  2. Hi My 1995 GTSt has developed an irregular idle of between 500 to 800 rpm. At cold starts it idles fine above 1000rpm, however, after a minute or so , the above would start to happen. Once it has been driven on the freeway for a some time and come to a stop, it will idle fine at 700 to 800rpm. Once warmed up, it has only a few times idled irregularly. A review of same topics on this site have suggested to clean the AFM, clean AAC, clean idle control value , clean IAC & check for leaks.....thanks for your suggestions. I have recently had a new AFM installed and it ran fine for months....so I do not think it is this and I have checked for leaks. Can someone advice what AAC and IAC are abbrevations for? I can then look to clean them. What I cannot work out is why sometimes it will idle fine and other times irregular??????? If something need cleaning, I would have thought the idle would be irregular all the time. Would it be an electronic issue? What controls idle speed? Cheers
  3. Thanks guys for your advise....will removed it and hear how it sounds
  4. Hi I have a 1995 Nissan Skyline GTST. On the inside top cover of the standard airbox , is there what I think is some sound dampering material? If so, how do you remove it without breaking the plastic nipples that hold it in place? Just in case one day I may need to replace it. I presume there is nothing adverse in engine performance by removing it, just more air induction noise. Cheers
  5. Hi I have a noise coming from my turbo. My mechanic said he checked the compressor shaft play and he there was no excess movement. Is there much work involved in checking this as he charged me nothing. I am not mechanic, however, I would think it would take some time in dismantling all the piping around the intake side to check for shaft play. Cheers
  6. Thanks guys for your suggestions....will have a look at those things
  7. Hi My 1995 Skyline GTST has developed whining noise from the turbo when cold and driven on boost. Not sure how long the sound has been there as l do not normally drive on boost when the engine is cold. The noise disappears once the the engine/ turbo have warmed up. The car still has full boost and drives like normal. My mechanic has checked the turbo...there is no smoke, there is no oil & there is no compressor shaft play either in/out or up/down. . The noise appeared after a track day. The turbo is the factory turbo.. Any thoughts? Cheers
  8. Thanks for your suggestions...looks like the dash is coming out
  9. Hi The tacho in my 1995 R33 GTST has gone crasy. When I start the car the tacho spins all over the place for about 4 seconds, then either settles way pass 9000rpm, or gives a false reading or sometimes reads true. My mechanic thinks the dash needs to be pulled out and sent away to an auto electrician to fix. Does anyone know what is going on and how to fix it. Thanks
  10. Hi Thanks for you replies, most appreciated. I now have peace of mind that all appears normal, however, I will keep a keen eye on it next track day. Thanks again.
  11. Hi Can someone please explain what my oil pressure gauge is telling me. I have a 95 R33 GTST which I recently took to a track day. Whilst lapping around the track, my oil pressure gauge was sitting around 6 or slightly above on the factory oil pressure gauge. When coming into the pit area, the gauge was showing 2 and stayed at 2 whilst I let it idle for a few minutes. When I went out for my next laps it started out at 4 (where it normally sits in day to day driving), went up to and sat at around 6 or slightly above whilst on the track and back to 2 when coming back to the pit area and at idle again. This happened for two more sessions. On the drive home it sat constant at 4 and has done so since when driving it daily. At idle, once warmed up, it used to sit at 4 also, however, it now goes down to 2 and then up to 4 once driving again. The oil I am using is a 10W50 and have slightly more oil in the motor to cover any oil starvation issues when cornering and braking. Normally I would be using a 5W30 oil but my mechanic thought the 10W50 would be better for track purposes. Any feedback would be appreciated.
