Subaru's Wrx And Mitsui's Evo Are A Cheap Imitation...
saff_cossie replied to Flynnn's topic in Victoria
Not all correct sadly. The RS500 was supposed to be because it represented 500 cars being built for homogulation, however only 498 have ever been sighted and where produced in a combination of Moonstone Blue, White and Black. The RS500 as a production car was introduced in 1986 on the roads. The Sierra Sapphire didnt have the same engine, it had a similar one as the RS500. The RS500 had a stronger 200 series block and 8 injectors on the fuel rail. The sierra Sapphire Cosworth didnt have just a AWD system, the 2wd variant that I owned was introduced in 1987 and preceeded the AWD system which commonly came into play in 1990. The 4x4 Sierra Sapphire Cosworth then preceeded the Escort Cosworth. Yes the Escort and the Sierra Sapphire 4x4 shared a lot in common including the floor pan. The Escort Cosworth is larger than a traditional MK5 Escort that Europe saw. RS200 - The nuts Lancia's, I don't know enough about. -
Subaru's Wrx And Mitsui's Evo Are A Cheap Imitation...

Good man Prefer the aesthetics of the sierra though (see below) Having grown up with these cars and even having the original sales literature from 1988 for the sierra cosworth, these cars are what forms my basis of opinion (sierras more so than escorts) on the 32 GTR in the other thread. These cars were formiddable and can certainly rattle a few people still. A guy from my home town has the fastest sapphire cosworth in the world at just over 200mph so there is no doubt they are animals. Mine was only about 270bhp but enough to enjoy. Sadly though these cars, even the youngest bar a few exceptions is about 10 years old now and require a fair bit of cash thrown at them to keep them in good nick. I have stacks of Ford and Cosworth magazines, brochures, pics etc so if you want to test your knowledge, let me know BTW - You have posted a German one on Rondells and the original sales brochure image. Couldnt you at least find an English one! -
Yes CAMS licence or AASA for DECA but getting CAMS is easier as it allows access to all of the SAU Vic events. Helmet, yes and fire extinguisher yes. Bonnet pins surfice, I think. Snowman could confirm though but I believe they will. Skid pan is great fun and we do that as part of our DECA courses. A map is provided with cone layouts that you navigate round against the clock in the morning and against a mate or other cars in the afternoon. You can also passenger with other cars to meet new people and see how they drive. SAU and WRX hold joint track days but WRX events in general are not open to SAU members unfortunately. You will find the hardcore rexers on this forum though Anything else, post it up

Happy Birthday mate, hope last night was good

It depends on what you mean by "test". Do you want to give it a top speed run, do you want to drive it hard, do you want to slide it around and get it out of shape in the right environment, driving courses? Top speed runs - currently nothing is specifically done for this by the club (track days certainly give you the option to hit high speeds up near your top speed) Driving hard - track days that are run with the WRX club. Some of these days (not sure if all) have driver training sessions for the day where you will be in a group with other drivers in the same position. You will have an instructor with you which is usually a club member with experience who gives up part of their day. There are a number of guys who do this in SAU and a lot of information to be absorbed from them. Sliding around and out of shape - DECA events, while they are not pushed as an event for intentionally getting out of shape, they are forgiving enough in general if you do. There are numerous videos and some on my youtube link in my sig. Driving courses - Kev from here runs courses with instructors at race tracks which by all accounts are very good with different levels. These are popular with members and I am sure some will post up on here. Good question to ask though as I am sure others are thinking of it too. If I have missed anything above, others feel free to add. As Al says, keep an eye on the calender that will appear too. Normally a Calder track day in January and DECA February off the top of my head.

The car will not need to rebuilt within the first week unless you are very unlucky or drive it very hard but it is something that needs to budgeted for. Cars of that age will be tired in general, suspension, bushes, components so be prepared. All things wear out eventually and on a car of that age, this is compounded. There will be good examples out there but they won't be cheap and just because the engine may have been rebuilt, doesnt mean attention has been given to other areas.

Maybe you just need to watch some good ol' short bus riding Wing Mirrors are called that in the UK. Lots of American influence here though with TV etc so that is probably responsible for some of the translation.

You may also need an IT security legal specialist by the sounds of it. If your case is that urgent, are you exploring other avenues than just a car forum in Victoria?

Maybe try Sarahb,

I don't fancy your chances based on your previous, even though there seem to be mitigating circumstances this time. I wouldnt transfer the car, its could be seen as an admission of guilt. You seem level headed and of the thinking "if you do the crime, you do the time". Can't offer much advice but I doubt they will come and take your car, my understanding of hoon laws are the car is impounded at the time. It would defeat the purpose coming to collect it a month later. Hope it works out and keep us updated.

