Not sure whether anyone has made mention of this (I haven't read all of the thread). Some of the times put up for eastern creek are surprising. I saw a GTR do a 1.55 which is the equivalent time to the time done by a brand new SS commonwhore in Motor magazine. The GTR had a few mods too (suspension and engine). I'm surprised the GTR is not significantly faster. I know the Holden's have heaps of power these days (for stock cars) though wouldn't think their suspension and braking would be that good. I guess they had a professional driver do the laps so that could have saved a couple of seconds combined with the fact that it is not their car so wouldn't be as worried. What are your thoughts?

Replacement tyres of equal quality
Smurf posted a topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
At the moment I have some Bridgestone Potenza RE117's (i think that's their code). They have lasted a while and I have been happy with them. Given that they are no longer made, what would be an equivalent tyre (from a performance point of view) and how much will the replacements cost. Thanks -
WOW. I've ben following f1 for a long time though wasn't ready for that explosion. I thought they were reving it at the start. oh how i was wrong!!!

who is winning now? i can't work it out. also, how modified is the Whites GTR. From memory they make their own brakes don't they.

I'm fron newcastle too. sooo many skylines here, which is good. I am currently considering making a few mods to my R33. It's pretty much stock apart from exhaust and pod. If anyone in newcastle has a few more mods more than mine, it would be great if they could take me for a spin. The reason being, i'm not sure whether I want to start modding it. If 25kw from say a powerfc only makes a small difference then I'm not sure whether I want to do it. cheers

ignorant. how? opinionated, yes. my point, was that i don't think that WRX bonnet scoops should be placed on Skylines. simple as that. how am I ignorant? probably best that you do not respond as it is just frustrating me.

I was joking. i didn't call 000, that was a joke too. I know my cars quite well. it was a stock R33. didn't even have an after market exhaust or after market wheels. don't get me wrong, I don't mind the odd venting in the bonnet though think it to be a little ordinary when someone places a WRX scoop on the bonnet around 20cm from the windscreen. Firstly, the car most likely didn't have a top mount IC. Secondly, why would you want a Skyline to look like a WRX. I like WRX's but they are two totally different cars. I don't want Ferrari tail lights on my R33 (though I wouldn't mind the Ferrari in full). lighten up evo.

Yesterday I saw a WRX scoop on a R33 GTS25t. What is going on? Do people not know that WRX scoops belong on Subaru's, Lancers and Mirages. So I quickly dialed 000 for the ambulence to help me recover and the police to make an arrest. Just in case you wondering, I'm still a little ill. I've been told by the paramedics that it can take weeks if not months to get over such a shock. W out.

0-100 times R33 vs Ford typhoon and V8s etc
Smurf replied to benl1981's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
your kidding me!!! 250 rwkw and finding it hard to pull away. I thought with 250 you would easily do it. there goes my plan (one of many) to add say $2k's worth of mods to get up to speed. I would need to spend $5-10k to get 250 rwkw wouldn't I?????!!!! I once under estiamted the v8's. when my friend gave me a ride in his dad's clubbie. it was the one with the 5l motor with 195kw @ fly@. This was back in 2000. Then a year or two later his dad bought a Gen III holden with 225kw and I thought it was pretty quick. Just pulled from 1,500 revs. Something I wasn't used to. I respect them, just don't like them. -

I am kind of bitter about how easily the Holden's and Ford's pull these days. I am tempted just to get a charade, save on fuel and forget acceleration and handling. Maybe I should get over it too and just enjoy my car for what it is. -

From what I have read, the R33 GTST (I assume you are not talking about the GTR), does 0-100 in 6.2 and 1/4 in 14.37 (from memory). Not sure if these figures are accurate. I sure don't feel as though my car does 0-100 in 6 something (only mods being cat back exhaust and pod filter). I think you would have to have a few mods to beat the current v8 Holdens and Fords. Don't get me wrong, I'm not fond of these cars, in fact I would never buy one. It's just that they have that much torque that to keep up off the line you really have to give it a bootfull. Maybe I need to get some mods and then i would feel differently. -
Hi, I have a R33 GTST. Just wondering whether I am better off getting a whiteline kit or getting say some coil overs from Tein. Looking to spend around $1.5k at the most. Any other thoughts would be great. Thanks

when my car is on empty i can only put around 40 litres in. from 40 litres i get around 250 - 300. so I guess if I was to run it to empty (assuming it is 65 litres????) I could get around 400 to 490. most of the time i drive very conservatively.

