Yeah its purdy. Bloody New Zealanders know how to make shit (as do plenty of Aussies). NZ plays a very big part in my motor for no deliberate reason- sump, inlet manifold, exhaust manifold, rocker cover fittings, plus some other little bits. Turbo oil drain fits around the engine mount which is sweet! Was a touch worried my measurements may be off but all good. -

Engine is off the engine stand and onto my k-frame trolley. Works a treat! So easy to move it around the shed. Once I finish what needs to be done to the gearbox I can bolt it to the engine and finish my little trailing jack dolley that supports the end of the gearbox and helps get the angles right for reinstallation. -
You're not acting like a child at all. There is a huge amount of financial, physical and most powerfully emotional/mental investment when it comes to building a vehicle. Particularly a vehicle that comes with such a massive pedigree. The build up of those emotions as you get closer to completion is huge. I experienced it with mine. I'd put in a hard 12 months to get it to a point where I had it booked in for the tune the following day. I dropped it down off the hoist for the first time, went to reverse back out to put it on the trailer and all of a sudden it made a god awful noise. Clearly I wasn't going to get my tune done the next day.... That destroyed me for a few months at least. I couldn't even look at the effing thing because of the emotions I'd poured into being shot down so instantly and brutally. So, I totally get where you're at but it'll pass. You just need to let the steam subside and you'll be good to go all over again, mentally stronger and more prepared for the next time it fux you over! 😂 Chin up mate, we're all looking forward to this being a distant memory for you!

Stick with it legend, all will be right in the end! We've all had our tales of woe to contend with, Skyline life is like that! I haven't really been burnt by any other workshop than my own! I WISH I had someone else to blame but unfortunately all fingers point back towards me as the cause of every last ounce of my grief! My car hit 10 years off the road just recently so think yourself lucky you've actually driven yours with the last decade! 🤣🤣 I was young when I bought it, now I'm a crusty old man!

Finally made a bit of time to work on the car today. Only a small job but it's something ticked off (hopefully....). I may still have to modify it which is the disadvantage of not doing it while the motor is in the engine bay. Lots easier to work on however! My TIG welds are a bit iffy, can tell I haven't done much welding over the last 12 months. Relatively happy with how it turned out, I just hope it works once I plonk it in the car! -
I'm astounded that they would want to re-use the same guide!!!!! And it still leaks and yet seemingly they're ok with that?? Yeah not cool. It's their responsibility to source and fit a brand new guide entirely at their expense. The least they can do in addition that that is to pay for the gaskets required to fix the issue. You've done them a favour by doing all the work yourself so they need to help out with the parts required to reassemble it all.

Another BK R32 GTR money pit...

Sounds like a plan! Yeah Shepp is OK. It's got it's problems but where doesn't! My first house was in Will's Street which was just off the Boulevard. It's a nice area. One smart yet dumb things I decided way back was to not deregister it knowing re-registration would be difficult going RB30. It means I've paid $7500 or so of rego without ever touching the road! Thank God they went up in value! I would imagine there would be some pretty interesting cars up in the NT! 🤣🤣 -
Another BK R32 GTR money pit...

Yeah it's tiny compared to the Precisions. Maybe they self regulate the oil flow a bit more? I'd imagine as much as the diameter of the pipe the path plays a big role on the speed at which the oil drains away. Too many tight bends and it will slow everything up. The corrugated flex pipe is probably a slight restriction but it is 19mm or so internal diameter and it definitely needs an element of flex at some point in the setup to allow for vibration and heat expansion. A cracked oil drain right next to a red hot exhaust manifold is a fire waiting to happen... -

For interests sake I measure the EFR oil drain at the turbo last night and it measures at only 12.25mm. I finally received the AN10 flex hose and it measures about 11.95mm at the thinnest point which is the actual AN fitting itself that is welded onto the flex section. I measured my AN fittings that screw into the adapter plate that bolts to the turbo itself and they're the bottle neck at about 11mm. I might as well die grind or have them machined out to match the rest of the fittings at 12mm or so. I'm making the bottom section out of 19mm stainless tube so it will have extra capacity to hold more capacity of oil if needed to give it time to drain away after a long pull or whatever. I'm going to turn down the boost a bit (the oil boost!) with a supply regulator and I'm confident that will be all good. Sorry to thread hijack, just thought I'd throw that in there! -

