  1. get rid of those bubble indicators and it'd be even better
  2. you can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig
  3. Chalk up 300 ZX igniter #2 in the bin. That's one RB26 and two 300ZX igniters fried. All of which died while effectively coasting to a stop / negotiating a T junction. Getting about 50km per igniter bar the RB26 one that lasted about 800 km. LS coils would be looking good if there weren't so many RBs running around reliably with a Vipec and the OEM coil, whatever is causing it is fairly ferocious. Next step is to take one of the crispy critters apart to see of it's the same as everyone else's with a charred earth.
  4. Was there a miscle car show on? Lots of trick iron about, nice red 70s Camaro with a bug catcher style scoop on Limestone this arvo. Gunmetal R32 GTR with polished rim edges heading north into the city, white R32 4dr with R32 GTR grille near Duntroon heading towards the airport.
  5. When I wrote compliance I wasn't referring to complying the car I was referring to complying with the law re RB30s and rego etc. Confusing choice of words on my behalf. Also thought you were replying to Zebra not Darrin. Thanks for clarifying I see your point now.
  6. My R32 GTR rad sits on rubber mounts and has rubber mounts on top. The fan shroud is plastic. I'm not sure where I'd fine conductivity. Maybe I'm missing something?
  7. Forgive me if I've misunderstood your post but if you're suggesting that the stocker be installed for compliance purposes and the 30 be installed for driving duties, as stated in the linked thread: When you crash and kill someone let us know how the arse raping goes.
  8. Silver R32 GTR VSpec visiting the CrimTrac carpark. White R33 with black wheels @ ESP.
  9. I'm backing a bad earth since it was running fine for so long and then popped. Will rack up some km and see what happens.
  10. Thanks Simon I'm actually in Canberra, Ray suggested Mark only because of his experience. Opening the blown modules is on the to do list. I agree it's probably not dwell, the new module has three earth points and a dedicated heatsink so we'll see how it goes.
  11. mine is set at 1.7 m/s, Ray recommended 1.8 so relatively low.
  12. Dwell was checked by Ray Hall, all good. Appears the only likely cause is a bad earth. So now I'm running a new 300ZX igniter with a large heatsink, earthing paste on the underside, and the seperate earth wire from the igniter connected to a coil hold down screw. 30km so far so good. Awaiting analysis of fried unit later this week.
  13. Ok spoke to Ray Hall, extremely helpful as usual. Emailed him the map and he was on the phone 10 mins later, confirmed the dwell is fine, if anything a touch on the conservative side. Asked about the V88 and he said it would allow more dwell but he doesn't believe the V44 is the cause in any case so nothing to be gained by switching to V88 his view. He suggested it's most likely either a voltage spike, in which case the ecu would probably have been fried, or a poor earth, and to call Mark at Godzilla motorsport. Again, Mark was really helpful. He also suggested a poor earth.
  14. Dave do you think dwell would specifically kill the earth circuit in the igniter? BoostdBarge pulled his apart and in each case the earth circuit had gone. Soldered it up and all's been good for a long while. I guess the earth circuit works harder than the rest as it's loaded 6:1 every time a cylinder fires and with wasted spark it's even worse. So with excessive dwell it'd be under signficant load. DVS32R what circumstances did yours die under ie cruise, idle, boost etc? I don't expect there's going to be a mass of people with this issue, but a few is enough to suggest more than a coincidence.
  15. Thanks guys. Based on Simon's post I think Zebra's suggestion is a good one. I'll call Ray Hall tomorrow to see what they know. Started another thread to see how many people have had issues with Vipec and igniters. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Vi...rs-t340779.html
  16. G'day Just wondering if many people have had issues with frying igniters when using Vipec? Might not be a related problem but there's two I know of now and I'm trying to get a feel for whether this is common. Not trying to criticise the Vipec, I'm very happy with mine. I know igniters die from heat and age but I'm interested to see if there's a few dying when a Vipec is involved. Related thread here http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/R3...rs-t340484.html Thanks
  17. Roy, Stillen told me the only thing not AP was the bracket. If they're not AP it might throw up some availability issues. What's the difference between 7040s and 5555s? Neesan, Stillen offered to include a different pad compound if I wanted. Chris, wasn't suggesting you stop with the Evos sorry if it came over that way I'm really keen to see how it turns out and well done for sticking with it. Have a set of F40s I want to use with 355mm Falcon discs or the late Camaro, talking to Bosnjak in Sydney about price.
  18. no it's vipec. was running for about a year with the vipec in it with the oem igniter. interesting though.
