265/35/18- which tyres have a 94+ load rating?
Jamezilla replied to Jamezilla's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Merli: What tyres do you have? Are they the same size as me... Thanks for the info on the Michelins. The 265 don't mention a load rating though. Any idea on cost per corner? -

The placard is a compliance one. Curious to know what the Nissan factory one states... Anyone got one? Found some Hankooks that are 97. Not sure what they are like though... K104 -

I know is't a bit full-on... but that's what the number says. I'm below the number. The cop was even surprised - he said 93 is really high anyway. Problem is - if I have an accident, insurance can be null based on this. The tyres are illegal on my car. Problem is - I can't find any tyres that aren't -

On the placard on the drivers door jamb - 94 index or 670kg rating. That's on a 1997 GTR. Not sure what a GTS has, or even a 32 R? I went back to Bob Jane (who recommended, sold and fitted the tyres) - every 265/35/18 in their list was rated at 93. Even P-Zeros. I need to get new tyres now (these ones not even 6-months old) - but can't see what ones to get. If I go taller/wider, they are the incorrect size for the rim... and I get a defect. Again. -

Anyone. Anyone. Bueller. -
Sorry to not put this in tyres thread... but it seems no-one looks there. I was defected for having 93 load-index tyres (brand new) on the GTR. They are Sumitomo HTR Z II at 265/35/18. Every other tyre I can find in that size also has a load-index of 93. Are you running the same size tyre as me? Are they above 93 load-index (670kg and up)? What are they? I need 4-new tyres

I received a defect last night for having (brand new!) 93 index tyres instead of 94 as noted on the tyre placard. The tyre size is correct for the rims. There was no other problem with the tyres - have less than 5000km on them and are regularly rotated/balanced/aligned. I never even noticed the placard requirement - and Bob Jane Prahran recommended and fitted the tyres (Sumitomo HTR Z II @ 265/35/18). Bob Jane are trying to help me out, as they sold me the wrong items (they didn't notice the placard either) - but it seems that everything in that size has a 93 weight index. Even P-Zeros. What are other people running on 18 x 9.5" wheels? Is this normal or am I just unlucky?

I used to love Hard 'n Fast at Chasers - every Wednesday. Is there anything like that anymore? Play stuff like Chems, Beastie Boys, Prodigy... Or am I showing my age?

Hmmm - can't say I'm thrilled about all this. I know it's a common thing and I should probably get used to it... but I'm peeved that I really did do the right thing on both counts, and now have to sort all this crap out. The latest: Bob Jane can get one brand at the correct size: Yokahama V550 - but they are around $600 a pop and want a 'contribution' to the price from me (Sumitomos were $400). Will speak to them in the am to discuss further. Not keen on forking out more coin on tyres that I should have got in the first place... Even though Momo state the steering wheel complies with ADR10, the TMU (spoke to this arvo) say that the clearing of the defect is up to the inspector... and even if 'he' says it's OK, they can defect me on it again. The only real way to pass correctly is to refit a factory wheel. Anyone got a nice GTR airbag wheel? He mentioned too that they are under pressure from various bodies to crack down on every little thing at the moment and that the are particularly targetting imports. But, to their defence, they do have grounds for this 'defect' note. The metal bit on the wheel would certainly cause more damage to my noggin than a padded one, and yes, the tyres are under-rated for the vehicle, which could be seen as unsafe. Worth saying too that the officers involved have all been very civil and reasonable to deal with. It is - after all - their job. I'm just cross that the reasonable 'faith' I had in the roadworthy of the car when I bought it (the P-Zeros on the car at purchase were also 63 rated), and of the expert recommendation of the tyres from Bob Jane will end up costing me time and money. Seems a roadworthy certificate isn't worth the paper it's printed on...

