I'd be curious to know the % of disability welfare people and age groups vs somewhere like UK or Canada. There seem to be a lot of able bodied people around who seem to choose not to work... I know a lot of people can't work, but them seem to be a lot who can. I guy I used to know had short term memory loss from a motorbiking accident, was on the pension and occasionally do labour cashies. His stories of his previous jobs just sounded like he was being a difficult ass hole who would argue with people, so was easier to not work...
