  1. Before you knock it give this some thought. I have a na rb30 in a r31 wagon. My choices are a high comp na with rb25 pistons and head. I'd have to buy a whole rb25de, probably wouldn't get the torque I'm after. I could run a na comp turbo setup which I've experieced and can say I would be very happy with. Would need turbo, manifold, oil/water lines, crossover pipe, the list goes on... Then there's injectors and fuel pump. Why not use a 2L toyota supercharger? 1. They are off a 2L engine that revs to 8000 rpm which means they'd cope with a 3L that need only go to 6000rpm. 2. There would be no oil/water lines needed, 3. It could be completely switchable for daily driving and towing which would keep my economy. 4. Because it's switchable and economy isn't an issue an extra injector linked to a hobbs pressure switch or something similar could be used when on boost instead of expensive computer mods. 5. Turbo's generate more heat and backpressure in the exhaust which brings on detonation, less heat and backpressure means a supercharger could safely run more boost. 6. There is the ability to run a decent set of headers which is more power again. The only thing will be whether I can retain the air con and whether the distributor is in the way. The superchargers are only about $350 and I know someone who could make the required pulleys and bracketry. I'm after something that will give me good cheap (relatively speaking) power and torque and will not sacrifice economy too much. So what have I missed? Who can crush my dreams?
  2. Here's something interesting that just hit me, has anyone seen a japanese r31 without the series 3 healights/guards? Can't say I have. Could the s1 & 2 fronts be australian only? I'm looking to do a diff converion to my s3 wagon. Some skyline sedans had a h195 live rear end. Don't hear about them much though. To save you the reply, I know the springs mount differntly on the wagons, just haven't had a good look at a h195 to see if it will be doable yet.
  3. Forgot to mention, no vehicle insurance. Someone hits you, you hit someone, it's a racing incident. I took my silvia K's out the first time and stressed, the brakes were terrible as well. I have a stanza now, cheap, easy on parts and brakes twice as good (stripped out) and does it all day. And if I roll it I'm up for $100 for another one.
  4. Hey guys, I don't think you can register. I've been twice and each time you just turn up and pay on the day. It's fairly busy for the first few rounds but everyone manages to get out on the track. Believe it or not, by the end of the day there's no line! The one's I've been to have been in summer and the heat takes it's toll on cars and drivers. You will need a helmet, long sleeve shirt and pants. Fire extinguishers are not needed in road registered cars. There's a bowser at the track that has optimax and the BP in Benalla has ultimate, the shell has optimax. Normally pays to be there about 9am, Driver's breifing is usually at 10( not 100% sure). Keep your eye on www.wintonraceway.com.au, it's listed on the callendar. While I have everyone's attention I'm after a good digital photo of a series 3 skyline silhouette rear decal to make up a new one, can anyone help me out?
  5. Yes they are now organised under triple A as far as I understand. You don't need a CAMS license and never did because it is a fun day and not a race meet. The entry is a "come and try" style entry.
  6. Hi guys, Winton fun day 1st August 2004 $20 for entrants (normally, could be slightly more) spectators free They have 1/2 hour sessions all day Alternating 1 session with only drivers, the next you must have a passenger Stay out for as long as you like or till the end of the session. Official rules ar drive 80% of your ability which just means drive within your limits. Genrally 20+ cars on the track at a time. You can overtake as much as you like but its not a race. You can be black flagged if you are being dangerous but they are very sensible and aren't fun-nazi's. You've got plenty of notice, so be prepared!!!!!
  7. I've got a gregory's manual for my 31 wagon and there's certainly no mention of any sxe.
  8. My sister's in the same boat, we're looking at early ninety's suburu liberty wagons (she's got kids). They're well built, reliable, equal length driveshafts means no typical front drive torque steer) Go the wagons!!!
  9. Howdy folks, I am currently 3/4 of the way thru painting my S3 R31 skyline wagon (white on silver), with the intention of making it as close to a series 3 silhouette as possible (red pinstriping etc..). I'm fairly sure nissan aren't going to drop everything to order me in one original bootlid "silhouette" decal, so I'm hoping someone with a series 3 silhouette and a digital camera would take a good quality photo of their decal for me, that I could have one made from. I've picked up a great set of wheels off a japanese half cut that really suit the car and I'm looking forward to putting up some pics when it's finnished, for those into some "old school" stuff. Cheers, Shane.
