Unsure how easy the r34 fsm is to obtain as I've never looked. However what is the issue and are you sure the previous owner didn't remove hicas

Rb25/30 radiator and heater hoses
Scott Black replied to Dean GTR's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
You use the rb25 thermostat housing so you can use a factory r34 lower hose. Yet the top hose you will need to play with a bit as the head now sits higher -
Just me being a smart ass as the 3l rb30 block is 4cm higher
-
Also on that last pic. The deck hight on the block looks about 40mm short. If you have head off you should fix that too. There's a good write up on how to do that in the rb30 area
-
Also worth noting that just because one person as got away with something doesnt mean everyone can, might of just got lucky and found one that worked.

Depends how much you like your licence. They drink alot less than a skyline yet even stock they are rather difficult to avoid speeding in at times. When stock from a comfort point of view they are very similar to a standard Lancer so very easy to daily.

Not a 34 gtr yet I know of 3 s15 around the 350rwkw mark on e85 with standard lines and rails -
Blown Neo head gasket - Next steps?

I guess an important question is actually what are the long term plans, as any of the options listed when not diy become very expensive very quickly, so if you don't have any major plans for big power in the forceable future just get it checked out properly and fix the issues it has without upgrading everything if however you want to mod it and make decent power then it's going to get expensive yet it's best to start now so not paying twice -

If I'm changing the oil pump on an rb chances are its also getting new bearings as a minimum so it's just so much easier to work on out of the car.and really compares to supporting the motor it's the same time.to just pull the engine out. Yet I have workshop acess so that changes things alot -

Yet that's just the machining work on my new motor I'll be building it. However as a workshop prob around 300ish for the head to be cleaned up, 300ish for a vrs and wouldn't be more than 800 in labour, so yeah anything over 1.5 and your getting seriously ripped -

For significantly less than the 5k quote you.got im getting a full service. Some porting on the exhaust side. Chemically clean, repair cam tunnel, surface grind, vct feed port drilled, valve Springs installed, then an engine block decked to 0 deck height. Bored, mains closed and honed, crank collar fitted. Crank crack tested and grind. And a few other bits and peices -

There's a set finish that mls gaskets call for, if darren thinks that works then it may very well. Hes built some nice rbs over the years. And currently has my awd sump for some modification work -
Unfortunately not far from the truth

Scott Black replied to V28VX37's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yeah to check block is straight after its cleaned for the new head to go on use a straight edge and ensure its dead flat, As for cam tunnels.if you just getting the normal minimum done they generally won't check(surface grind and pressure test) yet if getting it serviced they will. The block being a huge heap of cast iron will normally be fine unless it was a stupidly major overheat the alloy Blocks like sr20 are much easyer to warp. That's assuming your going to use an oem.gasket. If you wanted to use a mls gasket like cometic then the block surface won't be good enough. It's a bit of a pain and expense do it it all properly yet it's better to do it right the first time than to cheap out and have.to.pay to.do it right later anyway. -

Leak down test helps determine what issues the engine has as when you do it if the pressure leaks out the manifolds then it's valves. Sump it's going to be rings or pistons, another cylinder or radiator then it's.going to be head gasket. As if your getting oil Contamination in the cooling system yet not showing up on a Tk or litmus test it points.more to the oil heat exchanger than the head gasket, an extended cooling system pressure test can also help narrow it down. Although a big overheat normally does hurt the head a fair bit. -
http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/registration/get-nsw-registration/written-off.html that's the info there and it says on the page it's only for up to 15 yr old cars. So older cars should be OK
-
Is it going to be worth while getting a tune.
Scott Black replied to ruinned's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yeah somewhere around the 200 mark, depending on health of the engine. My stock airbox pushes 300 with no issue at all. -

Have you also done a leakdown test on the motor? -
Essentially you need to ask the insurance company for the salvage value of the car. This is what you need to pay them.to keep your wreck. If you choose to keep it then they pay you out the insured value less your excess less salvage, then you.need to goto the rms to get a form to fill out to apply for the right to repair it. Then have the repairs sign off saying it's done properly. Then get a blueslip. Then take the rms permission, the repairers sign off and all recipes to the rms to get it registered again. However there is still a small loop hole. The wovr will ignore most 15 year old or older cars and not record them as write offs. So that may or maynot happen
-
Unfortunately in nsw all write-off are non repairable, yet there is still a way

They normally get a rotten fish sort of smell if you run it without coolant for a while -

Radiators normally have three parts the top and bottom tanks and the core. The plastic tanks and held in by the core clamping over them with a rubber seal under them. Not a diy job though
