tripsteady replied to Snowman's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
just an update , i put the anti squeal shims on the back pads only(as a user above pointed out that he replaced the pads int he rear and that solved the problem) The squeal is basically gone unless I drive very very hard. Very happy now Thanks gsl rally ! -
Tyres you use(d) and how u would rate them

well weekdays to work I dont drive hard...since well theres really no need to....I do want to give it a boot now and then and want to have the confidence that they will be up to the task so even in stop start traffic with no real driving hard , the tyres would warm up? is constant contact with the road all that is needed to warm up? apologies for the noobish question , after weeks of researching its between the t1r's and the ku36's and dunlop s9000. Having trouble getting my hands on t1r's though but the ku36's are in abundance. Just worried about its wet weather performance when cold. ss 595's - to many stories about how bad they are in the wet. and since this is the reason im replacing my current ziex's, dont want to take the chance ku31- good tyre but as pointed out , at that price point , they are better tyres out there rsr's - high performance road tyre that requires heat to work well.... ad08 - as above falken 452 - f*ck you Falken -

alignment was done when i got my coilovers and then done again today when I raised it....seemed fine as the car wasnt pulling either right or left. Wear on the inside is okay...not running alot of camber(just the camber that automatically is there when you lower your car) not looking to spend more then a grand for all four tryes (265's rear and 235's front). Had my heart set on the ku36's but i heard that because they were a semi slick they would be crap in the rain until they warmed up. And since alot of my driving is daily stop start traffic , they dont really get a chance to warm up. but as you pointed out they arent a semi slick...so do they require heat to work well? not much , very little camber(not sure exact amount)...im so confused about the 595's.Ive read amazing reviews in this thread , then I go over to boost and hear what a bad wet weather tyre is for ver 10 different people. Since I have a decent amount of tread on my ziexs , the only reason im purchasing tyres are so I am able to drive in the rain like a normal person without shitting myself everytime I see any corner.....so I HAVE to make sure that the tyres I buy are wet weather capable... -

Falken Ziex ZE912 265/35zr18 97w Power : stock... Dry : 6/10 Wet 0/10 Im pissed of. Very very pissed of. How the hell are Falken Ziex even legally allowed to be sold being this bad in the wet? Did they do NO testing at all before they released this tyre??? This tyre isnt just bad in the wet , its downright f*cking dangerous. Ive already span out two times going very very slow. Ive had $100 tyres that came with the car that had almost no tread that fared twice as well in the rain. its like they went out of their way to make it as slippery as possible in the wet Today Kia's and Camrys where turning faster then me.Seriously. I ever so slightly tapped the throttle at the lights when taking of and the wheels just span on the spot. I was shitting myself all the way home , having to take each corner 5km/h.... selling this f*cking tyre should be illegal. I dont drive in the rain because of this tyre....its almost imppossible. I know Falken makes other good tyres but just for releasing a tyre this bad im boycotting them and never buying a Falken branded tyre again. F*ck you Falken. F*ck you with a pogo stick. -

ok its the tyres if you look on the Tyres you use(d) and how u would rate them youl see that the ziex comes up again and again as so bad in the wet that its dangerous... f**kn hell ,how are they even allowed to sell tyres this dangerous? It rained again tonight , took it really easy but I could feel the tyres where starting to lose grip. I put my foot down ever so slightly when at the lights and the rears started to spin on the spot. Camrys and kias where taking a corner way faster then me and most where overtaking. This tyre is so bad its embarrassing, there should be a sticky in the tyre section to never ever EVER EVER EVER purchase any Falken Ziex of any model.Ever. F*ck you Falken. -

This is a daily driver , I do about 15 000km a year so looking for the tyres to last me about a year or so. Looking to get about 10000-15000 km out of these tyres Looking to spend around $900 all up for front and rear -

Car : 1997 Skyline R33 Gtst Suspension : Pedders Coilovers Power : 230rwkw Tyre sizes I am looking for : F 235/40/18 R 265/35/18 Phew...ok I read through all 57 pages of this thread and have gathered what seems to be the opinion of the majority of those who have posted here. Please help me clear up any misconceptions. I am looking for a tyre that will be street ONLY use , no track events...ever. In saying that i want it to be extremely grippy in both the dry(and especially wet) but last a fair amount of time. Looking at the last 56 pages my options so far are - Toyo T1R - consistently the tyre that seems to be the best cost , durability and wet / dry weather wise. never a bad thing said about it Federal SS 595 - what I was going to get until I started reading reviews talking about how bad they are in the wet, Are they bad int he wet? Federal 595 RS - amazing performance but is a semi slick , and I have a street car so durability is a factor Dunlop SP9000/Dunlop Sport Maxx - only heard good things about this , not as popular as the T1R or SS 595 Yokahama Advan V103 - few good comments Yokohama Advan A048 - few good comments Falken 451/452 - a large range of comments from absolute best to a crappy street tyre....varied range of opinions. Kumho KU36 - even though very grippy, might be overkill for daily driven car and not last as long as others Kumho KU31 - good tyre but others on the list offer far superior peformance At this point , for my size , factor in wet and dry weather and for cost and durability Id say my best bet would be either the Toyo T1R or the Federal SS 595. Opinions, suggestions? -
this is a great tip...however...... my car is in excellent shape. Ive recently spent ALOT of money doing the 100k service and then more with a reputable mechanic, made sure I had everything checked out , all fluids from diff to trans fluid flushed and filled and all ancillary belts/timing belt changed. Also new rotors + pads all round. So doing all this and then being told that my car wasn't even roadworthy pissed me off and made it more apparent that most mechanics are just out to make a buck...on whatever they can Also had him wash the engine bay , this was done about 2000km ago. Since then there has been a tiny leak of oil due to (im sure) valve cover gaskets...not even enough to make it to the ground. Thats it, My car other then that is immaculate and spotless both inside and out , it is my pride and joy and I certainly treat it that way. I never knew I had to reclean my engine so that its spotless so I wouldnt fail...it is an important point to keep in mind ,IMO its nothing serious enough to fail someone for. then again my opinion isn't the one that matters. Anyway got pink slip , wasn't dodgy , guy just asked me to say that I lowered the car AFTER I had brought it in. Everything else was within acceptable limits and he was surprised about how every little thing still functions and could tell that it was "well taken care off for a 15 year old car...." Thanks for the help guys close thread

