Ok....Started up the GTR with BRAND NEW -7 turbo's, let it idle for a bit while i was putting in my fresh coolant (you know the drill) and the same shitty smoke was there. No where near as bad as the video posted up, but still noticeable. Idea's?
-
Sweet. Just wanted to make sure I won't do any damage to any components by charging it through their. (Stereo, ECU ect)
-
GTR has not been started for about 1-2 weeks, Battery doesn't have enough juice to start her up. Am i able to charge the battery through the terminal's in the engine bay? Do i have to disconnect anything or is it better to just go old school and wack the battery charger straight onto the battery?
-
So you fitted a turbo that had been sitting in your garage for the past year. Didn't connect water lines, started the car, white smoke came out? I dunno, but i recken maybe cause the turbo sat for X amount of time the seals dried up and are now failing? Take it to get rebuilt or shell out for a newie!

Installing -7's, Front Turbo Oil Return Line Won't Fit?
Booki replied to Booki's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Stock Radiator, So just grab some premix coolants? Is that what you meant? I honestly have no idea what coolant was used prior, this will be my first coolant change in my GTR. Will have to have a good look underneath and see if i can get the brace back on. -

Sweet ground strap should be no problem to hook back on with everything back on, (im hoping). does anyone actually know what its for/does? Hmmm, would you say its important to strip everything out of the way for those braces? Ill have another sticky tomorrow to see if i can get it on. What would you do in my situation scotty? Also - Draining the engine oil and gonna put some coolant in and start it up for the first time !! Anybody recommend a particular type of coolant? Or just throw in what ever? -
Installing -7's, Front Turbo Oil Return Line Won't Fit?
Booki replied to Booki's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Just ended up replacing the bolt on the turbo with one with a smaller head so it gave me clearance for the pipe. Just walked into Rotomaster and somerton, the fella their smoothed out the base of the pipe and provided me some gaskets and the bolt for free! Champion!! But now ive almost got it all back together, But wondering what the hell is this ground for? Clip then it goes to a ring connector, sorry for the shitty pic. Any idea's? Looks like a ground for something :\ Also, do people bother putting on the turbo support/braces back on? It looked like such a C*&T to fit so i didn't bother wacking it back on. The turbo's are rock solid and held firmly in place from the Dump/frontpipe and the exhaust manifolds. I doubt the turbo support brace really did anything. -

It's a tough little piece of pipe. If i did that, not sure if i would damage the seal from the base to the pipe, or if it would snap :\ Might just buy one from GCG/eBay, pending if i can get one local or not. Tunes booked in on the 5th of November, so gotta get this puppy back together asap. -

I think drilling out the wholes would effect the seal, Had a attempt and bending it with a blow torch, wouldn't budge. ended up warping it a bit... So you got those eBay links handy..? -
In the process of changing over my turbo's, got the rear one all hooked up and ready to go. Starting putting together the front turbo, but the oil hose/line doesn't sit nicely and you can't get the hose on that goes to the block. Anybody else had trouble with this? See Pic to help with my crap ass description. Hooks up to the bottom of the turbo, then a rubber hose goes to the engine (sump to drain back the oil)

So too pretty much sum it up.... I dont have to change anything to compliment my turbo's? Aftermarket Dumps, Exhaust manifolds, will do nothing vs the stock parts? Where did you get your car tuned Grant? -

Worth replacing O2 sensors? 100k service has already been done by previous owner. Looking to chase 300rwkw+ with the -7's, so would like to do all supporting mods now as its easier. -
Hey all, Doing a turbo swap myself, and now that my stocky turbo's are out of the engine bay and on the bench, and the tuner being booked out for a few weeks. Now is a good time to start replacing things that are not easily accessible, ie dumps! So what should i be replacing, and by replacing can i get some part numbers or brands i should be looking for? Currently replacing my stock turbo's with Garrett -7's, Got a Ganador Exhaust with HKS Pods. Otherwise everything else is stock. Should i replace dumps, exhaust manifolds, intercooler, piping? If so what ones and where? some pics to keep things interesting
-
Starting to replace my turbo's, and noticed the rear one was seeping oil. Intercooler also had some oil in it too. So far have all the piping off, turbo heat sheilds off, undone the front pipe bolts to the dumps. It's coming along alright so far, only because the old man is helping out (by helping out i mean doing 90% of it). Hopefully we don't get stuck, the job itself doesn't seem hard. Its just all the variables (rusted nuts/bolts, tight space) that make it difficult. Dam RB26

Update: checked coolant. Its used some, although it is still clean of what i can see of it. Checked oil cap, and all looks good from that view, as well dipstick oil. Color looks normal. So i don't think its a head gasket (least im hoping not) Stock turbos

Ok, Started it up to go drop it at home. No smoke...Revved it a little, no smoke. Wasn't even worth taking a video. Even on the drive home, nothing came out. Decided to play it safe, and drop the car off at home. Gave it a bit of a rev when i got in the garage and a small puff came out, but then nothing after wards. Beats me... It was BAD this morning. Now, nothing. Regardless using the bike till i figure out wtf is going on. and Hado - Coolant levels normal, still green.
-
I thought it was condensation too, But I dunno. It seemed a little "blue" and heavy for condensation. I will take another vid when I move to my next job site. Hado - I checked my coolant last night, looked normal green color. Will check it before i drive off again.
-
Hey all, This started happening yesterday morning, but was hard to diagnose due to lots of condensation (was a bit chilly yesterday morning). Basically what happened, is when i would drive off, then stop, smoke would come out. And when i accelerate then back off. Smoke would come out again. Doesn't look like it comes out while actually accelerating, only in between. (if that makes sense?) After work, i got the old man to follow me around, he said only a small puff came out when i left my house then nothing but a bit of blackish/grey smoke under boost (normal i believe with a stock ECU). Did a few tests, light load - high/low revs, 4th under load up hill and WOT. small cloud of smoke under boost. Werid... Anyway, while i was driving today i noticed quite a alarming rate of smoke coming from my exhaust, i pulled in and took this video. https://dl.dropbox.c...1009_082732.mp4 It won't smoke when it is idling, but when accelerating it puffs out like crazy, the car was warm when the video was taking. It seems worse when the engine is cold. Looks like a bluey smoke, so im thinking oil?? Tips on how to diagnose whats wrong with my car appreciated! Temps seem fine, Still goes the same (not that i gave it a hard time due to the smoke screen). Hoping its turbo related because i am replacing them. I'm scared to drive on it, and you know have this lame thing called work, really don't want my engine to go BOOM
