I agree, very nice looking GT-R. Black engine bay looks great. Sorry but I might steal some ideas!

Obviously you're in Vic but where? I might be able to help. Mines not stock but has cat and is pretty tame sound wise. Let me know.

I also work in sales at a car dealership. To start with, you would all be amazed at how little we make out of a new car. Most money in a dealership is made through servicing and parts (counter sales only a small amount, mainly to service department and panel shops). The average gross (profit excludiung holdback (don't ask!)) that we make at our dealerships are a lot lower than would be expected. Think under $1000 most of the time. Obviously this varies each month and will rise when there are new models about and fall when there is an advertising campaign or the range is ageing. Every now and then we will do a fairly profittable deal ($3000-$4000) but VERY rare these days. We do a LOT of nil gross deals just to get numbers on the board. In the 12 months I've been with VW, avg margins have dropped about $500 per car. That's a massive drop. An example of how low margins can be is the VW Polo offer we just had. The base model at $16990 driveaway left $35 in it!! No word of a lie. what a joke that was. It just goes to show how aggressive the brands are at the moment because of how tough it is in the marketplace. Car sales are still strong but only because of the aggressive pricing and/or the abovementioned 0, 0.5, 1%, etc finance offers. Most of the major financiers - Toyota, BMW (Alphera), Esanda, etc will smash a bank finance rate. They specialise in them rather than trying to serve all sectors of finance (home loans, businesses, personal, etc) so are a lot more competetive so they don't lose their share of the market. I hope that gives some sort of insight into dealership life! Not all of us are like the redneck dickheads mentioned above. Some of us have regular training and actually care about our customers. We all have our bad days though when we get sick of getting our balls busted all day every day over $50. No one can cop that without letting off a little steam now and then. Some sales people just take it a little too far though...

There needs to be a "Transfer" button from the normal build threads to the motorsport build threads as I have no doubt many guys have set out on a "street build" which very rapidly turns into a track only car. Is that an option down the track for the evolutions? Can they just contact a moderator to have it tansferred (obviously only if deemed worthy by the mod!)?? Why is that the more you spend on your car the less you drive it? Am I the only one thinking that? Even more so once the car becomes a fully track driven car i guess. Hopefully I don't find out....

Rb26/30 Oil Pan & Head Drain For Street Use
Shoota_77 replied to coopeR32's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yes. The N1 pump has smaller gears than the standard pump. I can't recall the actual measurements but it's about 5mm or so difference. You need to order the right gears for the pump you have in other words. -

Every company that makes the collars has their own method and measurements that they're working off so will all vary to a degree. It only needs to be a few thou different to make the difference between being an interference fit and "loose". In an ideal world you would take your intended pump drive inner ring to the machinist and have him match the new crank collar to the inner ring to be a perfect fit. Even to the point of having to slightly heat the oil pump inner ring when re-installing the pump it so it slides on. This would potentially cause issues though when time came to remove the pump as it could get pretty well locked onto the crank collar once a bit of rust formed. Theoretically you shouldn't have to pull it apart too often though. That's entirely my own logic so feel free to rebuff! -

Crank collar and billet gears will definately help, mandatory as your car is a 32 with no doubt a short snout crank drive. I would highly recommend getting the collar custom made or at least try to get one that is matched to your pump. Every 26 crank snout I have seen has wear on the leading and trailing edge of the drive suggesting that there is clearance between the snout and the pump drive. No doubt with the harmonics causing a "rattling effect" of the pump on the drive this speeds up the wear on both the drive and the pump. -

Ok legend, while there is validity in some of what you say, you need to learn that just becase something hasn't happened to you, doesn't mean it doesn't happen! Whenever someone theorises an issue you have a tendency to ridicule them because "I've..never broken one" etc, etc. The engine in my car was already built so no, I don't know exactly what was done. It was built by a reputable engine builder/tuner in Brisbane so I can only presume it was done correctly. I also like how you make your own legendary presumptions- "And then what about the rest of the motor? Did you have it checked or just blame the pump? Was properly balanced? Crank snout and engagement 100%? Sounds like you don't know that either - so how you can say it "just broke" is... interesting." I could go on but it seems it would be a waste of time. You're the "most viewed admin of all time" so clearly the oracle of the RB. -

