A Lil Somethin Somethin About Cat Converters
seraphyn_r33 replied to seraphyn_r33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
yeah your right r31nismoid, i figured that more or less it was the tune causing the problem, although im thinking that maybe the cat might have a little to do with it, but like you said, after some runs with the cat and without it, i will soon find out. a few hours after i wrote this thread, i ended up getting a phone call back from psi, for a 3 inch metalcat it will cost me 280 including delivery from brisbane to albury via australia post, which was a lot cheaper than i thought they would be! so sleepr85 you have a metalcat on your car, have you had any troubles with it??? -
Hey guys, Got my PowerFc installed and tuned about 3 weeks ago, and am very happy with it! makes my r33 fun again! haha ALTHOUGH ive noticed over the last week or so, my car has started to knock to pretty high levels on occasion. So since i will have to drive back to get my car re tuned, or at least have a closer look at the ignition maps (3 hour drive to melbourne) i figured i will replace my cat converter. My car has a turbo back JJR exhaust, and yes my exhaust has an infamous x force hi flow cat. i figured i may as well anyway, will most likely gain kws and car maybe run a little better. i think anyway? haha Are the x force cats really that bad??? could it even be one of the factors to why my car may be knocking sometimes??? (car has the following mods - turbo back exhaust, FMIC, Fuel pump, Power FC, makes 200 rwkws) or just the tune? Which brings me onto my main question, where can i find supply of "metalcat" cat converters?? ive tried psi products twice, and also emailed them and received no word back, the only other supplier i found was justsr.com, but the phone number on the site rang out. I want one in a hurry, as i will need it on my car by about next weekend Question number 2 is, is there any other brands of cat that are of equal quality??? any experiences? and question 3, it seems quite a few people on here have said that their metalcats are collapsing??? so should i maybe steer clear of them now??? i know there is a few threads on this, which i have read. but any more info would be very very much appreciated Cheers

How Many P's Platers On Here That Drive Turbo Skyline?
seraphyn_r33 replied to s1.533's topic in Victoria
i got my r33 gtst when i was on my green p's (NSW) mind you i got my license before the rules came in, but that being said i didnt get pulled over once by the police about my car. Two occasions for random breath tests, and both times the cops didnt say a thing about my car. I didnt really pay any attention for the laws they brought in so i didnt ever read up on them, do they apply to each state?? or just a few in particular?? because not one of my friends have been pulled over and fined for their turbo cars yet?? maybe just lucky haha. im in albury/wodonga which is on the border of NSW/VIC, maybe our small town cops are just a bit slow to read up on what they are supposed to enforce these days -
Hks Cat Back Exhaust To Suit R33

I was leaning towards a JJR split front pipe, as at the end of the day its just a welded and bent pipe. i figured that making 200 rwkws, it wouldnt be under too much stress, since some people have said on here that with bigger power they can warp and crack or whatever. If a few people here have said with the same kind of mods i have that it works well then that gives me a bit more confidence in their stuff. I might spend a lil more on the cat though. ive heard a helluva lot of stories about the xforce ones collapsing/having shit flanges and welds etc. Might look into a catco cat from bos importing for the cat, what are peoples experiences on them?? Yeah split pipes are a lot better bumble bee, because the bell mouth ones have a larger opening, it can give you a loss in pressure as there is more volume to fill in the opening, whereas the split openings have less space for the exhaust to travel about in the mouth before continuing on its journey to add to the greenhouse effect haha. i believe thats about correct? although i wouldnt imagine the difference in the two to be really huge?

i apologise if this has been covered before, used the search but didnt really come up with much info that i wanted. i am looking to finish off my cat back exhaust. basically want a few peoples opinions on the best dumps/hi flow cats for r33 gtsts. car is not highly modified, will be aiming for 200rwkws at the max when im finished with whatever mods i decide to buy in the future. just a quick daily driver. so what would be the best/most cost effective dump/front pipe and hi flow cat that i should be looking at buying?? want something that is reliable and flows really well. cheapest option obviously is the xforce range, but ive heard from a lot of people that they are shithouse? i also have been looking at the BOS importing stuff, and it looks and sounds the goods, but is pretty pricey. will obviously shelf out top dollar if need be, if its the only stuff that is going to work well, but thought i would grab some opinions from people on what they think or have experienced cheers

