one of those group buys? Does it come with an EPA inspection as well? If not then i might have to reconsider..

Good to hear you came across a nice cop. My thoughts are why did he pull you over since u were being sensible and all? Is it simply the recent "lets pull over imports / round tail light cars and give them a once over" rule?? Very frustrating knowing that a skyline owner has a much greater chance than any other car of being pulled over for a random check for no particularly reason at all I too know all about this having been pulled over while driving home in peak hour traffic for purposes of going over the car. Didn't get a defect or anyhting and the officer was an ok bloke but it begs the question why was i targetted for no apparent reason and for how long will this continue?? Anyway it's great that u don't have to get a rwc and so u won't be incovenienced to a great extent

Yes that's his name Megalo! Sure is a small world I doubt he'll remember me though as it's been so long....but if u do get a chance to talk to him this might help him remember me: Tell him i'm the guy he came upto once at cyberdrome (actually it's next door to Heaven, cyberdrome did not become Heaven ...sorry my bad) and offered me money for my 12" of Playing with Knives by Bizarre Inc and he stuck the note on his forehead (can't remember if he spat on the note to make it stick or if it was a hot night and it stuck to his slightly sweaty forehead!!) but i just couldn't bring myself to part with it even though it was a decent offer. If that doesn't remind him nothing will

I know, i need to get off my as5 and make a mixed CD with all the classics. I've been meaning to do this for a while but ever since getting my car (oh yeah, i forgot, i was on this forum for a reason....i got a 32 GTR. There, now that's outta the way back to music ) i lost interest in visiting my decks I did however make a mixed CD of my choice vocal house tunes i've purchased over the last 6 months so happy to provide a copy to anyone who is keen for that style of music. Tracks include, Back Together - Ron Carrol, Amazing - George Michael, Eternal Lover - Bibi, Young and Lonely - P Phunk, Boogie tonight - Tweet, You will - Pique and Nique etc Not sure. Got the 12" in front of me and it definitely says Rollo Goes Mystic... on the Cheeky Label Ah yes, Laluna, a track i got good milege out of Bar 20? I use to know a guy who worked there as a dj during the early to mid 90's but his name eludes me. He had a Macedonian background and drove a holden ute i think...hate it when this happens. I played down the road at a place called cyberdrome back then (which became Heaven and now something else) and he come in once or twice but i had known him from the record stores we use to shop at prior to this.... m'eh my memory is getting worse and worse with age

RTFGTR Ah yes Phils's Friday tapes. He's always luv to throw in new tracks that he just got hold of b/c he knew many other dj's were listening I remember asking him about a track he played and he's like "it's on acetate" ie hasn't been pressed on vinyl yet and he's got a test pressing however it's like metal (aluminium??) even tho it looks exactly like a a vinyl. Snowy i wouldn't mind having a spin if that's ok with ur mates. I know how it can be when people come upto ya when ur playing and they're like i'm a dj too can i have a go? So yeah if an opportunity arises then sweet otherwise happy to kick back with a choice beverage and enjoy the choons Roy that rollo goes mystic track is actually called 'love love love - here i come' I can't believe i forgot to include it in my earlier post as i absolutely luv that track. Others I enjoyed playing now that i'm flicking thru the vinyls again are: Funkatarium 96 - NBG vs Sharp All i do - Roy Davis Jnr Sweetest day of May - Joe T vanelli project The lover that u are - Pulse I believe - Celvin Rotane Keep on Jumping - Todd Terry (rhythm masters mix) Make the world go round - Sandy B Give me luv - alcatraz U Girls - Nush U sexy dancer - the rockford files So in luv with u - Duke The sound of E - Ultrashock

I'm sure Snowy would have organised all that stuff anyway, besides i'm looking forward to going and having a few drinks instead of having to work on the decks all night!! If ever i organise a 'classics' night anywhere i'll be sure to let u fellas know. There's a whole heap of friends i hang out with who absolutely love this sort of stuff. One of these guys had his 30th and it was awesome. Listening to a tune of that era on a high quality sound system (loud of course) was like takind you back to that time of when and where u first heard it...it's crazy. nizmoR34 Yeah got all those tracks too, they rocked! Of those, crescendo rocked when it kicked in after the long break

Andrew Putting a topic like this that's so close to my heart I just had to respond Not interested in getting into a discussion over which era of music was "better" than another, rather just wanted to relay my experiences on this front. Having dj'd for over 13 years (mostly mobile dj gigs tho) i too have a huuuuge soft spot for the early 90's era of dance/house music. The last time i did a 'classics' gig (7 months ago) i played many of my fav 90's tracks and everyone there was at least 25 yrs of age and it just took them back to the days of their youth and they loved it. Tracks i played: 1. God save the queer - Klatsch 2. Moods - Desert 3. Variations of a theme - Moonchild 4. Until we meet again - Bladerunner (Sasha Mix) 5. Southside - Dave Clarke 6. In the dark we live - Afrohead 7. Red 2 - Dave Clarke 8. Spank - Subsonic 808 9. Peppermint Lounge - Lemon Project 10. The Search - Trancesetters 11. LSD - HMC 12. Environmentality - Microglobe 13. Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar Other 'classic' house i enjoy dropping: Passion - Gat Decor Punchunella - San Transisco Zulu Nation - House Pimps I want you - Itchy and Scratchy Reach - Lil Mi Yin Yang Your Lving Arms - Billie Ray Martin Shine on - Degrees in Motion Kinetic - The Golden Girls Playing with Knives -Bizarre Inc Been getting more into more mellowy vocal house tunes of late (getting too old for this sh1t!!!). Tracks like: Can't help myself - Penis remix feat Kai martin Surrender ur love - Jask feat Jocie (Soulfuric label ...great label) For me - The Beard freat phillpa hanna (kaskade remix) Can't Stop - Reep People I could go on all night as i flick thru my vinyl collection PS RTF GTR Phil K, Jason and his brother Simon Digby are all good friends of mine. In the early 90's I use to frequent DMC record store mostly every Tue (or whenever vinyl shipment come in) where Phil K would work and then I'd also go to Rhythm and Soul down the road like it was going out of fashion!! The money i could of spent on my car instead of on vinyl!!! But i wouldn't change it for anything. I remember Gab Oliver, Andy Van and many other talented lcoal dj's all use to do the same rounds on those days and we'd all know and acknowledge each other with a "hi how ya doing" I felt really important back then Another local 90's rave scene DJ that i thought was great was Voitech. Not sure where he's gotten to these days but he'd go off at Every picture tells a story parties. Anyway that's enough from me.....for now
