  1. holy crap, no way that would fit in a lhd s chassis! looks like its a pretty advanced manifold especialy for the time..... wonder what a new technology turbo would do on a rb20 equiped with that manifold.
  2. i run the hks cast manifold on my rb20 and havent had a problem with it.
  3. from what i remeber they are a bit much...... check out the website for exact prices. also since the s chassis/rb swap is quite popular here stateside check out www.racebread.com or www.nicoclub.com or www.240sxforums.com for info on cramming a rb into a s chassis.
  4. incorrect. the bottom one goes to the boost source (intake mani, charge piping after fmic....), and the top goes to the boost controler. ext gates work just like internal gates they use pressure to open at the right time, so pumping pressure into the top will only keep the gate closed. *edit* i just realized that you were speaking in relation to that picture, and in that case you are right. however conventionaly i think of the ext gate being set up so the valve is pointed to the ground.
  5. i have the buddy club spec 2 exhaust on my rb20 and while it sounds awesome it is very loud due to the fact that its nothing more than a straight pipe and a *tiny* resonator. got a bit annoying as a dd, but it does have a silencer to quiet it down should you decide to retain you hearing.
  6. yeah the rb20 fits fine using the skyline xmember however the rb25 doesnt...... most ppl here stateside use a mount kit for a decent fit, as the skyline xmember just causes too many problems when boltin in a rb25.
  7. ya thought about using mckinney motorosports mounts? www.mckinneymotorsports.com very well built items.....
  8. from what research ive done on line it seems that using an external gate and routing it out to atmosphere will actualy allow for hp gains. i know some one on a supra forum was tired of the noise of the external gate and rerouted it and found on the dyno he had lost 30whp simply by rerouteing the gate into the exhaust. and its not unusual to gain silly hp via a proper tune, local shop here fuel tuned a blown mustang and made 550whp, not shabby, but when they went back and did some ignition tuning it jumped to a hair over 700whp.
  9. bah who needs filters . change oil every 1k mi, and hope you dont drive thru dust.
  10. well heres a run when the car was still untuned and before i melted a hole in a piston. if i can get the turbo to spool up sooner (a rebuilt motor should do it in much less time) then it will have a much better powerband.
  11. not sure if you would want to do this but OBX (read: dodgy copy parts) here stateside makes a turbo manifold which is an EXACT copy of the trust one, might be worthwhile picking one up if you are going to be hacking it up anyways as they are fairly cheap to be had and to me dont look anyworse than a trust unit. i too have wondered about the efficiency of the hks unit but it seems to be working fine so no need to change it imho.
  12. i run tomei pro cams (260/8.9) in my rb20 and they have been forking mint. super smooth idle with the occational hickup, but man you cant tell the diffrence. power gains alone were worthwhile they really opened up the top end of the motor, but thats assuming you have a turbo that can push air at high rpms.
  13. roy, ive got the hks cast mani on my rb20 and havent had a problem yet with it.
  14. hot damn, some one really needs cams .
  15. ive had worse sucked into my motor, we had a duck call taped to my bov (factory one) one evening and by the end of the night it had disintegrated. was good for many laughs, drove by the local movie house and scared the living crap out of ppl.
  16. the sensors are the same, they read the same scales just diffrent plugs or coloured plugs. im using one from a z32 tt as rb parts arnt common here stateside.
  17. some one needs cams.......
  18. hey all. since the old girl was apart i figured i would take some steps if neccisary to keep the engine lubed properly when on the track. are there any inherent problems with rwd rb engines and their pans, and if so what can be done to improve lubercation to prevent oil starvation? i know that SK has reccomended running oil restrictors to keep oil to the head at a minimum as well as installing an external drain line from the head to the pan, but are there any other points i could do? i just dont want to be on the track, swing the car round hard and find that ive eaten a few bearings. on that same note does anyone know about swinnging pickups for the rb, i know that ive heard it mentioned a few times.
  19. gt35r may be a touch laggy, i would go with a gt30r as it works well on my car...... also the motor should take it but a poor tune on mine did her in, oh well live and learn i suppose.
  20. why wouldnt the turbo fit? not like anything externaly changed, altho turbo sizing may need to be changed due to increaced displacement.
  21. magnaflow's sound great on rb engines, buddy of mine has one on his 20 and it sound mint. nice deep sound without being overly loud.
  22. rb20 rebuilt with a larger turbo should provide some significant fun, not to mention with the money saved on a rebuild rather than buying a rb25 you will KNOW the exact condition of the motor and can go from there. when you buy a used motor you are taking a gamble, it might last it might not its hard to say. i swapped a rb20det into my s14 as here in the us we got shafted and got a 2.4l which makes 155bhp, and even tho i blew the rb20 i have no regrets and am in the process of building it back up.
  23. fair enough SK, but i had planned on fitting a oil pump drive collar to the crank while it was out, it couldnt hurt any........ another reason for the n1 pump is for the slightly higher pressure, since the poor rb20 got stuffed with no oil cooler an external one is to be fitted to this new motor for longevity's sake. roy - my gt30r is the same as a hks 3037, and belive me when she gets going it is an insane blast to drive, im anxious to see what she will do once i rebuild it with proper compression...... boostn32 - the l20 rod bolts were a proper fit? hrmmm i may have to look deeper into this.
  24. ive got a set of cp pistons in my room to suit my little rb20 and i must say they are quite mint and the piece of work.......... nice pistons and are LIGHT compared to most forgies ive fondled.