Noisy pod (!) Is this a silly question?
Smurf replied to aus_gts25t's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
mine is noisy too. my friend thought he had some induction noise in his N/A car until he heard mine. i like the noise also. the sound of air in the engine....it's what turbos are about (as well as the power and the...............................) -
Hi, I have a s1 R33 GTS. It has factory body kit. Very few mods, wheels and exhaust only. Although I don't think it looks particularly sporty these days, I kind of like the look as there is no damage and the lines are very clean. Just wondering, what do people think about getting a GTR style front bar only (I feel the need for the large gaps rather than the conservative wide body camry look). I would get shiny black mesh, which I think would look good with a white car. Would this just make it dodgy looking. Like those fun boys in their look nothing a like lancer "evos". Would the front bar hang lower than the side skirts and rear? Also, is it possible to get a GTR fron bar that looks pretty much identicle to the one on the actual GTR. Most of the ones I have seen only have a few more holes in them. Who sells quality body kits. Cheers

Hi all, I need to replace the pipe that runs between my air conditioner and the cabin. I have an R33 GTST Series 1. I went to an Air con place and they want to charge me $300 for the part (including re-gas). Is this reasonable. if anyone has one of these parts spare please let me know. I know this is unlikely. If anyone knows of a place that has heeps of nissan spares please let me know. Cheers

Hi, I currently have a R33 GTST with pod filter and 3.75" cat back exhaust. Is it worth adding a Power FC and dump pipe without getting a FMIC? Or is this a wast of time? I would like to get a FMIC though I don't want to cut the original bodywork. Also, does anyone know any good tuners in Newcastle NSW? Cheers S out.

I was reading on another website that indicated that a 200SX is easier to get power out of than a WRX. I would have thought they would be similar. Secondly, how do they each compare to getting power out of a RB25DET? Also, does the computer severly limit the amount of power you can get out of a RB25DET. This is what a tuner told me and proceeded to try and sell me a new computer for $3k (installed). He told me that the std computer will limit the boost and keep the mixture rich. Any comments. If this has been done before, just ignor me. Cheers

Hi, I have a R33 GTS25T with minimal mods. HKS exhaust from cat back and pod filter. I spoke to a tuner who advised me that if I was to spend $5k then the best thing to do would be a new ECU (cost of $3,000 tuned), FMIC ($2,000) and dump pipe for $400. Does this seem reasonable and logical? Is $3k for the ECU good value. Would it be just as good and cheaper to get a GReddy e-manage or something like that. How much additional power can I get from a different ECU alone? Is it possible to get more power while increasing the fuel efficiency? Cheers.

if it's real, look at how big the brakes appear...baseball mits.

Hi, You always hear about the hp of F1 engines and CART engines. I've heard anywhere between 800hp (approx 615kw) and 950hp (approx 730kw) for F1 engines and 750hp (approx 577kw) for CART engines. Any idea the level of torque these engines have. I think someone said a couple of years ago that F1 engines have around 700nm. I guess torque isn't as important due to the low overall weight. Has anyone have some info they can share. Note: All hp/kw figures are at flywheel. Cheers

I meant to say torque isn't as important as power for F1/CART. Correct me if I'm off the planet.

Does anyone now what sort of difference there would be in lap times between say an R33 GTS25T and R33 GTR, in stock form around tracks like Oran park or Eastern Creek. I know there would be a huge difference, however I'm just curious. Not sure whether this was the right section for this thread. S out.