Here is a picture for the people who may be confused or unsure about the location of the aerial motor. The part i have circled is where the motor is located against the panel in the boot. (left hand side obviously) 2 screws are holding it in, get your arm in behind the panel (easy to get to, just remove the jack out of its holder like i have in the pic) because the wiring plug is on the other side of the motor to where you can get your arm in, it makes it hard to get to the plug, so unscrewing the bolts inside the circle i drew, plus unscrewing the chrome surround around the aerial on the outside of the car means you can spin the motor around and easily disconnect it. then simply spin it back around, put the screws back in, do up the chrome surround on the outside and your done. my aerial stopped working again, so i cracked the shits and forced the aerial down and then disconnected the motor. probably not the healthiest thing to do to the aerial and motor, but im over it. The aerial has to be down to be able to move the motor around or pull it out if you so desire. id say the motor and the gear had become misaligned and because i never ever use the radio anyway i simply couldnt be bothered pulling it fully out to clean it up and fix it up. But like i said before, a bit of wd40 will do wonders, so if you still want it to go up and down, give that a go before you give up the ghost and disconnect it altogether and/or pull it out. Even if you plan on forcing the aerial down like i did, go over the aerial and the motor with wd40 anyway, it will require less force to push it down then. Really really easy problem to fix, takes just a matter of minutes. But for anyone that reads this thread and is still confused i hope this helps.

i mean second hand items, not new ones. seems like a whole lot of messing around really. is it the same kind of story for genuine sideskirts/wing to fit to a gtst? i always thought they are a straight fit......
-
fair enoughski, might have to just look around for copy bars, that doesnt worry me at all, im just trying to save a bit of money and find some parts that match the colour of my car. im not really too interested in playing around with the reo or spending a lot of time mucking about getting one to fit, it all just gets a bit too costly for my peasant wages haha on another note, does anyone know what kind of front bar is this?? i really want one
-
just thought id add my 2 cents to the possible avenues for people to go down. my aerial stopped working a few weeks ago. Was stuck up all the time. everytime i turned the car on/off i could hear the motor whirring away but nothing happened. all i did was unscrew the chrome surround, pull the aerial fully out (not seperate it from the motor gear though) and then just cleaned off the grime and shit, sprayed each join in the aerial and the motor gear with wd40 and bam its fixed, works fine. just a possible course of action to take before people go pulling out their jack and then disconnecting and pulling out the aerial motor.

R32 GTST = 7k R32 GTR = 18k R33 GTST = 14k R33 GTR = 22k R34 GTT = 20k R34 GTR = 50k no i think that list looks pretty spot on to me. although yes of course some that fetch that money arent in good condition, just as many are in great cond too. most people are in a hurry to get rid of their 'lines at the moment. but I do agree that a wine red series 1 with 141000 kms would be lucky to fetch anything over the 11-12 grand mark AT THE MOST today. Like has been said, its definitely a buyers market at the moment. rising fuel costs, the models age increasing, all adding to more people wanting to sell theirs. on top of that wine red skylines seem to be worth a lot less because of their colour being so common, and it being the least visually appealing to most people (i could be totally wrong on that statement, just judging by how much less wine red skylines sell in comparison to the same in a different colour) im in the same boat as you, i have a 95 series 1 in the two tone blue/grey, with a few more mods than yours, and a lot less k's, and unfortunately i know im not gonna be able to get much more than 11 or maybe even 12 grand if im lucky for it. BUT that being said, on the plus side is that even though gtsts arent selling for much, 33 gtrs have dipped significantly in price over the last 6-12 months as well, some importers ive looked into can get you one for about the 20-25k mark incl compliancing and some if not all on road costs. ive seen 33 gtrs for private sale for anywhere between 20-30k mark as well. If your looking to upgrade to a 33 gtr, either way its gonna cost you at least another 10-15k after you sell your gtst

do genuine r33 front bars bolt up to the existing mounts of a r33 gtst or is there an amount of work to get it to fit?? i know that i would need to purchase gtr indicators and wire them up if i was to find one. But is there any modification required to fit the actual bar? only reason i ask is that im looking for r33 bodyparts to fit my gtst, and since im not in a huge rush, im just looking about for genuine parts in the factory deep marine blue, so it matches up to my paint instead of paying the extra for spraying and fitting. on that note, would anyone know of a place or person/s that would have gtr parts, or just r33 bodyparts in the factory deep marine blue (BN6 is the paint code) that i could source?

