  1. Sorry to sound arogant but why would you do it. Must just have a love for the Magna I guess.
  2. I was thinking the same. At the moment it is the Evo that is the weapon of choice however with the increase in weight and the decrease in the WRX's weight (assumably the STi will follow suit), the tables might turn.
  3. Hey all, Just read Motor's test of the new Evo X. I was quite shocked to find out that power is to remain at 206 kw while torque increases to 422nm from 400nm. They did some rough acceleration testing (to the dismay of the Mitsu officials) that showed that it was very similar to the previous Evo. All the technology has been retained and somewhat improved. There was a lot more to the article however in summary it seems as though it is not the revelation I was expecting. Sure the appearance has changed for the good however with the added weight and no more power performance is expected to be retained at Evo IX levels. I am no Evo fan but do acknowledge the cars to be amazing performers. I am personally disappointed and so too will enthusiasts in my opinion.
  4. This thread is making my head hurt. We are comparing a race car from 16 yrs ago to the extremely restricted race cars of today. The GTR's of old were serious bits of kit for the day however time has moved on and there is way more technology in a V8 race car than the R32 GTR race cars. Do people not know that the V8 supercars are run to a very strict formula. They aren't given a clean sheet of paper to work from. Their engines are rev limited and the cars cannot weigh less than 1,350 from memory, two very important areas that will affect a lap time. In addition they use a control tyre and when a control tyre is used there is no incentive for the manufacturer to make the fastest tyre possible. They will most likely supply something that they know is reliable, consistent and easy and cheap to make. Are some people talking about road cars and others race cars? Do some people think that the supercars closely resemble the cars Holden and Ford make for the road??? If we are going to start talking about the new GTR don't forget that HSV could bring out the 7.0 ltr beast that's used in the top of the line Corvette. In relation to the bathurst lap time when did they change the set up at the end of Conrod Straight, if after the GTR's day then it makes their lap times look even worse. I don't mean to come across as a GTR basher as I love the car, it's just that I can't believe how one eyed people are about a certain car. I'll stop my disjointed ramblings now.
  5. Yes yes yes I realise I aggravated him ..... to the nth degree obviously. I've learned a big lesson, not to assume people react proportionately to the circumstances.
  6. Hey all, Three days ago I was driving along when I noticed a black Magna VR-X absolutely flying up behind me. It was a two lane road so it could overtake me however there was a Z3 in the other lane. The Z3 and I were staggered so the guy in the magna took the chance to make it through the gap. Actually he didn't have a choice as he was going to fast to stop. He made it through the gap which was lucky because the gap was pretty small and closing. He passed me doing around 120 km/h.... in a 60 zone. I pulled up behind him at the next set of lights. His lane took off slowly so I overtook. I thought "I'll slow him down" so after overtaking I kept in line with the car in the left lane preventing him from getting past. I only did this for say 5-8 seconds and then pulled ahead and went back into the left lane. I then took the next left and while taking this corner the guy in the Magna locked up his breaks while changing lanes and he almost went up the gutter doing so. I thought to myself what a wanker can't even drive. Soon after thinking this I realised that he hit the breaks to cut me off so he could abuse me. Mind you this is all occuring on a major street in Perth. I look behind in my mirrors and see him reversing and doing a u-turn in order to come after me. The Fight of Flight decision making process was quickly decided and I decided Flight was the best answer so I quickly went down a side street and sure enough he was following me. I was going pretty quickly and continued to do so. I went around the block 2 times however he was gaining on me. My 200m lead was now 100m. Unfortunately I was in my 1 litre Charade at the time and the 38kw at the flywheel weren't really doing me any favours. It's funny what goes through your head in these situations. It was at that point I thought "what can he really do if I just keep on driving". The fuel tank was full so I thought that if I just keep driving he will need fuel before me and I can get away. My objective was therefore to avoid places where I had to stop such as traffic lights so that he couldn't get out and abuse me. So I started to drive slowly, he caught me and followed me slowly, revving his engine and all that. Then he overtakes me and cuts in front of me diagonally and parks it. I decide to reverse so he reverses after me. I stop and so does he although he almost hit me again in the process. It's a bit of an anti climax however, I realise he has left a gap so I take off up the inside and as I'm going past just stare at this guy. He was about 35 or something like that and pretty mad. I was able to take the next left and he got caught up in traffic and I think he gave up. The blood was pumping for quite a while after I got home. What's wrong with some people? In a way I realise I provoked him a little but surely that's not a normal reaction to that situation after all he was the one doing twice the speed limit and almost took me out in a big way. So if your in Perth just be careful of all male Magna VR-X drivers, he probably carries a gun with him now days just to prevent his prey from getting away. lol. Cheers PS - I thought these Magna's had ABS however it obviously didn't as the skid marks are still there today.
  7. Not sure about the mechanics of it all however my car has the same sound. Took it to a mechanic who new nothing about skylines who said that it would not be an issue.

