Diy - Restoring Faded Headlights
siu_loong_bao replied to siu_loong_bao's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
****Disclaimer: DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK, Every car's situation is different. You have been warned.**** Ok All, I have now 'perfected' my method of restoring plastic headlights without buying those expensive and ineffective Headlight Restoration Kits... For those who met me at the VIC V35 Meet, you would have saw how bad my headlights were, even after using the restoration kit...The yellowing was all gone, but the lights were 'faded', despite buffing with plastic polish...Undeterred, I did some research and redid the headlights....This time, they came up great. Have a look... Note: it was just finished, so u can see the surrounding hasn't been washed yet... Interested in restoring yours? Ok, I've put together this DIY, and this time, I have taken pics....but I did it on a Mazda 3.... Equipment: 1200 grit wet type sandpaper (cut a 50cm x 90cm piece - 1 piece per headlight) 1500 grit wet type sandpaper (cut a 50cm x 90cm piece - 1 piece per headlight) 2000 grit wet type sandpaper (cut a 50cm x 90cm piece - 1 piece per headlight) 1 bucket 1 sponge Duct tape Plastic Polish (around 50mL per headlight) Microfibre cloth x 2 Water rubber gloves (optional) Super strong arms and roughly 40mins - 1 hour per headlight... Ok...Here are some shots of the headlight b4 restoring... For comparison, here's the other light, which is unaffected and in like-new factory condition... Steps.... 1. Do Not Buy any headlight restoration kit - don't waste your money like me. 2. Tape up the paint work and sorrounding with duct tape. Duct tape is very very sticky, so before you stick it onto the car, stick it onto your cotton clothes to get rid of the stickiness...Lightly stick them on. The tape is there to protect your paintwork, and nothing else... 3. As the headlight was not that badly oxidised, I skipped 1200 grit sandpaper and went to 1500 grit. Soak the 1500 grit sandpaper in a 1/2 bucket of water for 5 mins...wash the headlight with a sponge, then sand in 1 directions for about 10 mins..make sure that you sand evenly, in 1 direction only, with plenty of sponged water to be dripped onto the headlight when u r sanding... TIP: Sanding times differ, but a good guide to the sanding is to feel the sandpaper after 10 mins, if the particles on the paper are not as rough (or used up), then move to the next step. 4. Wash the headlight with water. change the water. soak 2000 grit sandpaper for 5 mins and start sanding, but this time in a perpendicular direction as step 3. Sand for 10 mins...make sure that you sand evenly, in 1 direction only, with plenty of sponged water to be dripped onto the headlight when u r sanding... 5. Wash off with water and dry....Your headlights will now look very dull....and you should have a very worried look on your face! LOL... 6. Pour a 20c piece worth of plastic polish onto a microfibre cloth and start rubbing in a circular motion....you will need to concentrate on a small area, say 10cm x 10cm area at a time. Rub until you arms feel like dropping off!!!! You would need to keep rubbing for about 10-15mins with 2 - 3 coats....In between the coats, buff off with a clean microfibre cloth to check the clarity... You should end up with the headlight looking like this... If it is hazed, unclear or you can still see the scratches caused by the sandpaper, then....wait for it..... . . . . . . . . . . . You need to repeat the whole process again!!! If you feel like an idiot, then don't worry, because it happened to me too...I didn't sand long enough and had to redo it all on the V35....Keep trying and don't give up... Moderators: When can we have a DIY section for V35s only??? Is this post eligible to be a sticky? -

V35 Sedan - Dark Blue Colour
siu_loong_bao replied to siu_loong_bao's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
I just bought some reverse sensors and need to spray them to match my car colour. Where do I find out the point code or paint colour? As far as I am aware, I know V35s come in white, black, brilliant silver, dark silver, ocean blue and dark blue...mine is the dark blue... Thanks in advance. -

Hahaha..one dirty phrase comes to my mind after n15m0 said "show us ur spread"......"Show us ur t.i.t.s.." I can remember a student yelled that out to the lecturer in a Physics Uni class in 1997.... -
BenzLe... And you thought I was gonna post that comment! I kept my mouth shut, but rs73 went and told everyone how silly you were...LOL... Once I get my 2 x HID kits, halo kit, and frosted parkers, I am gonna bake my headlights and once the technique has been perfected, we can all have the baking day....hehehe. Any interest for my factory HID?

