  1. When you say did you hook them up in Phase, I am not sure what you are referring too? So you are recommending me to run with the original factory speaker wires, splice at the rear of the head unit then run down to the boot? This might sound silly, but can you still get decent bass from coaxial speakers? Can you recommend me some models? I am sure if type r splits are classified as mid range, anything that is higher end coaxial's would sound better.
  2. Hey everyone, I recently installed a Pioneer headunit, but i am wanting more out of my current audio setup. I believe the speakers i currently have are just stock, the reason i believe they are stock is because, In my opinion, they are terrible. They lack bass, clarity and volume (though im sure running them just off the headunit is not going to help) Sure they go loud, but distort at very low volume levels. (Note i always have my equilizers settings "flat" with none of the headunit's "enhancement" features turned on, prefer to hear the track the way it was made) So here comes my questions. In short: 1. What coaxial's would give me better/equivilent sound to alpine type r component's? 2. Should i bother amping just speakers? Will i get some decent bass, volume and clarity from new speakers just running from the head unit? 3. Should i buy a sub or 6x9's for bass? 4. is there any preference on which side to run power leads/rca's? I assume speaker wires are OK to run along side RCA's, but the "remote" wire from the headunit should not be run along side them? I will say this, replacing my speakers is a must. A sub, ehhhh i am totally not sold on putting one in yet. Now I really don't want component speakers, I don't want to mold a custom A pillar mount for them, or have them visiable on the dash/console somewhere ( i think it looks pox), or cut into my door trims (I like to keep things looking factory, pedantic i know). In my previous ride, i had some Alpine Type R components. Will i be able to get similar sound (pref better!) out of a set of good quality coaxial speakers? If so can anybody recommend me some? the bloke down at JB reckens JL audio coaxial's are the go. Reason being i am not sold on a sub is i have heard some people use "bassy" 6x9's in the rear to get some bass. I am sure its not sub like quality, but would this be a proper alternative? or are the people suggesting 6x9's are decent just crazy? Should i bother amping my new speakers? Or will be headunit be powerful enough to handle them? If I choose to go down the amp path, i have heard some people use the existing factory speaker wiring, are there any negatives about using the factory speaker wire while installing a amp? I would only consider this option, if i did not have to strip everything out of the car (ie front and rear seats). Also to confirm, my battery is in the boot (Believe this is the case for all GTR's), is there any preference on which side to run power leads/rca's? I assume speaker wires are OK to run along side RCA's, but the "remote" wire from the headunit should not be run along side them? Any advice, input would be much appreciated before i go splashing cash on a audio gear
  3. Hmm...I will agree it does look major pox. But half way up it doesn't look TOO bad. So i think i will just leave it as it is for now, or until i can be bothered taking my dash off to cut the wire. Random question though. How did you guys run the remote wire back to the boot for your amps? Take it you did it seperately from your RCA's? Looking at amping my speakers at some point (Still got the stockies, as i doubt replacing them while still powered from a headunit is going to make much difference?)
  4. Sorry to bump up such a old thread, But i just recently installed a Pioneer headunit, and it had no dedicated antenna wire. It has a blue/white wire which is "Connect to system control terminal of the power amp or auto antenna relay control terminal. 300mA 12v DC). So i plugged this i connected this wire to my antenna. Needless to say, it comes up every time i switch on the head unit. I noticed i have a switch already down underneath the steering to lower and raise the antenna, is it possible to "modify" this switch to bring my antenna back all the way down? As it does indeed look absolutely pox. Or wire up another switch for the antenna all together.
  5. Still for sale?
  6. I am confident to do it, but im a bit of a "original condition" nut. Don't really want to be drilling holes or cutting apart my door trim's. I did the commodore install myself, which was the response amp, a 4 chan, sub and the type r's, along with the head unit installation. Any recommendation's on where to buy a headunit?
  7. No need for tv, although would be nice, but i can imagine the hassles of putting in another antenna. Do you need another antenna if you want digital radio? I just don't want to be really cutting into the car just to fit some splits/crossovers, although today i just noticed how bad the stock speakers are..bleh.
  8. I still do have the splits, took them out of the car before it got written off (stupid hail storm!). It just looks like a Pain to do those custom tweeter mounts, was looking for something a bit more simple, quick and easy. But still don't want a pox looking setup! Do most people mount the crossovers in the doors or should i just put them in the boot? Does it matter how far they are from the speakers? I would personally love to use my old splits, as they are still working great, i am just worried about cutting into things and getting them mounted! Any recommendation's on a head unit? Thoughts on digital radio? :\ For a head unit, I already know what i want but not sure which unit to pick or if I should buy from my local JB or look else where (online, oversea's ect) 3 Pre outs USB Bluetooth AUX ^ bare minimum features I would want out of my head unit.