Yeah - true Sammi... But at least I would have deserved that one
-
Yeah... the 'cat' thing... better get that fixed I think

Cheers guys. Snowman: Thanks for that. What brand are yours? Not sure if a 45 profile will be too tall though. GTT-R: Mine are 650kg. Every other 265/35/18 is 650kg. So silly. James: Was I there when you went past? Was about 9.00pm I asked him about how to get the defect removed for the steering wheel - he said to show the Momo catalogue to VicRoads to show it never was padded, and I'll be fine. So why defect me on it in the first place? To prove what? Such a waste of time. Worst thing is the sticker. So embarrasing having it on the car - especially for something I didn't really do. I bought new tyres - even had an alignment last week. I would have assumed they were OK...

In Soviet Russia, Lada owns you! And Snyper: That's a Lada Samara 'savanne' convertible. Rare and exciting.
-
Haha - the H-pattern is still my favourite. They also got me for not having a padded centre on my steering wheel - and that I should fit it. Spoke to Momo today who said "it never had a padded centre" and faxed through ADR compliance confirmation. So stupid.

I got done last night too In correct weight rating on my new tyres

I have joined the yellow sticker club  Went through a booze bus in Williams Rd, Toorak - was asked to wait at the end of the queue by the blue XR6 TMU candy-car. I blew a big fat 0 on the breath-test BTW. They did inspection (I was the only car to be stopped). Pods OK as they are caged and secure. Intercooler OK as it is standard. Blow-offs OK as they are standard. Ride-height, rim size, gauge mounting, exhaust noise... all OK. EPA letter coming as I have an EBC. Thanks for that. Better check my cat is working OK But oh. What's this... My new tyres (Sumitomos - less than 5,00km old) have a weight compliance index of 93. The ADR compliance for a GTR says they need to be 94. That and my steering wheel doesn't have a padded centre. I went to Bob Jane this morning (who recommended, supplied and fitted the tyres) who were very apologetic - and hadn't EVER had this come up before. A look on their catalogue showed all 265/35/18 tyres are rated at 93. Even $750 a corner P-Zeros. While we were looking, the officer who booked me popped in to check and see if he was correct in his findings? Seems that the 93 rating is very high - why the car required 94 he wasn't sure. Too late for me though - got my defect sticker. Seems that the only way to get 94 or greater rated tyres is to change sizes, which then compromises the factory-stated rolling diameter, which could lead to rubbing on the guards at full-lock - DEFECT, or not complying to the vehicle standard (upsetting speedo readout etc) - DEFECT. Glad to see these laws have been well and truly thought out. So... Bob Jane have admitted fault and are going to replace my tyres as soon as they find something suitable. Either way - my car has to be off the road after Friday arvo (they only gave me 3-days to fix). So I'm a bit annoyed. Something to be aware of I guess... Oh - and my Momo Millenium wheel never came with a centre-pad and is ADR compliant. I have a legal notice from Auto-Tek (Momo distrubutor) stating so. They also have NEVER had this come up before. What a waste of time. Out of interest - what weight rating do people have on their tyres? What does the sticker (drivers door-jamb) say is required. Am I just using an unlucky rim size? Worth noting too - that I still recommend Bob Jane in Prahran. They've been very good about this. Even the cop was surprised - that's where they take their cars.

Heh - I knew you liked them

Some good points there 33. The weather one is something we need to work out - as it is beyond control, and can make or break a cruise. I'm sure it will be discussed on beerday, ah... Sunday. The 'Skyline exclusive' thing - I say no. Not at this stage of the game. Lots of people with other Nissans, imports, or red Calibras are members here and keen to be involved. So - no exclusivity. Sammi can even come in the WRX if he has it in time However - due to the nature of this 'club', most cars are Skylines. Last GOR run we did had over 30-cars - and I think all were Skylines! Also - for camping: I'm in!
-
Yep. I'm in that for sure
-
OOh - a crazy Cefiro. Yeah. So... Oyabun... how about it? Use the black one, it has a sunroof

Very sad news

Aw - very sorry to hear. Hope it turns up OK - and the theives get caught.

Sure do! 18" x 9.5" - 265/35 tyres Just got swanky new locknuts too - so they'll be staying on the car a while longer
-
Yeah - good point Doxx. Girlfriends, boyfriends, best mates, parents, siblings - all welcome.