Also, if you want to do your front fog/haze lights (located in the highbeam reflector housing), then you'll need some T10s... I haven't done mine yet, but this is the light I am talking about: -
Hi All, As some of you have seen on the VIC meet day, I was very happy getting my internal bulbs replaced with SMDs. SMDs are much brighter than LEDs and are the next generation technology in diodes for white light (equivalent to 6000K). Please note that I am purely wanting to help you out on pimping your ride so I am setting up this Expression Of Interest for SMD White Lights (hopefully resulting in a large batch order group buy). Obviously SMDs cost more than LEDs but it is well worth the money to get brighter lights. I previously did a few cars with LEDs and they were crappy...Do you own research. After fitting out my wife's Mazda 3, my V35, my MX5 and the rest of the family cars, I have found a very good supplier in China and will enquire about a large group buy order (depending on the amount of interest). I know for a fact, that if you have a sedan, you'll need: 6 x 31mm festoons 2 x T10s 2 x T5s (depends on if you have the footwell lights installed by the dealer). Here are the pics of my bulb replacements...very bright (all 6000k white light)! 1. Map lights: 2. Front passenger door underlight: 3. Front driver door underlight: 4. Rear passenger lights (left passenger one shown only): 5. Front passenger footwell light: 6. Front driver footwell light: 7. Rear licence plate light: 8. Boot light: Please note that all the lights are the one colour - approx 6000K white light.... This order will be restricted to white SMDs of the following types only only: 31mm Festoon - containing 6 SMDs each bulb (see pics 1, 2, 3 and 4). These are about $9.20 each delivered to me currently. T10 - containing 4 SMDs each bulb (see pics 7 and 8). These are about $4.00 each delivered to me currently. T5 - containing 1 SMD each bulb (see pics 5 and 6). These are about $2.70 each delivered to me currently. I know the above prices are cheaper than eBay (and cheaper than Jaycar), and the more that we buy, the prices will drop further...To save money, they will be posted to me, and I will pack them in jiffy bags and send them off to you. If you require LEDs, you will need to buy elsewhere as I refuse to arrange an order for inferior products. Please count and check you requirements as it's different for V35 Coupes and later model V35 sedans (maybe)...Obviously, this EOI / GB is not restricted to V35s only.... email me if you have an enquiry: siu_loong_bao @ hotmail.com Nel. UPDATE: After reading the rules on GBs, please note the following: 1. I am not the seller. 2. These bulbs are direct from a Shanghai, CHINA factory who make heaps of LEDS, HIDs, SMDs, etc.... 3. Cut-off date is 31st Aug 2009. 4. Once they arrive, you can come to west side of Melb to pickup, or they will be posted in a jiffy bag, and postage will vary according to you location. These are pics of the SMD bulbs:

Hi All, For a start, it took me a fair amount of time reading this forum and other sites to find out info regarding bulb sizes and types for the V35 sedan. So far, I have replaced all my interior bulbs with the next generation LEDs called SMDs which are heaps brighter than the normal LEDs. So from experience, this is my list... On the 2002 V35 sedan: Interior Map lights - 31mm festoon Front door underside lights - 31mm festoon Rear passenger seat lights - 31mm festoon Rear boot - T10 Optional extra dealer fitted front footwell lights - T5 Exterior Licence plate light - T10 Side bumper blinkers - T10 Headlights Low beams - D2R (mine are HID, so unsure about the stock halogens) High beam - Dual H4 fog/mist lights (located within the high beam reflector housing) - T10 Feel free to add to my list if you have a coupe or an updated sedan. Note: This post is not for comments, but to ensure people don't need to flounder around to find the right lights for their V35s.

heheh.... i know the VIC cops are focussing on their speeding campaign rite now with various models of cars (a Golf GTI was shown on the 9 News the other day). So unless it's quite a new car, I'd rattle off my speil about how it's an offence to impersonate a Govt or Law Officer and also ask him to show me his badge!!! Oh, whilst we are on the topic of the Law, guys/gals - be careful of the new cameras installed near bus stops, etc in district shopping centres. They will take a pic of any car stopped at a bus stop and a fines notice will arrive in the mail. There are a few in Footscray, VIC.

missV35...wow, "there's a ladeey in da house" sings me~~~~ SKiZO....twins? hahaha...unless you are Asian, I highly doubt it man...Yeah, I noticed ur V35 was dark blue and a sedan~~!!! Not many of these dark blue sedans in Melb...in fact, I have not seen another V35 on the road until the Meet yesterday....I've got quite a few bling blings on mine...just to make it 'special'....but then again, who am I kidding? The Mrs says "ur next car must be 4 doors, no turbo, and auto"....hence the purchase of V35 sedan..."cry cry cry"....

the blue one... sure, it's cheaper in TW....hopefully, he's got the one with the right antenna adaptor. -
some guy on the Aristo forum found an interstate shipping company that could ship for $55....from Bris to Melb...he was selling his WALDs 19" with tyres. Also, I would assume shipping is not going to cost more than $150 from Gympie to Melb....Like I said, if you really wanted to sell them, ask for a shipping cost from Gympie to Melb 3023 and you 'may' have yourself a buyer - ME!!!!

mate, read my for sale thread...i got one for sale...not hard at all.

yeah...Arab....i was in Dubai for 2 years....but i ain't no Arab.... I luv pork... xtc - you have one installed....this is what the FM band expander does...so when you are connected to Fox FM (Melb) at 101.9, the stereo will read 91.9.... Japav, as far as I am aware, this is it - nothing else required. This is becos of the Nissan antenna plug. Generic band expanders are like $20 but have a different antenna socket, so I am assuming the Jaycar one is generic + u need to buy the adaptor to convert the antenna socket. It's not a hard job of getting it in....remove centre console, get access to the back of the head unit and plug it in. Then solder/attache the red wire to the cigarette lighter +ve. if anyone is unsure, I suppose you could ask Chris Rogers.... -

Laptop not included in price! -
I bought this to install into my V35 Bose unit (only goes to 89.9MHz)....With this unit, it will increase your reception frequency from 88MHz to 108MHz. But now I have decided remove my whole setup and install a new system (still slowly buying bits and pieces), hence no need for this. The unit is brand new and I can give you the receipt to show I paid $30 for it. All I want is $30 plus postage (which is about $5 to VIC). Pickup from west side of Melb is also ok. If it doesn't work, you can call the seller (who sold me this) to arrange a replacement for you, since I bought it from a store. As you can see in the pic, it looks like a simple task. But please note, the unit needs to be attached to the +ve wire. I was intending on attaching it to the cig lighter. If you are not good with wires, get a professional to do it for u. I could do it for you as a favour today (to be repaid later) if you r in the west side of Melb...but no guarantees! LOL... Unit is made in NZ... PM me or call me: 0 4 0 3 3 4 7 7 3 9