    New Gtr

Hi Scathing, Not sure if I am reading this correctly, are you saying that there are no race cars that choose the gear for the driver. If this is what you are saying then I have to disagree. F1 cars a few years ago had automatic gear boxes. After one or two years they were then forced back to manual gear changes. Sorry if I misread it. On a different note my Golf GTI uses DSG and I absolutely love it. Amazingly quick, 3 thenths quicker to 100km/h over the manual box and it stays in whatever gear I choose, as it should. Cheers
  9. I'm going to play devils advocate to the skeptic and say that is by no means an average sound created from an aftermarket exhaust.
  10. Just read in Wheels magazine that it won't be coming to Aust because Nissan Oz has not launched the Infinity branding over here and it must come in as an Infinity.
  11. Nice cars. They have stuffed up the 80 - 120 km/h times though, maybe they meant mp/h??? A Golf GTI does it in 4.4 secs and they are quoting 7-8 seconds.

    Good stuff. Thanks

    The New Gtr

Hi guys, I'm a little in the dark on this one. Originally the press indicated the GTR was to have electric motors at the front wheels. Is this still expected or has it been dismissed? Cheers
  14. if you are in WA try HBF for insurance. It's amazingly cheap for me though i am 8 years older than you. Go for the GTR just make sure you get it looked at closely before buying it. I bought my GTST when I was your age. It cost me equal to one years gross salary. It was quite a leap for me given how frugal I was at that age however I have never looked back and enjoyed every drive since.
  15. I partly take back my previous comments about the new GTR being unable to keep up with the current 997 911 turbo due to a lack of torque. Simply put I doubt Nissan would release the car until it could keep up given that they have made it clear that the 911 turbo is their benchmark and that they have been testing them back to back at the nurburgring. To release something that is inferior after all these claims and time would be diabolical (spelling? I have never written diabolical before)
  16. The anchorman was awesome. Honestly one of the best movies I've seen.
  17. This is a sore point for a lot of skyliners however here it goes, there is a lot of doubt as to whether the R33 used to set the record at the nurburgring was a standard car, same goes for the R34 time. I'd personally like to think that they were standard however I and many people have some significant doubts. Ok so when you were talking about a lack of performance for the boxster you were simply referring to straight line speed. Good to see you acknowledge it as a good handler. In terms of keeping up with traffic I'm not keen on revving my reasonably loud car to 4,000 - 4,500 rpms just to keep up with falcons etc who easily keep pace with a couple of thousand less revs and a lot less noise. At the end of the day I can easily keep up and pass the majority of traffic however to do so would require a heap of revs and noise. That's where I love my new Golf GTI. it's quiet and with torque building so early it is so much easier to keep up with traffic.
  18. Nice quote. So the Boxster despite winning Motor magazines performance car of the year and many other awards is actually a performance slug. Very interesting!!! I take it performance to you means acceleration only because this is the only area where it would lose out to a modified GTR or Evo. I think you've missed the point about taking off from the lights. It's more to do with keeping up with traffic than beating traffic. It's pretty frustrating trying to keep up with Falcons and Commodores by having to rev it to 4,000 - 4,500 in each gear while they lumber along at 2,000 - 2,500. Torque makes a huge difference in this situation.
  19. The fact that the video exists is funny for my liking. Anyway sorry for wasting everybodies time, I guess I must have a strange sense of humour.
  20. What do you mean? Some people take life a little too seriously.
  21. Hey there, Here's a great video: There's just so much to laugh at. Such as the point of the vid pre Veyron or the fact that he chases it or the amazingly slow overtaking manouver on the truck or .... Funny thing is I would have done the same thing even if I was in my charade.
  22. Don't mean to hijack the thread to make it about golf's, though I am currently obsessed with them in the same way that I have been about skylines for the last 10 years. Anyway I just saw in Motor Magazines PCOTY 2006 the following: R32 Golf 0-100 km/h - 6.3 secs 1/4 mile - 14.5 secs @ 157.5 1 kilometre - 26.4 @ 199.0 Golf GTI 0-100 km/h - 7.0 secs 1/4 mile - 14.9 secs @ 157.7 km/h 1 kilometre - 26.8 @ 200.9 km/h Seems like there isn't too much in it from a straight line performance. If you ignore the 4wd launch of the R32 the times would be quicker. Lap times around Winton were well in the R32's favour 1.44.04 versus 1.45.72. Apparently the GTI has too much understeer on track. I'll get over the Golf thing shortly I promise you.
  23. Weight is 1,364 kg's. They only produce 147kw's so power to weight isn't that great. I have however learnt that power delivery is just as important as peak power and in this case makes for a reasonably rapid corner to corner car. I just try to enjoy what I have even though there are much faster cars out there.
  24. I second the M3 option. My only concern would be ongoing costs of maintenance. Whether it's true or not, many have informed me that BMW's are very expensive to maintain. Something to look into.
  25. It's an interesting point you bring up. Sorry if this is off topic though have you ever driven a R33 GTS25T? Prior to buying one I didn't realise the lack of torque when compared to many other cars. Mines relatively standard and has moderate noise levels. I find that to keep up with traffic I need to rev to say 4,000 in every gear. At this level of revs my car is reasonably noisy. I think people look around at me thinking that I am racing them. On occaision I think it gives the wrong impression of skylines as people think the driver is trying hard when they are not. Getting back to my question, is an Evo worse than an R33 GTS25T for torque? Now that I have a Golf GTI I am absolutely loving the relaxed nature of the engine as peak torque is available from 1,800 revs. I'm not sick of the DSG system yet whowever I'm only 3 days into owning it.