So I Spun Out Again - Wtf Is Going On?
tripsteady replied to tripsteady's topic in General Automotive Discussion
hmm google is our friend....so apparently treadwaear is completely relative to each manufacturer..ie only allows you to compare among the same manufacturer not across all brands in anycase , nice bit of info to know. oh well , ku36's all round then. -

advice noted , with time I will do all of the above wtf is treadwear 360? same , just a slight twitch of the wheel was all it took for all hell to break loose a h , didnt know ziex where known to be crap Kumho ku36's then? again , whats treadwear 360? -
to update : current faults : exposed but secured pod filter slight oil leak from valve covers(doesnt drip on floor) car scrapes when turning and going over bump at same time ( to low) also id like to add a little rant : its so difficult for me to get a pink slip because a) mechanic who did my 100k service(paden @ Unique Automotive) is on holiday until 28th Sep 2012 b) everyone i seem to go to wants to find something wrong , from a oil on the valve covers to the inside of my front tyres being very slightly worn out(still legal min tread). It seems like all they want is to con me into doing more work with them so they pick on every little thing and refuse to give me a pink slip! c) cant travel far too get it because this means il be driving my car unregistered which i dont want to do ($1006 fine and 4 points lost) so if anyone knows anyone in the hurstville/bexley area in Sydney that does Pink slips easily/fairly pm me!

only scrubs if going over a bump AND turning at the same time. otherwise not.

hey Guys So i need to get a pink slip for my car. Went to a places , they refuse to touch it because its to low...and i dont have time to go to pedders to put the height up.... anyone able to organise a pink slip PM me disclaimer: I am in no way doing anything illegal , the lowest point of my car sits at 102mm from the ground fully loaded. It just looks low because the guards scrub the tyres when turning.....

yes they have 30 levels. I figured that its daily driver so i out it on the softest setting on all four corners. could this have something to do with it? i accelrate , but ever so slightly. tyres are : Falken Ziex ZE912 265/35zr18 97w good tread.. lol , bakemono racer jab yes i will be doing this soon as well as above , its on its softest setting it its 30range of hardness settings no this was a completely different round about -
Hey Guys Car: 1997 R33 S2 GTST Tyres : 265's x9 rear and 235 x 8.5 front and decent tyres as well Suspension : Pedders Coilovers Ok so im under no impression that im a great driver by any means but now I spin out ALOT. I span two weeks ago ( a full 180degree spin) when going around the roundabout in the wet. I went around it quite slowly(factoring in that it was wet and in driving a rwd car) but I still span out. It took me by surprise as I was being cautious and didnt expect this so I span without correcting . Was doing about 40km/h.... first thought was I hydroplaned.... Yesterday it was pouring again , remembering my last experience I went even slower this time , but wasnt taking a right like before and was going straight through the roundabout , so a slight turn of the steering wheel was all that was needed. I was doing about 35km/h. Without warning after i turned , the back end slipped out, this time i was more prepared....so i corrected but my god that took me by surprise. I dont feel i have the skills to get myself out of trouble should this happen again with traffic around.... What would be cause this to happen? Coil overs? My missus car can go straight through a roundabout in the rain doing 40km and not spin out....why is the line so shit in rainy weather....to the point of being dangerous This has only started happening since i got coilovers(which virtually eliminated body roll)...im quite sure that the act that I have a much lower center of gravity has something to do with it but how exactly... whats the physics behind this? I assumed having no body roll was a good thing , but now in the wet I have to take corners slower! And what can I do to avoid slipping out in the wet all the dam time - already have fat 265's in the rear Cheers

this could be it, also thank you for sending me those anti squeal shims. I must say im quite impressed with gsl rally's co operation in this matter. It has changed my mind from not wanting to buy from them again to almost certainly going with them if I need anything else. others take note - This is how customer service is done. Cheers -

used them on my ma70 supra with rda slotted rotors ..good bite when cold , minimum amount of dust , no noise. A bit pricey compared to qfm at around $140 a set. Wish I had got them instead -

frankly is quite annoying that I now have to hold myself back from braking hard or the unbearable squeaking starts....which defies the purpose of choosing these over stock anyway. I'm annoyed that I was told its a street pad , yet sounds extremely un streetable to me. I would of preferred that gsl rally let me know this when i purchased it as I asked for their recommendation. I asked them about the a1rm and how streetable it would be , they suggested the hpx since they are low noise and low dust. Not happy as the problem sounds like its getting worse. rolling to a stop at traffic lights while every person in a 5km radius turns to look at you FTL -