anyone???

i had a look through import monster and slidewize imports the other day. found a few bonnets for around the 40-60 dollar mark, but yeah adding shipping made the bottom line price go up to about 320 odd dollars, and also of course about a 2 month wait to get it via container which im not really into just for a bonnet. 50 bucks! thats an awesome price! Sydney isnt out of my way, i can just organise freight. would it be possible to get a few names of the wreckers, and maybe numbers if you have them???
-
yeah i was thinking about just getting one out of japan, as ive found a few around the 40 dollar mark or so, but i wouldnt imagine it being too cheap to freight it here??
-
Hey guys, Finally went down to the panel shop today to get a quote on my bonnet to be resprayed (was in horrible condition when i bought the car) my suspicions were correct in assuming that basically its f**ked. The cost to get it back up to scratch is going to be ridiculous, so this is where i need your help!! basically im going to just buy a new bonnet, so would you guys be so kind as to point me in the direction of some really good wreckers where i stand a good chance of finding a good condition series 1 bonnet for a good price. ive searched the forum and came across the thread listing reputable wreckers, but that thread is 5 years old now, so if anyone knows of somewhere decent, please let me know!!! im located on the border of NSW/VIC so a wrecker in melbourne/canberra would be ideal, but i seriously dont care if there is a place on the other side of the country. would preferably want a bonnet in the stock series 1 deep marine blue, obviously to match my car, but just a good bonnet in straight condition so it can basically be just sanded back and painted. or if anyone is selling one???? ill buy it off you hahah Thanks guys

Hey all, Have a set of stern 17s on my car. (the 5 spoke model, no idea what name they have) im very partial to 5 spoke rims, so i quite like them! Ive decided that im most likely going to fit some sideskirts and front bar to my car, so does anyone with an r33 with stern 17s post up some pics?? id especially like to see how they look with a kit??
-
No one has really mentioned replacing the 02 sensor?? Have you replaced it since youve had the car?? if your going to put on a dump pipe you may as well spend the 100 or so bucks for a new one as you can remove the old one and install the new one while the dump is off? good for a few kws i guess if you still have the tired old factory O2 on there. i believe they are supposed to be replaced every 40,000ks or something?? but yeah definitely go dump pipe/hi flow cat converter first
-
Dump Pipe + Hi Flow Cat (also replace your 02 sensor if it hasnt been yet) $500-700+ FMIC $1000+ Fuel Pump $300+ Injectors (optional) $1000+ Stand Alone ECU $1500+ In my opinion thats probably the most effective, both power and cost wise to get the most out of your car. Im at the same stage as you and this is what most people tend to agree on. Get them in that order, as you can install each one easily yourself (if you want) without any negative side effects, and when you install the ecu you will only have to get it tuned once instead of after each mod. After that stage then you go onto things like bigger turbo, internal work or whatever you wish to do etc etc.

Had an interesting idea just before. Saw a white r33 kicking around earlier with a series 2 sedan front bar on it. (They look basically the same as the series 2 coupe front bar, just different style indicators. You guys reckon that a series 2 front bar from a sedan would look good in blue/grey?? i think it wouldnt be too bad?? Have you ever seen anything like that?
-
I really dig that front bar Trent, whereabouts did you find it?? It would be really Good to see some before + after pics of your car yo-yo??
-
Trent, what kind of front bar is that? i can see that its a series 2 bar, but im guessing thats an aftermarket lip?? where did you source it from?? My car looks exactly like yours sauce! except of course blue/grey and i still have the series 1 front bar, not the mspec version. same style of wheels, mine are stern 17s in a 5 spoke. also very keen to see some pics of your car yo-yo

Wassup?? I own a two tone r33, blue over grey, and im pretty stranded on ideas for the outside of my car? id kinda like to keep the two tone effect to be a little different, so if anyone has some pics of their silver/grey and blue/grey r33s, can you please post some up???? Or even some of r33s in the stock blue without the grey trim? Thanks a lot guys!!!!!!!!!!!