  9. Hey everyone, Just got my R33 GTR, and i am looking at upgrading the stock speakers and headunit! (headunit isn't stock, but its from japan so can't even pickup any aussie station's!) In my previous car (VT commodore), I had Alpine Type R splits up front, these are splits (component speakers). I went with splits for the commy because it was easy to install, they had factory mounts for them. I don't think the skyline has factory tweet mounts/location's, So to keep things simple, i was tempted to buy a set of coaxial speakers, thoughts? Looking at the Polk Audio DB651, but if money can buy better i am up for it. They are going to be running off a 2Chan response, it does 150wrms to each channel.
  10. So who is the best for cars atm then?
  11. Hey everyone, I am hopefully picking up my R33 GTR this weekend! I would like to be prepared to do a basic service, Meaning i would like to do Engine oil and Filter I think its probably a good idea to do Diff's, Gearbox as well...thoughts? And probably a coolant flush too. anything else I should be looking at doing when i pick it up? I assume the majority if people put in Motul 8100 in the GTR's, thats what i am planning to do, any idea where to buy the stuff local? I will also need some jack stands, possibly a low profile jack? or at least some way to get my normal jack underneath it, any recommendation's on those would be appreciated too! What particular oils do you guys put in the Diff's and Gear box's? The GTR has two diff's right, so i assume 2x the amount of oil needed? I am still learning everything about the car and trying to do as much reading as i can, I am sure this has probably been answered before, but please believe me i have searched and failed!
  12. Thats the vibe i am getting from the quick search i did, although nothing really in concrete on the forum. I was quoted $340 for a pre purchase inspection. Bit steep compared to chasers charging $120 + $40 for a leak down. He said his pre purchase would tell me if it has been in a accident, compression test, leak down test, physical inspection, also the use of some camera that will give him a idea on how the engine is inside? (never heard of that before). Said he would need it for a whole day too. Man looking for a skyline that is well priced and in decent condition for the price is very hard...Then getting them RWC sounds like something only superman could achieve, with all the pods and exhausts that come standard on GTR's...maybe i should just look for another car all together! The out come looks bleak fellas..
  13. Preferably someone who can do a pre purchase inspection, then do a RWC assuming its all good..
  14. Wow good buy....! You did well, with that sort of km's on it, it should be pretty much a brand new bike! Congrats. If your in northern suburbs, hit me up for a ride! Should organise a SKAU moto ride...
  15. Anybody used "Nismo Performance Center" down in Thomastown?
  16. Has anybody had any experience with chasers down in mitcham?
  17. According to Merli, Any plate that is engraved and NOT printed on, is a fake. http://www.skylinesa...uld-i-look-for/ I have done some searching and cannot find anywhere else that stipulates such a claim. But i do personally find it odd, that some are printed on. And others are engraved on. they look almost physically identical, but when you rub your fingers over them, you can feel the difference.
  18. After a bit of searching, I can't find any current information about who to take a car to if i wanted to get it pre purchased inspected. Has anybody done one recently? If so how was it? How much? And what was the car you got inspected? I personally am i looking at R33 GTR's.
  19. Yeah fair point, though i do have to say its nice to have a heads up on what to look for. I took most of that with a grain of salt when i was looking for my bikes, but none the less. I still go over them with a fine tooth comb. I am really anal about my bikes/cars. Its probably unhealthy/not normal to be so anal... Agreed. I recken if your serious about riding, don't get a 250. Now that you have LAM's, look for something bigger if budget permits. Or something single cylinder. I was once like you...wanted something full fairing. I mean by all means do it, but at least LOOK at some naked bikes. Just to comparassion, after a while. They really grew on me. My next road bike will be a Triumph Street Triple. Tick's all the right box's (for me) in terms of a road bike. Don't think i would ever sell my motard though...if i did, it would be only to get another one Dirt bike riding on the road, hell yes!
  20. Been looking at some R33 Skylines, all of the ones i have inspect bar one, have a PRINTED Plate (smooth). One of the R33 GTR's I looked at had a engraved VIN plate. Does this automatically 100% mean its a fake? I have searched around and people have reported having engraved VIN plates, and not having any problem's or saying there are is spot on. So i am confused, is there any official news about this from Nissan? I downloaded the NFAST program today and checked it out, the paint code matched up. It is BN6 (Deep Marine Blue), but the engine bay is black? Is that normal? Its a 1996 R33 GTR. Thoughts on the engraving plate issue would be great as I got no idea. Note: When i say VIN plate, i mean the Blue one in Japanese.
  21. I found a R33 GTR, but the plate was engraved. Like brail. It could be felt, Others i have looked at were printed on as stated. So does having a engraved plate mean its 100% fake? The details on the plate match the car color...The only thing that i found a bit strange, is the color of the engine bay is Black. But the exterior is BN6 (Deep marine blue). Should I consider this GTR or pass due to the engraved plate?
  22. Also this one as well...Have reason to believe it might be stolen/dodgy. BCNR33 022748
  23. BCNR33 008495 Thanks in advance!
  24. Sorry to bump a old thread, but the pic's are down in the original post
