  1. Hmmm, good point about the piping tom! I am running pods, HKS ones to be precise. I only noticed this today on my long drive, Drove for about an hour a half happened pretty early on , maybe about 30-40 minutes into the drive. (Nice open long straight country roads). Never has happened prior, then again never really had a nice long open country road to drive on before. On the way back it was fine, till the last 15-20 minutes of the drive. So it was ok for an hour. During that time it happened while i was in 5th on boost, then i just saw the gauge drop and felt the loss of power. On the note of black smoke - Yes, it normally blows a bit of strange looking smoke (kinda blackish) if i have been babying it then decide to go WOT. I figured this was normal though. The idle doesn't seem rough, cold or hot. Idles at 1,000rpm when warm, I also check my oil often and it hasn't used a drop. Also on stock ECU, hasn't been tuned. Has HKS Pods, Ganador exhaust, hiflow car. Stock everything else.
  2. Hey all, I had to go on a bit of a long drive today and when driving for a bit over an hour, my GTR started to loose boost. I only have the stock gauge (restrictor out) and it normally goes above the 7 on WOT (wide open throttle). After driving for a bit over an hour and while accelerating i felt it just die down, and now the gauge would not go above the upper middle marker (the bit between 0 and 7). Sounds like a very similar/same problem to this bloke here; http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/102476-r32-gtr-loss-of-boost/ But alas, no resolution on that thread. Anybody know whats going on? I am leaning towards the stock rubber piping gets hot and starts to restrict airflow to the motor, the ecu goes wtf is going on and puts me in "safe/retard" mode, preventing me from boosting 100%. Least thats one of my theories...
  3. So i take it i need these, http://www.kudosmoto...dett-p-835.html + some adjustable actuators Random thought; Will the stock gearbox/diff's be able to take the extra power?
  4. Cheers XKLABA! Been doing some quick reading on the above advice, and i have a few question's (lol..) 1. The bosh fuel pump, isn't a straight swap is it? What kind of modifying is involved to put it in? 2. Nismo vs Z32 AFM's. they are the same unit arn't they? Just physically different? I already have HKS Pods on my car, so does it mean they will go straight on? (The Z32's, they are heaps cheaper)
  5. Thanks for the reply! And your not wrong about it being expensive What is the difference between the -9 and -7? Is one more restricting then the other? I take it the -9 is the better turbo? If (one day) i decided to want more then 350kw's, would the turbo's be my limiting factor? I just feel that if i spend about 3k or what ever they are worth now, and want more. I will only have to spend it all over again, rather do it once and just leave it be. Even if the initial cost is reasonably higher in the beginning.
  6. At the moment, I am thinking a long term goal of around 300-350rwkw. But in all honesty, just trying to get the best bang for buck mods for my car at this stage, because it is my daily ride for the moment. Performance for the Dollar is what i am looking for. Along with reliability, and hey if fuel economy can be looked into fantastic...otherwise I didn't really buy this car to save on juice. I will have to look into some local source's and see what i can find! Been keeping my eye on the for sale section in the forum's but ill be honest. I am not really sure what i am looking for other then a good deal. I personally have not put any mods on the car, but the mods that have come with the car from memory are; Ganador Exhaust - Looks like a 3/3.5 inch. HiFlow Cat HKPS Pods Still using AFM's - Stock Stock Injectors, Fuel Pump/Rail Other then that, I believe everything is still original. Also this will sound stupid but - wtf does -7, -9 mean? I am confused when people state these figures. Is it to do with turbo lag? or size of them? (initial thoughts..) Well thats a big let down, was hoping i could just start tinkering with it over my holiday's and with a bitta help from the old man we could swap them out. We are fairly mechanical minded. Although new to turbo cars. Clutch has not been replaced, I am pretty sure my thrust bearing is out too (get that annoying whine when clutch is out and in neutral). I figured once the clutch gets worse ill change it, but if i am ordering parts/planning mods I will have a spare to go in as i have read they get chewed up fairly quick with extra power.
  7. How much for the Gear strick plastic surround? Interested if you still got it.
  8. Ha ha, Well in my defense, the temp's havn't gotten to where i like them, I think i am just over pedantic about my car. I wait till coolant/water temps are at normal and the oil is at least 70degree's (going by the stock gauges in the gtr) before even hitting boost. I appreciate all the comments fellas and have come to the decision its a gamble regardless it is in or out. More so if its out, but driving style has alot to do with it. I took it out last night and went on my normal commute this morning no problems (XKLABA - Don't worry i actually hit boost...and man the extra boost is nice!), I guess if the worst happens. Stay on the throttle to keep bits of shit from going into my engine. In the mean time with holiday's coming up, I want to look at replacing the Turbo's, adding a electronic boost controller and getting a tune. Looks like http://www.nengun.com is the place to buy everything, although I didn't think turbo kits were so pricey. Is APEXi Power FC's still the way to go for a tune? Or should I be looking at something else?
  9. Hmmm... So i guess, i can take the restrictor out, but just don't hammer it all the time, it seems you guys are saying they can still blow even on the stock boost. May as well have some fun with them before the inevitable happens. It is my daily, so i think it would be driven fairly nanna compared to most, I didn't even hit boost on my way home today ...! I'm still deciding what turbo setup i want to go to, whether it be just a rebuilt kit for the stockies or something complete.
