Has anyone broken a compressor wheel before?
Cameron_Datto replied to Lithium's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
i Dont believe its any thing to do with the air filter ..because of where the compressor wheel brakes .. most of the chunky bits would end up in the intercooler inlet side while the finner bits would filter though that .. so the internal damage of the engine would be minimal ,, Due to being Nylon .. BUT if you dont clean out you intercooler you might have problems .. -
Has anyone broken a compressor wheel before?

I have same Turbo and My Turbo had the same things happen as yours ,, piece missing on the Plastic Compressor wheel .. ALso Turbine SHAFT where the BAll BEARINGS run on had excessive wear on about 180deg of ball bearing running contact face on both bearings BUT the other 180deg of the bearing contact was normal this would make the turbine shaft to run off center when it rotated ,due to the Egg shaped wear on the shaft .. Just before the Ceramic Wheel let go ,, there was excessive oil smoke from the exhaust .. also it idled higher i guess it was from the pieces of the compressor wheel jamming throttle body ,, when i started to boost it was noisey from the Turbo and then no boost..the CERAMIC wheel said BYE BYE .. Just before this all happen i have driven the car HARD the previous time i used it .. And i thought what may have caused it was that the oil was to thin and broke down under the high temps causing the bearings to wear .. and put it out of balance which caused the compressor wheel to brake .. which made the balance worse causing the seal to leak .. then the ceramic wheel lets go .. if any one has other ideas on what happened let me know .. as i havent got a reason for the Oval shaped bearing wear on the turbine shaft .. which i recon is the start of the problem .... DID YOUR Ceramic Wheel let go ? Cheers Cam -
BMW Dont have Race days ,, They are Driver Training Days at the Race Track .. which is ok .... some of the reasons they DID have trouble with the rods is Because People Didnt run the engines in for 2000Kms and were not keeping to 5500 RPM limit for 2000kms ,, ALso there is only 1 APPROVED OIL for this Motor which castrol Make only for BMW ,, All cars in the last 12 months have a New Conrod material ..and all the ealier Cars have been updated .. So the Problem is Fixed ..

I think The WHITEs that came 2 outright in Targa Tas in there GTR made there own syncros ... you can Not buy all the parts in a BMW Getrag 6 speed as they only list certain parts in the box 4 sale .. other wise a exchange box from Bmw .. Getrag rate there boxes as the Maximum inputshaft torque in newton meters the box can take safely .. So not all Gearboxs with the Name Getrag are the Same ..

Hey Steve-sst .. can i ask how you KNow alot about WolF s ?

They are a cheap Copy of a Garrett Turbo ,, and from all reports they dontlast Very long .. There is no such thing as wet floating bearings they are just plain bearing and not watercooled ,, i would spend my money on some with a good brand name ..

i had the similar problem .. I was using a Aftermarket Blow off valve .. the spring Preload was to Hard on the blow off valve .. I was able to adjust the preload of the spring to a softer setting on the blow off valve to vent more air at lower pressures and fix the problem ...

Mazda RX7 turbo on a R33, suggestions plz.
Cameron_Datto replied to RNS11Z's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
The best Rx7 turbo upgrade is to Use the Rx7 Core and turbine wheel .. machine out a single turbo VG30 Nissan exhaust Housing to Fit the RX7 core and turbine wheel .. Hi flow the front compressor wheel of the RX7 turbo with a TO4 e trim wheel .. .. I just finnished making one up .. every thing fits together really well .. and the turbo bolts back in the std place on the exhaust manifold ... -
$350 Turbo made 253rwkw @ .9bar
Cameron_Datto replied to BOOSTD's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Did Bill from ATS Recomend the To4 "V" Trim comp wheel .. i was going to use a TO4 E 54trim wheel it is close to the same size .. and the surge limit should be better than the "V" trim at lower RPM levels .. and is more efficient up to 15psi .. I used the Ray hall web site compressor map programme to work it out .. it did show the the the V trim comp wheel in the surge zone when you put in the engine specs .. thanks for the Info so far Boostd -

BooSTD , just wanting to know the Finer details on machining the backing plate recess to fit the new compressor wheel ... Do you remove the turbine shaft from the centre core before you machine the recess in the cores backing plate ? aslo do you inlarge the dia of the centre hole of the new comp wheel to fit the turbine shaft ? cheers Cam -
What can you tell me about this turbo?
Cameron_Datto replied to T0nyGTSt's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Iam still waiting to hear good reports on these chinese Copy Garret turbos , there has been a lot on ebay .. -
The GCC 450hp Turbo ,, Do you know if they use the STD exhaust housing or a VG30 exhaust housing ... To me it looks like a Standard RB25 exhaust housing and that is why they back cut the turbine wheel ,,, Hmmm any Ideas SydneyKid ??

T3/T04 Chinese Copy Garrett Trubos
Cameron_Datto replied to Cameron_Datto's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Found pics of the same turbo and specs in a USA turbo site ForSale ,, they Call it a "Stone Mountain Racing Turbo " did a search and Found www.honda-tech.com the guys where using them on there hondas .. most of them didnt get more than 600 miles before the seals let go.. Also they where saying they had "wet floating ball bearings " but they where just plain bush type ..and the exhaust Housing metal cracked very easily ... What you said "White R32" sounds correct ... Hmm wounder if they Class the machine swarf left in the turbo as " wet floating Ball bearings " :Bang: -
Hi just wondering if any one has use one of these turbos ..there has been a lot of these turbos for sale on ebay lately around $ 900 new .. they are a To4/t3 Hybrid turbo using a 57 e trim and .63 ex A/r stage 3 exhaust wheel .. the specs are like a Turbonectics t04/t3 turbo .. the best give away of the turbo is the I.D plate on the Compressor housing out let .. Any way what are you Thoughts and experience ?

Has any one used this turbo set up .. as it seemed a good stage 1 up grade from the Std RB ceramic Turbo.. If any one has a good stage 1 turbo up grade for the RB25 around 200kw at the wheels .. let me know .. Cheers cameron
