Yeah it was a decent hit, but on purpose. It was on of those situations where I had no where to go. He went in very hot and crossed from the outside to the inside then slid across to the out side again where I was doing a run down the outside. Remember we are on the otherside of 200 KPH going down that straight. Ash

I believe the R32 GTR still holds the top speed at bathurst of over 300kph. The Mines car is a road car converted to time attack and it runs on treaded tyres. A V8 supercar is a purpose built race car with virtually no original Holden or Ford parts, unlike the Group A days in the 1990's where they were based on modified road cars. (Look at the VE Commodore Supercar, the rear doors are even cut shorter to fit V8 rules!) Having said all this, I belive the Mines Gtr with SLICK TYRES would be faster around Bathurst. To give an example, I race at Barbagello in a Series 6 RX7, we are doing mid 61 second lap times, the V8 supercars are doing 58's, thats 3 seconds per lap difference. The series 6 is running on 225/50/16 treaded R comp tyres (similar tyre as Mines would use) the V8's run slicks, If you put the same slicks on the Rx7 the lap times would be very close. The RX7 was a road car converted to track car with the normal mods like roll cage, suspension, brakes and HP abour 400 rwhp. It is nothing special just well sorted. The V8's are good for what they are, A big heavy car on a smallish tyre, they are reliable and consistant, they run fast laps at Bathurst for 6 hours. Dont forget they Banned all turbos because they were embarasing the V8's on their home ground. If Nissan built a GTR to race Group A again the V8 supercar would see its tail lights for about 5 seconds then it would disapear unitil the GTR Lapped the V8 again. It would be a genuine 450rwhp as are all the front running cars you see in the footage. I would say its a R33 GTST gearbox, it is definatly a PPG gear set ash -

Our Racing At Barbagello Wa

Who did you email? There are 2 categories racing in that footage, the Mazda incar footage is a series 6 RX7 running in a category called "Street Car" For more info on Street Car see www.scrawa.com Street Cars are based on sports sedans but with many restrictions including weight limits, rim size, R comp tyres only and many other restrictions. They are ment to be much like a road car, however "Street Cars" are very fast. The guys running at the front are about 3 seconds per lap of a V8 Super Car and thats with the Street Cars racing on treaded tyres!. The other category is Improved Production Cars (IPC) CAMS recognise the IPC as technical regulations 3J Touring Cars IPC is based on a production car with modifications. IPC is on of the fastest growing categories in Australia. The cars are closely matched and the racing is great. The lap times are about 6 seconds slower than a v8 Super Car. All turbo cars in IPC must have a 36mm restrictor on the intake of the turbo and 2 x 27mm restrictors for twin turbos, this limits HP to about 300 at the wheels, but with masive torque. IPC is a national category, they have large grids of cars racing Australia wide. For more info on IPC visit www.iprawa.com there are links from this website to other IPC websites Austalia wide There is more footage from available from the above links. If you are keen on either Category contact me and I will help you on your way Ashly -