  10. Dam...Was afraid somebody would say don't do it on stock turbo's
  11. Hey everyone, I had been doing some reading about the little restrictor in the boost solonoids yellow hose, So i decided to see if mine was in there. And yep it sure was. So i removed it and took my car for a drive, and wow what a difference...!! The car ran so much cleaner, smoother, boost came on earlier and harder. Overall just had more power. But...being a stock r33 gtr is it ok to run with the restrictor out on stock turbo's? or will they go kaboom... I put the restrictor back in, because i felt i should play it safe. Is it safe for me to run my car with this little olive lookin bugger out of the hose? Or should i keep it in? I don't have any aftermarket boost gauges so i am not sure if its running at a safe level or not. But isn't that what the solenoid is for? To keep it safe?
  12. Kind of on topic. My engine fan (assume you guys are talking about the big ass one in front of the motor, not the little thermo on the rad) has a few hairline crack's in it. Where is the best place to get a replacement?
  13. I have tried to do as much research as possible...started before i even bought the car. I think i have learnt alot, but still HEAPS more to learn, as you can tell by my noob questions ha ha. 8-10k is too much to put into it right now. Thinking 5k at the moment..even still thats a bit much. Looking for best bang for buck mods, I thought slapping on some turbo's with the nessasry support mods would be the best bang for buck. While keeping it a reliable daily. Perhaps i was wrong and should just get a tune and keep it all stock :\
  14. No problem! Will check the exhaust. From memory its a Ganador exhaust. I take it its best just to talk to my tuner (which i don't have one yet..) and just get it done all through them? As there are a few used Power Fc's going on the forum's. I need to decide on what tuner to go to. I thought once you replace turbo's you should swap out injectors, fuel pump and what ever else? I didn't know i could just take out the turbo's and still get decent gains... Main reason i am wanting to change out the turbo's is due to hearing the stock turbo's go boom after the 100,000km mark. Being my car has a Vielside speedo, Who knows how many genuine km's are on it, it says it is on 103,xxx. Considering i will have about a week and a bit off work, I was planning on installing everything myself. Installing the turbo's myself shouldn't be too difficult as long as they are just straight swaps correct? If i can get 300rwkw without opening up the engine and just adding turbo's, I will be stoked! Thats still with all stock AFM's, fuel pump and injectors??
  15. Honestly just trying to get most bang for Buck while keeping the motor unopened. Thinking 5k budget for starters. Stock airbox wasn't included with the car exhaust I got no good?
  16. Cheers moodles Couple more question's though; I believe I am still running stock coil packs, should i be looking at swapping them over? Where is the best place to order all this stuff from? What is the difference between using MAP vs AFM's? Is there any advantages over one or the other? Is it possible to achieve 350kw, while still being a decent daily? ie good on fuel...(I am a optimist)
  17. I have had my R33 GTR for about three month's, now i am looking at putting some mods into it. But i am not sure where to start? It's my daily drive at the moment, and it essentially stock. It has some Pods and a after market ganador exhaust. In a few week's i will be on holiday's and during that time off. I want to be working on my car. But honestly, I am a bit overwhelemd with all the option's on what to do! Can somebody just give me a list of things that I will need to get some respectable figures out of my GTR? After doing as much research as i can, I have come to the conclusion that i need.... Turbo's - What ones do I buy? Single or stick with twins? Fuel Pump - What one do i get? how many L? Injectors - Again no idea? Intercooler - Can i get something that just bolts into the stock mounts? Recommendation's? Piping - Is it nessasry? Thoughts? Apexi PowerFC - I heard alot of people still use these. Are there any alternative's? Anything better? Anything better value for money? Boost Controller - Needed? Is there anything I am missing? I plan on installing all the mods myself. Is there anything I should be aware of?
  18. Still got Power FC? Or did it never come back from eBay land?
  19. Good tip to remove stubborn hoses is spray them with some WD40, wait a couple of minutes and they slip right off
  20. Definatley looked on eBay, I do need the outer tie rod ends. the ones being sold for the R33 GTR, are not compatible. More so of a scam/false advertising. Check out the pics in both the R33 "4WD" and RWD ones, pics are of the same item. They are the exact same ones i got from Bursons. Probably sweet for a R33 GTS-T, but the R33 GTR part is different. Its quite bigger physically. Its a bit fatter and the thread at the top is longer. I have done a search on a forums for the ones sold on eBay, found a user stating they don't fit. He could have gotten his money back, but as usual you have to pay return shipping. Probably voiding any effort of a refund. Ended up just ordered some in over the phone from my local nissan dealership. $111 for one Not sure if ill do the other one at the moment, as it has no play....
  21. Checked out the ones i got from Bursons. No go, they are heaps smaller then the ones i have on there. Didn't even bother to fully open them up as they won't fit. Ill try pedders, otherwise I think i will just go genuine from Nissan for $100 each
  22. How much where they from pedders? I just picked up the ones from bursons. They are road safe brand and say they suit R32,300zx. Hopefully they fit! $70 for two
  23. Called them up, said they are marked for the R33 GTs-T, and in the comments says "Will not fit R33 GTR"...dammit lol. I might go and grab them anyway as i am in the area. If they fit, they fit. Otherwise can return. $35 like you said. Have you used those ones on a R33 GTR before xalmon?
  24. Hey everyone, I am after some Tie Rod Ends for my R33 GTR. The genuine nissan ones are around $100 each, are there cheaper after market alternative's available? Also is it best practice to just replace the worn out one, or replace both left and right?
