  1. There is an abundance of SAE research available on the web. From my experience, not many papers have been of much use since they are always so specific to a componant and to their particular car. I read an interesting article on ackerman steering and their derivation of steering geometry once but the good ones have been few and far between.
  2. i was doing the timing on the long wang and you'd be surprised how many drivers didn't floor it through the flying finish. looked like a lot of people were backing off over the crest and not getting back on the gas down the hill again. easy worth a second or two there. Tim in the Micolour R32 is a prime example of someone who stays on it all the way to the finish
  3. speaking of Datsuns, i've been a little disappointed the last two DECA's with the amount of modern cars entered... SAUVIC needs a serious injection of pre-1980 machinery
  4. hey Bec, my plans have worked out well so i can make it. I'll take the long wang finish in the morn fine with running solo if the numbers are thin as well.
  5. anyone got any pics of the Datsun 1600?
  6. hey crossy put me down for long wang finish with ya!
  7. just noticed this thread. that BRM sounds amazing with headphones on! like it's driving around your head
  8. i wouldnt be too worried about finding staggered wheels. but definitely make a rear sway bar one your first purchases, they work wonders in FWD's Also get on board the next DECA event. FWD's are very competitive there! and as for having a Honda, the more diversity the better i reckon!
  9. if i official again at the next round, i'm bringing a mates ute... should make timing much cooler
  10. 1st car - Series 3 Bluebird TRX. CA20 was a great motor to learn with, couldn't get in too much trouble! lasted a year till i swapped it over with an SR20DET all was rosie till it got t-boned one night. 2nd car - Nissan N14 Pulsar Ti SR20DE+-T (i turbo'd it, then de-turbo'd it ) still own it 3rd car - Land Rover D1 Discovery. current daily. slow as balls but turbo diesel gets me 10l/100km. in a 2+tonne car, can't complain!
  11. for the discs, another option is to use R33 non-turbo (4-stud) discs. these fit straight on as well with the calipers. couple of similar pics. R32 calipers, S13 hubs, S13 coilovers, R33 non-turbo discs. i also cut off all of the stone guard off the back of the hub but you could probably just trim it to fit. and if you are running a banjo-style fitting. no worries, just shorten the banjo bolts! These are series 3 Bluebird banjo bolts. thread was the same as the R32 caliper, just used the hack-saw to shorten them, allowing the standard brake line to bolt on to the caliper
  12. haha good effort. gotta be in it to win it!
  13. who's got the low-down on the 18th birthday party at dinner?
  14. the free lunch does it for me I see there's still a flaggy spot available on the long wang. Someone jump in quick and get that spot! The flaggy positions are easily the best spectactor points on the long wang, and you get to see everyone fail at avoiding cones
  15. hey bec, i'll put my hand up for Long Wang finish again. Try convince one of the other guys not racing to join me
  16. keep an eye out on Ebay as well. see some bargains pop up there every now and then. I picked up a Sparco PRO2000 seat w/ 3-point clip in harness for under $300 I can't speak for other brands, but the Sparco has a replaceable seat cover. So buy one 2nd hand in whatever colour, then replace the cover with your colour of choice! have a look here.
  17. +1 When i bought my cars, i thought the Pulsar had an SR20 and the Land Rover had a turbo diesel. but a quick check on SAU and they both have RB20's not that there's anything wrong with RB20's... EDIT: seems i changed my custom title some time ago
  18. im a big fan of this one as well
  19. BIRDS have a look at this Tell me what this man should have done from about the 24-30 second mark. If you think it would be quicker to change to second and then back to first then you're dreaming. If you put the clutch in you start to slow down, if you back off early you lose time. Please explain. The other thing is that in a sub 30 second run of a motorkhana, the extra bit of heat you get in your tyres from a bit of wheel spin early may well be worth more time in grip than you lose initially. I don't know that it is but I bet you don't know that it isn't. I think you've made some good points but perhaps you are basing too much of your theory on circuit racing. But even in circuit racing you have those moments where you just nudge your rev limiter a moment before your braking point where it is not worth going to the next gear. How do you handle these situations?
  20. his Long Wang times were very respectable!
  21. haha yes, i think Phil was just as surprised as we were Congrats to Leon though, drove the tits off his machine to take knockout honours!
  22. seems everyone selling an old nissan/datsun these days is jumping on the expensive bandwagon These are getting rare, and the front on this is even rarer (iron face, or something they call it?) If you were going to restore and sit on it for a while, might be worth it as a future collectible, but it'd be a fair gamble
  23. any more pics/details on this car? looks like an animal!
  24. hate to be a negative nancy, but.. capslock, turn it off! and put up a location