Awesome thanks mate. Flick me an invoice for the gasket and I'll stick it to the fridge. I'll buy you a beer if you're ever back in Shepp! 🤣 -

My AN10 fitting off the turbo I had drilled out to AN12 diameter. There’s plenty of meat in them to do it. There’s no pressure in the drain system so sealing not a massive issue anyway. I’ll see if the same can be done to the flex pipe when it finally turns up. -

Welcome to the 2020's! Should be an awesome car with the 6266. I think it's a well balanced turbo with good response at the sacrifice of a bit of top end (which apart from Insta who cares...). What are you hoping/expecting power wise, around 400-450kW or are they pushing more now? -
Pull AWD Oil Pan (GTS4 / GTR) while engine is in Car?
Shoota_77 replied to corbic's topic in General Maintenance
I haven’t personally done it but yes you could. Would I? No. It would be a very fiddly job and arguably not worth the effort. Have you ever picked up a GTR sump and diff on its own? They’re incredibly heavy and incredibly unbalanced making them really hard to manhandle in the best of conditions! Trying to lift one up through the frame rails and then try to get a few bolts started would be a nightmare! I would pull the whole engine (downwards) before I tried it. If you do decide to do it you will need to support the engine from the top and then completely remove the k-frame off the bottom of the vehicle. Let us know how you go! -

Been waiting on a few parts to arrive so been a bit slack. Powdercoated a few bits to feel like I was doing something. Oil baffles cooked a bit of hidden oil out that was hidden when i cooked it so wrecked that a bit but meh. Sump baffles- Front diff cover- Catch can- I started making my "arse jack" to be able to roll around under the transmission while it's sitting on the K Frame stand. A complete waste of time, effort and money but at least I recognise that! 🤣 Did my first "heavy" TIG welding as my MIG is out of action. A couple shabby weld to start with until I got the higher amperage dialled in. Still not perfect but good practice on thicker steel. Still MUCH prefer MIG for that type of welding. Just need to work out the height and weld on the legs and wheels. Then I can tick off another almost useless piece of workshop equipment. Once I powdercoat it of course... Tried to make up the PRP turbo drain kit but fark me it's ultra thin stainless tubing. Way above my skill level to weld that flimsy shit onto the AN fitting. Binned it and now sourcing some other similar concepts to do it myself. In other news, getting a pool! Don't have to sell the Skyline to get it, winning! But to please @Dose Pipe Sutututu I may still have to sell a child or 3 kidneys (wife can lift her weight and donate one) to get a Samsonas.... Or I could just be a pleb and row 5 gears like a real man! -
Are RBs worth building reliability wise
Shoota_77 replied to Blakeo's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
In terms of upgrades I'm glad I've spent double the $$ of what I originally paid for my car in 2012 as opposed to having paid double of what it's worth now. 🤣🤣 And that's me doing everything bar machining myself..... Hate to see a full build price for a fully external workshop built car these days.... -

Yeah theyre a bastard when they dont come loose.... They look like Ohlins coil overs to me but they normally have pretty clear Ohlins branding on them. -
What Duncan says or what I do is attach another battery to the charger at the same time (or just connect a jump starter to the battery at the same time and turn it on) as it needs a positive charge to "excite the diodes" within the charger and make it charge. If it doesn't come back to life after that, she fooked! Awesome to see your baby home! Don't you be whingin about it feeling wierd to drive, right indicators and so forth. I've been driving VAG's for the last 10 years whilst my shitter is off the road so imagine how THAT is going to feel (IF I ever drive it again that is.....). Skid vid didn't load either for some reason? Makes me think that car is now a garage queen. Pics on Insta, car shows and all that....
