cheap compliance places in sydney
sav1 replied to midnight's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
yeah, i'll second richard. Grey imports does excellent work and their prices are good! -
mine is doing the same, anyone got any info on how to test and set the tps. i did a search but could'nt find anything useful. i remember coming accross something a while ago but i can't find it again.

For those guys who recently registered their imports in NSW, how did you go about it, did you : 1) pick up the car from the complience shop and drive it to the RTA to get it registered(do i need an unregistered vehicle permit?) or 2) Collect paperwork from complience shop, then go to rta have car registered then back to complience shop with plates and rego sticker. Just trying to work out the best way to do it

Just got of the phone with kips(kiwi's insurance company) about claiming my damage that occured in transit. They faxed me through there report of when it left to when it arrived here. Surprise surprise their system didn't pick up any additional damage. Don't know how the damage to the spoiler and front grill got there though Shipping companies would be the only people i can think of that would have wrapped chains around the spoiler to hold it down. Anyway i rang back the insurance company as their was damage on the car that i knew of when i purchased it that wasn't even on their report. When i purchased the car i knew there was a small crack in the front bumper that went from the nismo extra air ram things up to the grill between the headlights. The crack is pretty obvious, so their system cant be to accurate. The woman was very helpful anyway, so i just have to chase down the auction report and get a couple of quotes. i'll keep you posted as to how it goes.

Was probably mine, it was delivered from greenacre to annanadale last thursday. Nathan @ grey imports rang me yesterday, seem the fellow who owned it before me disconnected the abs, but left the abs box in place, the remaining brake fluid has leeked out of the disconnected abs, eaten away all the paint which has then allowed rust to do it's stuff. Have a hole the size of a fist in the floor pan needs patching. Apart form that nathan said its in good shape

Anyone shipped with Kiwi Car Carrier
sav1 replied to Bepo's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
yeah, just shipped with kiwi on prince no.1, saw the car for the first time yesterday and am a little disapointed looked like they used chains or lashes of some type to tie down the car front and back. looks like chains around the area where the spoiler attatches to the bootlid, the paint is all chipped and cracked on the pylon things, looks like they did the same through the grill area as quite a large area of paint has been removed from this area. both these areas were not damaged when i purchased the car. Will see how insurance goes -
Just went over to the complience place to check it out. it's in better condition that i expected. The badge wasn't stolen the previous owner replaced the standard gtr badge with an aftermarket badge that is just an 'R'. Gotta love how japenese love to ruin original equipment with aftermarket crap to be a little different. Looks like the shipping company wrapped chains or straps around the two pylons were the rear spoiler meets the boot to tie the car down as there are some pretty bad paint scratches around there. But apart from a good wash and polish its in pretty good shape.

My car is arriving today It is being delivered straight to my complience shop. Had some major stuff ups with trying to pick the thing up from brisbane. The transport company tried to pick the car up on 3 different days, but the dick at the gate of the wharf kept saying that the car was not released, even though i had the papers, my customs agent, the shipping company and i even rang the wharf directly who all said it was released. everyone seemed to know this except the guy at the front gate. Eventually i had i guy from patricks call the fellow at the front gate and told him to release the car. The transport company was really good about it, they didn't charge me for the waiting time on the 3 occasions they had to visit and and patricks waived the storage fees cause it was their f#*k up. The transport company said everthing looks in good condition, no damage/theft except for the GTR badge at the back which someone has tried to steel and broken it!

Anyone shipped with Kiwi Car Carrier
sav1 replied to Bepo's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Apparently kiwi use to transport vehicle to your door, but since january 05, they will either transport it to their depot closest to you for an extra $150 or you can organise your own transport and they will give you a $250 rebate. I booked mine with autotrans who are delivering straight to complience shop. -
they are 2 different cars, look at the rim colour
-
gtr rims are 5 stud, zed rims are 4 stud, so you will have to change hubs(not to difficult there are conversions around for zeds) Problem is going to be the offset, zeds have a very uncommon offset(cant think of it of the top of my head) . I've got a 260 coupe, had to have custom 17inch simmons made for it. but since upgrading brakes, i've changed the offset slightly so now rims have to be modified again cause are hanging slightly outside guards. Anyway maybe possible for u to use spacers(illegal though) So when do you expect her finished. My zeds nearly done(7 years later) got a VG30det fitted in her.

Riverside: I think you will find that the reason that you have no trouble is because you live in queensland. You guys are lucky cause kiwi stop off in brissie, but no other port in australia. So most major car manufactures would use other shipping lines to bring in their cars,Companies that ship to all ports in australia. And all the people that are having problems with shipping are from cities in other states. Toyota(or whoever it is) is getting preference at the moment in shipping cars to australia and because kiwi only go to brisbane and NZ they would not be as full. I'm importing with geoff too, and i bought my car in january this year and it was due for import in october, but kept missing the boat. I have been totaly happy with his service and relise it is not his fault and is an industry wide problem. Most people outside of brisbane are having probs getting their car

I'd rather ship with kiwi, even if it costs a couple a hundred dollars more. i was just reading their website and their shipping fees include insurance with covers theft of parts etc, damage, sinking etc. So i'd rather pay that for piece of mind. No other companies offer insurance as standard. If for example a ship sinks with your cargo on it not only do you lose the cargo but the shipping company may hit you up salvage costs etc. (remember hyundia lost a whole shipoad of cars not long ago, so it does happen) so i wouldn't complain too much about the extra costs, it's probably worth it. btw seems everyone has been told their car is on prince no.1 arriving Jan 14th, i've had my car booked on ships since sept, keeps getting bumped off so i'm not holding my breath at the moment, wont get excited till i have the B/L in my hot little hands
-
yeah geoff just informed me that my car is booked on the ship to arrive is brissie on jan 14th, Prince No.1 the ship is called i think. I have already contacted cgl a while ago about being my customs agent and sent through some forms for them, should i continue with them or am i better to use a brisbane agent? As i have already sent some of the forms through cgl will no doubt charge me for the 'running around' they have done so far.

Can someone explain something to me - my car has been pre booked since september and keeps missong ships, does this mean it has been sitting on the docks for about 3 months? If this is so my concern is that it is getting covered in salt water from the ocean spray and probably slowly rusting away/ruining paint work. like everyone i paid for a car cover but i bet once the car is moved from storage they never bother to put the cover back on. doesn't look like it is getting on this month so will probably sit around for another month.

DEH aircon update
sav1 replied to cowie165's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
I'm going with cgl as well, i questioned them about the fee. i mean really i wrote the letter, and faxed it to cgl they simply would have refaxed the letter on to the deh. simple as, whats that about a minutes worth of work for some one at cgl. not a bad minutes work is it when you are making $150. And of course they never mention the fee at the time of sending cgl the letter, it just appears on your bil. But hey what can you do, the have you by the short and curlies. I though about kicking up more of a stink about it, but no doubt cgl may 'lose' some of my docs (ie deliberate go slow) and delay my car even more