  10. I don't think I'd ever justify wasteing money on personal plates but I wouldn't mind something like NBR PL8 or NMR PL8 There's probably just one too few letters. NMBR PL8 would be ideal.
  11. How long do we have to get entries in? My stanza is off the road getting an L20B but time to finnish screwing it all together is sparse. I'm hoping to have it ready within a couple of months because I have to finnish painting my r31 thats sitting in the shed first. Too many projects, not enough time. Shane
  12. Sorry, didn't catch the message before the weekend. The "Wheels of time" is a seperate event which we usually have a static display in. After last year of sitting around we decided it wasn't worth sitting out at DECA unless we could run a motorkhana as a display to the crowd of what we do. It went off well, mostly club entries with a few other participants from other "wheels of time" displays. You can go out to DECA at any time thru the week and if you asked at the office I would be very surprised if they didn't let you have a look around. I don't know if they are open every weekend but most times I drive past there is someone out there, the other day it was some mazda or mx-5 club. I organised an event out at DECA thru our club last year which was a series of motorkhanas that went from mid-day to midnight (headlights only after dark). Some of the motorkhana's used the whole skid pan area, plenty of big corners to drift if u like. We tried to attract some of the young guys here in Shepparton to join in and had a no-commitment come-and-try entry. The trouble is nearly the whole entry fee goes to CAMS as 1-day-insurance for these "non CAMS members". We got a big crowd, a decent number of entries but twice as many guys parked their cars like it was a show-n-shine and sat there and watched. We didn't make much out of it and spent alot of time running around stopping burn-outs etc...
  13. Sounds good guys. I'll be marking the day on the callendar to pop out for a look. It will be good to see the venue used for something a little more challenging that "spear a spud" at springnats.
  14. Hey guys sounds like a great event. I'm the secretary of the Shepparton & District Car Club and we have held numerous events from sprint meetings to motorkhana's on the back track and on the skid pan over the years. In fact we have a motorkhana on this Sunday for participants in the "wheels of time" festival. We were forced to cancel our last sprint meeting due to be held on the back track which is one scary track with an awesome crest following onto a dip and a left hand corner because DECA has recently put "armaco" on the corner at the end of the front straight to protect newly built houses. I have personally come off that corner twice and I can say it is so easy to do. We had chicanes in the middle of the front and back straights to keep speeds down and to get CAMS approval and it was still possible to be going fast enough by this corner to lose it big time. The agreement with DECA is simply if you hit the "armaco" you pay for it and it costs a shit load. So it would be important to figure out if the organisers will cover the cost or the person who hits it does. I'm not trying to spoil your event, but I'd hate you to get there and have DECA tell you NO WAY when they find out your exact plans. I'd double check this and if the event goes ahead which I hope it does in some form I'll definately be out there for a look. Regards Shane.
  15. I sure did, stood there and stared for ages. I've had a thing for these cars for a couple of years since I first saw one but had not seen one in real life. It would certainly look good in my garage with all the other cars I'll probably never own.
  16. Ha ha, You're right about the girls, With my girlfriend at my side a mate and I had to resort to a lower form of amusement. As 80 to 90% of the cars had power windows and the batteries disconnected we went to every four door from Suburu back up to BMW and flicked the child safety locks on the back doors, leaving one of the doors invitingly open. You can't even wind down the windows to open the door from the outside. ha ha. Some of the euro's had funny locks on them that needed flat head screw drivers or something but we still had our share of laughs. Had two kids in the back of a patrol for about five minutes. :devfu:
  17. I used to have a two-tone silver turbo silvia but I sold it to buy a house 6 months ago and don't go out much anymore. Getting married, selling my toys, don't do it guys!!! get out while you can!
  18. mate, I love 31 coupes, my all time no1 would be a 32v-spec but so long as I had say, a 32 I think a 31 gts-x would fit right in. I wouldn't ask you to do it for nothing. The offer stands. Any pics would be a great help.
  19. Engine/wheels doesn't matter, we might use the cars at the gardens where we are having the ceremony in some of the photo's and as standard looking cars they will be better down the track to look at. I'm also a purist when it comes to external modifications. If you've got any pics please e-mail me.