Mine "just broke" so I disagree. And I NEVER limiter bash. My engine had only done about 15,000kms with that pump in it before it went. It had never been on a track and only the odd caning (so I'm told!). You obviously got lucky. There is some sort of issue with them be it the quality of the material or a flaw in the casting that makes them weak. There's no way I'd risk a standard N1 pump again, it's not worth it. This time I've gone N1 pump with Reimax gears so fingers crossed...... -

For the $300 or thereabouts the rear head drain will cost why not? If that was the one thing that prevented your engine spinning a bearing would the $300 be well spent? Shit yes! With the sump, cheapest you'll get out of it is about $800 for a "proper" extension. Again, a small price to pay compared to the price of rebuilding an engine! Preventative measures (as opposed to performance boosting mods) are a bit like car insurance, you hope to never have to use it but FK you're glad you had it when shit turns bad! -
Mounting Greddy Oil Cooler Help
Shoota_77 replied to amnash's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I don't have a Greddy but I intend to mount mine left front up behind the bumper. I was going to make a couple of brackets to retain it there. I have a 400R front bar so it will sit directly behind the mesh air intake. Sorry but as it's a concept at this point I don't have any photos. My core is a 13 row (I think!). -

Shagged Exhaust Cam - Should I Upgrade Or Stick With Oem?
Shoota_77 replied to Booki's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I got my Tomei Type B's for $638 delivered so I'd go that way for sure. I'm told the Poncams will make improvements low to mid rather than top end which is what I preferred. Personally I think you're mad if you don't upgrade if it's similar in price. Unless fuel consumption is of concern... -
Bad Time To Sell A Rare Gtr?
Shoota_77 replied to JD_R33's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I'm amazed (and disappointed!) at how cheap a standard 33 GTR can be bought for at the moment. Unfortunately money spent on them is all down the drain. Lucky it's good fun playing with them and driving them cause it's gunna bite you in the arse come resale time! I'm in the automotive sales industry and it's not just Skylines that are suffering. Things are so competetive from a new car perspective that used car values are driven down as a result. Hopefully once consumer confidence comes back in the future things correct themselves a bit and go back up a bit. In answer to your question I would hold onto it until you find something else you REALLY want cause it's gunna hurt! -

Are you trying to offend me??? It IS a GTR!! Nismo dash? But yes, I remember being pretty bloody excited rocking up to the freight depot to pick it up. I drove it from the depot straight to the tyre shop and whacked a set of Nitto NT05 tyres on it. It had a set of rubbish Kumho semi slicks on it which were like constantly driving on tram tracks. Another thing I forgot to mention adding was a set of Tein Super Street coilovers which give it a nice low stance without being stupid low. Picked up my new (used) exhaust today courtesty of another forum member. It's massive overkill for my current setup but I'll just have to make the engine catch up to the exhaust! It's twin 3" stainless from front pipes to tips. It came off a race car so only has two mufflers but no cats so I'll rectify that before I hit the road. It needs modifying anyway as the front pipes are a lot different to my setup. I'm hoping just cats and mufflers will be enough to keep it quiet. -

Bought a carbon bonnet because A) a part of me likes the look of them, B) I don't like my current bonnet with the scoop poorly cut out of it and C) it was cheap! It looks pretty sexy as a contrast to the white paint. It has a bit of a bubble under it in one small spot but for the price it was a good buy. I disregarded the negativity of putting cams into a relatively mild engine and ordered a set of Tomei Poncam Type B's. Hopefully put a little bit more poke into the lower/mid range. Not fussed about top end particularly. I don't know how to use the bottom end properly let alone worrying about what it'll do full noise! -

Bought a new boot lid and spoiler last week to give the car a slightly more factory look. I'll keep both at this point so I can mix it up every now and then. The big carbon wing is a bit ricer but I still like it. Rolled the old girl out of the garage for the first time in a few months for a bit of a wash- Tightarse paint touch up- One of my other babies- -

Decided to have a bit of a go at some polishing- Thinking possibly wrinkle black for rockers, turbo pipe and intake manifold and polished coil pack cover. Still tossing it up though. Clutch was pretty much gone on the leading edge so tossed up for weeks trying to find a cheap option (!!) but ended up lashing out on a Nismo Coppermix Cpmpetition twin plate. Can't wait to actually use it, some point in the future hopefully! Can I just say the Nismo clutch is one sexy piece of machinery! It seems such a shane to bolt a tranny over the top of it, man it's hot!
