You raise a good point there... Anyone have much experience with R34 BB turbos? A mate of mine got a set rebuilt with steel wheels. He was adamant that they would be far more responsive that a set of SS's and should give close to 300rwkw which is ample for the street. The bugger is that he left the country and locked his car up 2 years ago, so it's never seen a dyno to prove how well the R34 BB turbos perform. I'd love to see some results of a set running some decent boost. I'm thinking for my heavy Stagea, they might be a better choice for the street.

Bugger. Certainly nothing adjustable there. The K659 looks like a FET that has its heat sink anchored to the board with a screw, so certainly not an adjustment. I guess you'd just have to install it and see what happens. Many years ago I sourced a unit from a Commodore. I figured out the wiring and the speed input and had it working on the bench top just fine. I was gonna install it on my GTI-R. The hard part was making up something to mount at the throttle. Hence, never got around to it. Dunno how well it would have worked. Totally different engine reponses. Cruise control kits seem way too expensive for what they are. I really need on in the Stag. My misses just got a MIni and even it has cruise control!

Wideband Oxygen Sensor Installation
BoostedBarge replied to 32vspec2gtr's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I've got a V44 and just bought an LC-1 to install. Already have a bung just after where the front pipes merge. Can't wait to test it out. The 'Mixture Map' feature looks very interesting. It will measure AFR and compare it with target AFR in each cell of the fuel map, then it will adjust the fuel map to get the actual AFRs to match the target. Very cool. Cruising AFR of 15.5:1 should be very nice, too -
Haha. Try lugging around a 1700kg Stagea with an RB26. Certainly lack of down low torque is a bit painful for around town driving, but up in the revs it is a different story (as well all know). I'm still running stock turbos and I think they are a bit laggy for the Stagea. I'd love to see a comparison dyno chart between a stock turbos and -7s or -9s. Do they have as much down low as the stock turbos?

Really? I've never thought of either of these options. My Stag has Lucas TRW pads and I swear everytime I have to clean the damn fiddly stocker 260RS rims.. -

My wife and I just bought a 2003 Mini Cooper S for her to use as a daily. That means the Stag is no longer a daily driver and I can do what I want to it. Hehehe Oh, another positive... it turns out the Mini has a John Cooper Works kit which boosts power from 120 to 155kw Previous owner must have spent a lot of money on it. Kit includes exhaust, supercharger, cylinder head, air box, injectors and remap. Bonus for me. The down side is that I'm overseas and the wife picked it up yesterday, so I'll have to wait 2 weeks til I can drive it. -
It was great to catch up with you guys. I didn't get to BP on time, because I got lost. Was so pissed off with myself that I could not find the biggest servo North of the Gold Coast. Hahaha.

Yeah it can be a bit tricky to get the EPROM out without damaging the board. I isntalled a Nistune board once. Didn't take that long. Just needed a lot of hot air to get the chip out and then solder wick to clean up the left over solder.

Hi Guys, About 6 months ago I replaced the timing belt on my RB26. Unfortunately I mis-read the procedure and overtightened the belt slightly. It makes a slight wirring noise at low revs. I can't remember if I can access the timing belt tensioner by just removing the top timing belt cover or if I need to remove the bottom cover (and harmonic balancer) to access it. Just trying to plan when to do it (I'm not home very often). Thanks, Simon

I have used Mothers back to black for years on various cars and it is pretty good stuff. It does wear off after a while. Armourall also works, as does silicone spray

Hi Guys, Dunno why I didn't post this question earlier. I have a Stagea 260RS, which I've owned for over 2 years. One thing I've always noticed with this car is that the engine kinda makes a rattley/rumbly sorta noise at low RPM (perhaps 2000rpm). It's hard to explain, but it sounds like it's sorta labouring. It's not pinging, I've heard pinging before and it sounds nothing like it. It's a lower frequency rumbling sorta noise. Perhaps it's the body kit or something resonating at that frequency. Maybe the exhaust. I dunno. Has anyone else noticed this? Is it a normal RB26 thing? I've never had an RB26 before this, so have nothing to compare against. This noise has been there since I bought the car and I'ver never been overly concerned about it. Over the last few years I have replaced the ECU with a Vipec, fixed a leaking inlet manifold gasket and done the 100k service kit. I've checked compression twice. The last time was 18 months ago and got 180+ in each cylinder and 160 something in cylinder 6. Any ideas?

