  1. Probably not the right thread to ask. Obviously something is wrong there. My 260RS get 400-450km out of a tank and is running 13psi. What ECU are you running? If it's standard do a fault code check and see what it comes up with. Go from there. Might be a boost leak somewhere, too.
  2. Mine was a bit over 2ms. We reduced it to around 1.7 I think. It still fried after that, so it doesn't seem to be dwell that's the problem. Good idea to check your ground. I measured mine and also pulled the coil pack loom apart and re-taped it. Couldn't find any issues. Very strange... Scooby, so you're in Brissy? Me too. I could probably fix the coilpack for you if you want.
  3. As mentioned, I have fried a few of these. Even a brand new one from Nissan ($750 worth!)... I've reduced the dwell, put in Splitfire coil packs and soldered the burnt out ground and haven't had a problem for a year now. Anyone know of any other wasted-spark setups that are burning out ignitors? Pics of the inners of the ignitor and the fix here: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Ca...67#entry4875367
  4. I fried an ignitor in my Stag. Bought a new one from Nissan and it died a few months later! Went all over my wiring, checked grounds, supply, untaped the coil loom and checked everything. I even replaced the coilpacks with splitfires and then the ignitor died again! I cut open the box and discovered the common ground track had fried. I soldered a piece of wire over it and good as gold. It has been going for over a year now! I also looked at a dead one my mechanic had and it had also blown in the same spot. Repaired it, works perfectly. Also repaired my first one and carry it around in theboot just in case
  5. Interesting to know the differences in the Autech. I always wondered why it was blanked off where it looks like it should have cup holders. It's pretty annoying actually. Anyone know why they did that? Prevent the manual gear knob hitting the cups? I might see if I can get an RS4 one and stick it in there. Anyone wanna sell one? My 260RS has the RB25DET tag, but on Fast it has the Autech pop-up window. I say, who cares if yours is really a 260 or not. Just enjoy it. They're not exactly rare collectors cars anyway..
  6. Add my name to the list. Had it a few years.
  7. Sounds very good. Would be awesome to see if standard RB26 turbos could also be given this treatment
  8. Yeah I think electronic would be the go. Having said that, there are turbo cars that have vacuum setups. I know for sure that the 300zx tt had a vacuum setup. Keen to see how people with stags have built it into the dash.
  9. Hey All, I'm thinking I might fit cruise control to my 260RS. Just wondering what style will be best to fit. Be it a stalk, push buttons, whatever. So show us what you got.
  10. Spotted a yellow series 2 with something huge on the roof racks heading South on the Bruce Highway somewhere around the Sunshine Coast. I was in my 260RS and waved.
  11. I went with a 100cell, 5" cat from an exhaust shop in Bathurst. I forget their name. They shipped it up to me. Was a reasonable price and hasn't given me any issues that I'm aware with.
  12. Hmmm that could be it. Gets babied most the time and give it the stick every now then..
  13. What else causes black smoke? Everyone tells me my Stagea blows black smoke, but I've had it dyno tuned so it goes ramps up to 11.4:1 up in the revs. Would that be too rich? I have a 100cfm 5" cat, would that have anything to do with it? Sorry for hijacking.
  14. Sorry to go back a page, but I struggle to understand how the cat makes the mixture at the muffler leaner than before the cat. The O2 sensor is just that, an Oxygen sensor, the cat is not producing oxygen. Therefore, I'm thinking that if the mixture at the muffer is leaner, it's most likely caused the fact that the O2 sensor is being affected by air mixing in the tail pipe. Just food for thought...
  15. Thanks Toshi, I never knew there was a difference between AFR at muffler and AFR before cat. I have just installed an AFR sensor before the cat. I'll have to keep that in mind...
  16. Nice car. I'm sure you'll enjoy. Looks like someone has spent a lot of money on mods. I'd be interested to hear what's done to it. I agree, the gauges look a bit rough...
  17. Yeah Don the issue you might be referring to is on R34s/Stagea 260RSs. The Air con clutch relay is always powered by 12V in these cars, but is switched by ignition on the older Skylines. The Vipec grounds the aircon signal when the ignition is off which causes the air con clutch to switch on whenever the car is off. The fix is a small change the wiring on the air con relay. It's in the manual. I think the later Vipecs might have resolved this issue on the ECU board. Not sure what the problem with this R33 is. Have a play with the settings and see what happens. Check out the wiring to the clutch fan relay. Sounds like the coil side is always grounded. Could be an ECU issue, could be a wiring issue.
  18. I installed an Innovative Motorsports wideband O2 sensor last week. Didn't want to drill holes in the dash and not sure how permanent it will be, so I ziptied it to the vent under the windscreen. Looks fine, doesn't get in the way and fairly stable. The clamp that comes with it is way too tall and chunky. Hmmm JDMSprit's and Goldzilla's gauges look awesome
  19. Yeah that sucks man. So they found the car then?
  20. I think 10psi is standard. 14psi is about the max you want to run safely. I'm running 13psi on my 260RS and have 200kwatw. Perhaps you have a blocked cat or a boost leak or something like that. 4psi is less than actuator pressure I think.
  21. I've done this job, too. Be prepared to lose much of the skin on your knuckles. I suggest getting one of those protecting sheets to put on the side of your car to stop it getting scratched etc. Swear jar is also a necessity. I used to instructions in the R33 manual. They are pretty straight forward provided you are able to bend your wrists backwards. I think it took me about 2 days, but I took my time and also took the chance to paint the plenum while it was out.
  22. Man that sucks. Nothing worse than car thieves/vandals. Just not cool to mess with someone's pride and joy. Yesterday I fitted a wideband AFR meter to my 260RS. Can't wait to have a play with the Vipec features (mixture map, wideband closed-loop)
  23. Guys, I really can't stress enough, not to skimp on insurance. One of my mates crashed his Soarer. He was the back car in a 3 car pile up. Basically no leg to stand on. He had no 3rd party cover and had to get a loan to repair all 3 cars! Thankfully the other cars were only cheap (Magna and Astina), otherwise he could have been up for a lot more money. Not worth risking it guys. At least take out 3rd party insurance.
  24. I switched to Shannons from Just Cars a few months back. They were marginally dealer (somewhere around $1200 I think), but things like free windscreen are nice. I've also put my wife's Mini with them and now the house and contents to get multi-policy discount. I just told them that I go to a few motoring events and do my own maintenance. The guy on the phone even knew what a Stagea 260RS was and also knew what a John Cooper Works kit is on a Mini
  25. Hmmm I didn't know the Autech versions had special paint as well. Mine is the same colour as yours (as are most it seems).
