  1. Car thefts are appaling especially when they happen to someone you know. Hopefully your mate has some luck locating the culprits or the car. All the guys who have posted about him having a GTR and not affording insurance, re-read the original post. He didnt have it because of his age. This to me would say he is on his P's and no one would legally insure him. Insurance or not though, this sucks big time.
  2. Happy Birthday mate
  3. Never a more accurate line has been written
  4. Too damn right its true but doesnt mean I agree ha ha! It is amazing how sports mad a country is and I like it. I have been at several events where within the first 5 mins someone has asked for the TV to be on to see the cricket. Beating the South Africans gives me a tingle but the Poms, I am not that long gone from those shores so shouldnt burn too many bridges!
  5. Whilst not involved with builders unions, I do get to see some of the transport unions actions and also the mindset of the various workcare bodies. All I can say is the balance is way out. We as a company are being milked by certain groups of staff who have the common knowledge amongst themselves that they can take months on end for injuries such as a broken toe (caused by horseplay at work I might add) and other minor injuries not caused by lack of responsibility from the employers part. Makes me sick to see this and to know I put in hours of unpaid overtime and have taken 5 days off sick in over 11 years of employment. From our experience Sydney is the most unionised state and causes us the most grief.
  6. I nearly agree with you there (except for the England bit! )but excellent points. I know its easier for me to saying working in woop woop but I live basically on Beach Road and it is closed for at least 4 days from what the signs say. I am looking forward to walking to the end of my street with a chair and watching some cycling. BTW James - English and Sharks is nearly true there as Nic's dad had me believe Dolphins were aplenty in the bay all year You should at least have utilised this emoticon with mention giong to the mansion
  7. Planning on watching a two wheeled event with Blaise and Rachel
  8. Sounds good. Mav and I were just discussing ideas for Saturday with it being a long weekend
  9. Crikey Ash, two threads in such a short space of time that are both useful and are longer than 3 words, now I am lost for words! Depends if the engine is going to be a focal point of the car, i.e the bonnet spending its days lifted at shows and not because the engine has caught fire. If so, use the engine as the base and use the rest of the body to pick details out. For example door strips/door handles/badges the corresponds with the engine. The red in James' pic is very nice and perhaps a shade even similar to Al's GTST. Metallic Morello Cherry is a personal fave but have no examples sadly. Look forward to seeing the finished product anyway.
  10. Well said Ash. Just use common sense to stay safe. Increase the gap in poor visability/weather and take that bit of extra time. If you would normally just pull into a gap that would be a bit tight in the dry, hold off for a bigger gap in the wet/poor visability. Another gap will come along and it might just take you an extra 30 seconds to get to work. And remember its not just about your skills as a driver, its about making yourself seen to other drivers out there so drive defensively.
  11. Tried that a few months ago with a couple of drivers but they couldnt locate a store en route
  12. Nice pics Really wanted to go this year but had to miss something to get away and sadly this was it. Should have stayed here this week as Queensland weather was crap for 4 days. Reminds me of UK weather I see the Telstar made it too! BTW - Shan are you abusing your moderator powers with that post count
  13. If the rusty old bridge is the one I am thinking of with the two cameras just before you go under it standing on poles, they the new ones are past that towards the city and look exactly the same but appear after at least one bridge, possibly two or more. HTH
  14. Not quite my thinking although I would really like to get out on track (did DECA and had a great time) but I would like a person or people with my kind of car that I can compete with. Its an auto lib RX so far from ideal but would like to get out for a play but dont want to get in the way of the rex's.
  15. Yep thats them, very obvious. On the poles next to the road not hanging from bridges etc.
  16. The new bypass is excellent and saved us a lot of time on the return trip (didnt use it on the way up). Came back along it when coming back from Hotham 3 weeks back. There are speed cameras on it not that anyone would need to know Gutted I am missing this one but roll on May B)
  17. Good to have you on board and to see you drive a nice car also. I can second what Ash has says about maturity. It is a great forum with an abundance of organised off street competition throughout the year and a great social events. B)
  18. Excellent choice for a first car. Helps you build your experience and cheap to insure and run enabling you to save up so in a few years time you can get something quicker if you want. Well done B)
  19. My mate lives a few km's away from there and sent the link through this morning. Scary stuff. He said it was all over the local news there.
  20. I like your thinking. At the time of getting my licence when I was 17 I was racing XC Mountain bikes. As a result I was not driving much but cycling a few hundred miles a week on the road. This gave me a massive advantage I believe when learning to drive but also something I have been able to continue on with now. As a cyclist I will wait in a queue as if someone has over taken me in a car safely, they deserve the respect for me to sit behind them. It is also a hazard overtaking cycles so why increase my risk further? Cycling/Motorcycling certainly does teach you a lot respect for the road conditions when you are that close to nature and the elements plus other vehicles. I learnt how to make myself seen to others, not sitting in blind spots. Gaps to leave when pulling out etc. However the majority of the motorcyclists I see on the road (and there does seem to have been an increase in the past couple of years) seem to ride like they are invincible. One big difference I should have mentioned from the UK. You are only allowed to pass on the right of a vehicle. Unless you in bumper to bumper crawling traffic where you could quite easily move a bit quicker than the neighbouring lane. That is a big part of the danger I see is undertaking as well as overtaking especially when looking for bikes.
  21. Good thread Having grown up in the UK and passed my driving test there, I was amazed at some drivers here. E.g. A driver is turning right in a right slip lane, yet will not indicate when entering the slip lane but will put his/her indicator on in the slip lane to signal they are turning right. Why? They are in a lane with a painted white arrow on the road saying you can only turn right. I dont need to know. However I do need to know if you are turning off the road in front of me. Motorways in the UK before every junction there are countdown markers, 3 lines, 2 lines, 1 line which represent the 100's of metres before the junction. Your indicator is supposed to go on at the 300 metre marker. Already read the ones who cant read the "keep left unless overtaking" The following is the worst for me and still scares me at times: Two lines or more of traffic are stopped at lights. A driver will drive up and at the last minute change lanes either with or without indicating into the other lane. Now when I was learning to drive, I was always taught to judge your braking distance when approaching a stop. This person has now at times halved my braking distance! What makes it even worse is drivers do it front of trucks. Imagine trying to stop a truck in that distance. It seems to stem from the learning though as I have watched several driving instructors directing learners into other lanes at the junctions. IMO that is not good practice and does not encourage respect for braking distance. When it rains - increase the gap, braking again is affected! Test is way too easy here and needs to teach proper driving. SKY031 - agree with most of your stuff, good points. Oh and the Asian comment someone made (sorry forgot who). I worked opposite an apartment block in the city for a year and it was full of Asians. None of these cars ever sped, clear indicating given, cars always kept in immaculate condition. Most were 20-30 year old male and females. If there is one race here that can be generalised as a good driver, from what I have seen, it is Asians. Also followed a number of them on my way home at different times and could rarely spot anything dangerous about thier driving. B)
  22. Had a guy at Brighton Yacht club approach me when I was showing someone my old Lexus. Seemed a bit odd as they are hardly an unusual car but he was nice enough and an older guy as well. Seems to be the older people from my experience with that and a couple of other cars I have taken to work. Maybe they are trying to relate to the younger people on a common ground or just interested in something they otherwise would not normally get up close to in the case of a skyline and wasnt released locally.
  23. Fantastic pics guys, looks a great day. B)
  24. Thats the very end of Beach Rd mate up at the Tasmanian Ferry. Very nice restaurant which you can see in the pic, The London.
  25. Whats the description then? Sorry to hear about that mate.