I'm a maybe (+1) at this stage. Been away for over a month and get back on Friday, so I expect the family will want some of my time.

I have a Vipec V44 plug-in on my Stagea 260RS (R33 GTR engine). I also had the problem with the aircon clutch relay, but it's easy to fix. I believe the next runs of ECUs will have a fix for this anyway (if it's not out already). Either way, it's no biggy. Yeah, you don't have to wire in a wideband O2 sensor, but there are heaps of features you can access when you do. I just picked an Innovate one for $200, so will be wiring that in soon to trim my tune a bit more. I went from stock ECU to Vipec and it really does drive as smooth as stock. Mine has been tuned as mentioned above. 2 maps, 1 with TPS vs RPM and the other MAP vs RPM.

I contacted the liquid LPG guys about a year ago and they said it was only available for common cars (ie Falcon and Commodore) and there was no universal kit available at that time. I wonder if things have changed. It does sound very tempting...

N1 block should be sweet. What turbos you going to run? I just spent 2.5 days polishing mine. Far out, these cars are waaaay too big to polish. Looks great now. Ended up hitting the small scratches with Meguires Scratch X, then did the whole thing with Mother's Clay Bar and then Meguires Gold Class, then Mother's Back to Black on the roof racks and other black bits. Far out what a day!! Kinda ran out of time to do the windows and then take photos before the sun went down My wideband AFR meter arrived today at 3pm, but I had no time to fit it Back to work tomorrow for 2 weeks, so it'll have to wait a while -

Yesterday I cleaned the engine bay and gave it a good wash. Today I'm gonna hit it with Mothers Clay Bar and then Meguirs Gold Class Wax. Should look awesome Also, just bought an Innovate wideband O2 sensor that should arrive tomorrow. I'm gonna wire it in to my Vipec ECU and leave it in the car pernamently. Can't wait to play the tune Just gonna try and lean out the low-load everyday driving parts in the search of better economy. -
I'm running a plug-in Vipec on my 260RS. Had it for 18 months now and can't really fault it. They keep bringing out firmware upgrades and it just keeps getting better Otherwise, I would also vote Nistune (if it's available for your ECU). I had it on my old GTI-R and it worked brilliantly.

Rb26- Where To Install Map Sensor For Ecu On A Gtr
BoostedBarge replied to jeffworld2's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Mine is teed off the line to the fuel pressure regulator. From what I can tell, this is also at the same pressure as the rear take-off for the factory boost gauge. I'm tempted to tee it off there so it is more stealth. -
Wideband O2 Sensor Placement On R32 Gtr
BoostedBarge replied to Nathyne's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I have an Apexi front pipe and managed to fit it before the cat, just after the 2 pipes merge. I didn't realise it had to be tilted upwards to prevent water getting to it. -
My misses just got 430km out of the last tank in our Stagea 260RS. That's the record so far. I think it's cause the aircon is off now and I just enabled overrun fuel cut.

Nissan Sound Control Exhaust
BoostedBarge replied to Bis-e Bee's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Haha. Very nice to re-enable factory features. I installed a similar system on my old GTI-R. Used an Apexi ECV (exhaust control valve) just after the car. It's basically a butterfly in the exhaust. Cuts power hugely, but makes it silent. It looks like Nissan's system is a bit nicer and bypasses the muffler or something. I hooked my old ECV up to a cruise control motor from a 300ZX, then I could operate it from the dash Was a bit ghetto though, because it was a vacuum pump and you could hear it buzzing away under the seat when you closed the ECV. Plus, because it was vacuum it would slowly open eveyr 20 mins and would automatically open when you shut the engine off. Was good fun though Made a huge difference to the exhaust sound -
I'm pretty sure many import Nissans don't have it. I think it used to be part of compliance to fit a little pot that would dim the dash. My GTI-R had one that was definately fitted by compliance, but it was imported before all the compliance rules changed. Pretty sure my 260RS doesn't have any dimmer and it was imported after the rules changed.

1996 R33 Gtr Series 2 For Sale.
BoostedBarge replied to glaze's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
Nice car! How many kays are on it? I'm thinking of selling my Stagea 260RS and getting a GTR -
Don't forget that when on boost the car is running much richer (mine goes to 12:1 and then 11.4:1 up in the revs), so you are using much more fuel when on boost. That's why I try to change gear before it comes on boost.

This looks like an awesome car mate. Very tempting. I've been having thoughts of selling my Stagea 260RS and buying a GTR...