Spot on the money. Having come from old (late 80's) performance cars before the Evo that are the same era as the 32, this is generally the case. They may not need doing immediately but is definately something that 15+ years on of performance driving, needs to be budgeted for. Factor in people who havent cared for them before (not everyone has the money to maintain one properly) and the chance is increased of it needing work. That said, ones that have been worked on, there are some stunning examples out there with several I can think of in the club. I looked at getting one instead of the Evo as the 33 GTR was top end of my budget but needed it for a daily driver and didnt tick enough boxes. Personally, I would stick with the GTST unless you can get a really good example that has been checked out by a specialist.

Sorry but that made me laugh! Nothing constructive to add to the thread except I am looking to get some kind of cat back made eventually so will see how you guys go.

I'm not sure Ash would agree................

Yeah Calder Park at the weekend could be worth checking out as URAS says. BP Laverton North have security cameras, I have needed them before, could be worth a call to them. Think it is Fitzgerald Rd. Details: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Dr...er-t189358.html

I would be surprised if this does stop crunching (assuming it the same redline gearbox oil I used in the Evo). This oil is awesome when the gearbox is warm but makes the gearbox crunchy and notchy around town while it is cold. To cure the crunching, I use Castrol Syntrax which is thicker and more driveable around town. Maybe different for skylines but didnt work for me as I also put it in for that purpose. As for where to get it, Jeff at Techsport supplied and put it in mine and I dont remember it being this much.

Exactly right The car I paid 1496pounds to insure was a 1990 Ford Escort XR3i that for an 18 year old was flash and fast, even my 1.8L pinto Sierra was that I had after it! My cossie was 1300 pounds 3rd party only ($3200ish) but when I insured it here, it cost me just under $1000 as a Ford Sedan. For this reason, as much as I think riced up lancers look shite (I own one!), I actually think it is better someone stick clear lights and a stereo in their car than have a powerful car for their first car. Have joined Leewang's group too. Appreciate the agreeance guys

This was something I suggested a few years back but it must go deeper than just power restrictions, they are already in place. Hopefully this is seen as constructive on this type of thread. I am from the UK so have been through this and was never on P's here. 1. Paying for insurance is mandatory that is directly correlated to you and your car. 2. a 17 year old (age for full license and start learning in the UK) cannot insure anything bigger than a 1.2/1.3 litre car unless you are a pro footballer who goes through a specialist company and will pay up towards the value of the car for insurance 3. the driving test has a 40% first time pass rate because the examiners are stringent and the test is tougher 4. Greater mix of weather for experience, I learnt in black ice, freezing fog, snow, torrential rain over a winter (can't be helped if not available here) It is illegal not to pay for insurance whether it be 3rd party, 3rd party fire and theft or full comp. Most companies won't insure a first time or young driver full comp for that reason. For some reason people think a 3.8L falcadore is a good car for a first time driver. The biggest responsibility and speed most new drivers have come across prior to getting their licence is a push bike! Most havent come from motorbikes or karts or had any kind of hazard perception training etc. Allowing them access to a car of that size and power first time out, is crazy to me. That said the Australian car market because of the years of building large cars, doesnt have the second hand market of small cars to just turn something like this engine capacity rule on overnight. I purchased a performance car at 18 after having my licence for 18 months in the UK which was a 1.6i (big for my age). I paid more to insure it 3rd party only at 1496pounds than the car was worth at 1100! It was still a front wheel drive car but the same as many young people I wanted it and paid the premium. Most people are deterred by this pricing, hence why you end up with small engined cars with plastic stuck all over them and big sound systems as they attract a lower increase in premium than performance. My point is, my first car was a 1.1L Ford Fiesta (similar to the Festiva but smaller engine) 1990 model. It was a 4 speed manual that try as I might on the UK motorways, wouldnt go above 80mph. Yes I made mistakes in that but never had an accident. It was essentially a lawn mower with doors that got nowhere fast but more importantly, it gave me mobility and the chance to gain experience in as lower powered vehicle as possible. A good quote I read on the Herald Sun site, freedom comes before experience.

Yeah thats the same as me. We were talking about this issue tonight and at speed, I certainly think it would unsettle my car, especially if changing lanes. I used to drive that stretch everyday to work so have been in all lanes multiple times. City bound isnt much better either.

Cool, thanks for the info mate

So in the cases of some forum users, by receiving a ban, it has meant you spend less time on the road under P plate licensing than if you had adhered to the law as your probationary period hasnt been extended?
-
One thing I don't know if anyone has noticed going along that stretch and the other way too, the road is very undulating. I can notice it at 100kph so this would be compounded at higher speed and different wheels front/rear plus possibly stock suspension. Whether the car has become unsettled on those undulations or as he has gone to change lanes on them.

Link didnt work first time then when I tried again the file wouldnt play saying Error! Looks like a mini on the screen with a cone though, any good?
-
If at least 2 people wanted to do DECA on motorbikes, could that be accomodated? Obviously similar to the drags in that you couldnt run a car against a bike. Just an idea............
-
In my experience (not personally), the length of the ban is added onto the duration of the P's. If you are banned for 1 month, that is added on. So in real driving time you are still having 3 years however you might be 24 when you get off of them. LOL at Ni too!
