What suspension have I got ?
maccattack replied to Tommyk's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I have the same suspension on my R33 GTR. Not too sure (like you) of the model but excellent suspension. Ohlins are used predominately by racing motorcycles. They are considered to be one of the best suspension systems in the world. Quite expensive to buy new. Mine use Eibach springs and while being a little stiff (but not too stiff) for everyday driving, they are great for the track. -
I had mine tuned by Brisbane Tuning & Turbo at Woolloongabba. Don't know about the Datalogic software though. Probably worth a call.

Falken RT215 Azenis?
maccattack replied to LTSJayce's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I must say though, for track days - I've tried the Azenis and the Toyo Proxies but neither compare to the Bridgestone RE55's. If you're after 4 track tyres I would definitely give them a try. -
Falken RT215 Azenis?
maccattack replied to LTSJayce's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I was advised recently that Falken has stopped production of all motorsport tyres (including slicks) and have no plans to recommence. Apparently they are withdrawing from motorsport completely. So if you are after Azenis, you will only find existing stock. -
What boost level do Champ Cars run?
maccattack replied to 08Elf's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Zoom magazine No 55 has an article on the Bluebird and mentions "in race trim around 1.6bar (23.5psi) of boost, which is pretty good considering it's 19 years old. As for the qualifying set-up, I'll let Fred Gibson explain:"We just wound up as far as it (the wastegate)would go. It would probably be a bit under 3bar (44psi) and would be pumping out over 400hp (298kW+). It was good for one lap, then the turbo was junk." " -
Hi all, just wondering if I could get some feedback from those in the know. I am currently a fairly regular attendee at sprint days and am currently pushing my R33 GTR pretty hard and am wanting to go to the next level - ie: more horsepower / side by side stuff and perhaps getting into one of the improved production classes. Rather than keep upgrading the GTR I am looking to buy and set up a dedicated race car and have a couple of options. 1. Buy a GTS (GTST), and install a GTR motor big brakes, etc. etc 2. Buy a R32 GTR and set it up specifically for the track. I am told the better option is the GTS (with a GTR motor) due to weight, however I don't know whether or not I will miss the 4WD aspect of the GTR's. Your comments would be appreciated. I want to do as much research before committing as I would like to be spending the money as wisely as possible. Thanks

What boost level do Champ Cars run?
maccattack replied to 08Elf's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Just came across this - different again "Over the past few years, as speeds rose, CART reduced the amount of boost from a whopping 45 psi down to 34, using pop-off valves. The valves are electronically monitored by sensors. The only way for teams to get power up was by increasing rpms, which was costly. "Part of the cost savings this year was our ability to reduce the rpms back to 12,000. But to bring the power back up again, we increased the boost," says Bisco. Currently, 41.5 psi blasts through the turbocharger, making 750 hp at 12,000 rpm. " -
GTR rims - stained from brake dust

I had it fixed at a place in Bowen Hills but I'm stuffed if I can remember their name. I'll keep looking, but in the meantime check out http://www.depuluwheels.com/ as they have a very good reputation. Not too sure about prices, but give them a call. -
What boost level do Champ Cars run?
maccattack replied to 08Elf's topic in General Automotive Discussion
This is taken from one of the CHAMP car sites- · Nominal power: 750 bhp at 1054mm Hg (Maximum intake pressure on road circuits. When on ovals maximum is 990mm Hg) · Maximum power: 800 bhp at 1130mm Hg. This amount of power is only unleashed when push to pass is activated. This system was developed in 2004 at request of Champ Car aimed to increace overtaking. This is a procedure where each driver has the opportunity to increase engine power by 50bhp, for a maximum of 60 seconds per race. A steering wheel-mounted button activates the system and a combination of increased turbo boost and fuelling provides the extra power, to allow drivers to mount a passing move or fend off competitors. 1 mm Hg (or millimetre of Mercury) is equivalent to .001316 atmospheres. This would then equate to a maximum boost of 1.487 bar or 21.57psi or 43.91 inches of mercury -
Oil starvation solution for RB engines.
maccattack replied to Boosted Zed's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Also see the thread "Accusump vs Sump Mods" in the Forced Induction Forum. I fitted an Accusump to my GTR and as you say finding a place to put it is a little difficult. We ended up mounting it inside the front bumper - just needed a slight modification. We had looked at plenty of other placed but were always mindful of a) keeping it outside the car - didn't want even the slightest chance of bursting and sending hot oil all over anyone, and B) keeping it as close to the engine as possible to maintain pressure. I've run mine on the track since and have had no problems with it or oil pressure. Maybe not as good as a full sump mod, but certainly a lot better than nothing at all. -
Do you own a blackr33/34? let me know what you think here..

Hi jacuba8, I've got a black GTR but when (what date) is the wedding?? -
DoughBoy, Used the 3 quart canister.
-
Well, I finally had an Accusump fitted to the car yesterday along with a cooler and remote filter. As most have told me it is an intermediate solution to surging (as opposed to full sump work). They fitted the cannister inside the the front bumper (will a little modification) which keeps it relatively close to the engine to maintain good pressure. Whole unit cost me around $580-00 (including electronic control valve and switch) plus fitting. I'll keep you up to date with how it goes - have some track work comming up next week. Whilst I previously haven't had any pressure drop, this should just act as a little more insurance.

Find out the treadwear indicator on the side of the tyre. Quite often you can get the same make of tyre with varying treadwear ratings. The lower the rating the quicker it will wear, but generally the stickier the tyre.

Hey Chris, Which day are you racing??
-
Hi Pete, I'm sure there are a few who would be more than happy to drive you to your formal however if you "pay" for the ride then the driver is liable to be busted for operating a limo/taxi without a licence. Also their insurance can be compromised for the same reason. When is your formal anyway?

Safe pinging and detonation..?

Check out this older thread - some good info http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=48466 -
Jason, Have you found the increased camber is providing better cornering. I know my car is set up with standard camber at the moment and have been toying with a camber kit to get out to about -2. Even with the settings you currently have, have you found it better (cornering) than the standard set-up??

Expression of Interest: – Private track day at Queensland Raceway.

Had my aircon fixed just recently at Brisbane Tuning & Turbo at Woolloongabba 3393 1588. I think they use the radiator - aircon guys across the road, but all is now good. Something to do with a pipe that tends to deteriorate in the skylines. Sounds as though your prob may be slightly different, but they should be able to help.

Scotsman, I tried to deposit funds using your bank details but your BSB is not correct. Would you please check and amend. I am now looking at the GTR kit with the blue hose as opposed to the braided. If we know what the weight of the kit is I can provide freight costs as well.
-
Scotsman, do you have the final price INCLUDING freight as yet? Am ready to order, but need final pricing.
