Evening guys. Anyone bored and want to help me determine if my starter motor needs replacing? I lack the tools / knowledge for it. Looks pretty impossible to remove from the engine bay so i might have to try tackle it from underneath. Its super loose though so that may even be the cause of my car not kicking over but i'd say the starter motor needs to be replaced from trying to kick it over too many times. Anywho, i'm located in Jesmond. Let me know if anyone isn't busy and wants to help out a fellow skyline lover out! Cheers.

So I have made a new discovery while sussing out my starter motor , i noticed it wasn't bolted at all and was very loose and just hanging there . Could this be the reason my car isnt kicking over ?

Apparently its running on 12psi and it boosts pretty good for a GT28 turbo? The previous owner claims all work was performed professionally by Shift Performance and that its tuned for street use... Whats the average pricing on a tune?

Yeh i'd say i've buggered the starter as i have to try start my car 30+ times till she runs smoothly. I'm sure she just needs to be tuned. I'll invest in a new starter motor, then get everything pressure tested, then do a tune up. Hopefully that reduces the amount of smoke she blows and the issue of taking so long to start up. My cousin even suggested putting a standard computer in it for now and taking out the microtech as someone on here said they are a painful computer without a tuneup. Just not sure how the standard computer would go with all the mods done. Apparently newcastle doesn't really have any good tune shops?

Yeh pretty sure it is... NAB the best place to get a 2nd hand one? And are they easy to replace? Looks like theres a bit of crap in the way, wish i had a garage

Hey guys, i was trying to start up my r33 today, usually have to try for about 10-15 minutes as it either needs a tune / new spark plugs, then all of a sudden after about 5 minutes of trying to kick it over, it started grinding / clicking and won't do anything but that now... Does this mean the starter has gone? Or possibly immobilizer? Everything else seems fine eg: lights, stereo... so i don't think its a battery issue.

And it just looks like a VGA to VGA cable that microtech needs.... I'll look into it cheers!

I see. Well i ended up buying 15w-40 oil. i really hope the last owner wasn't trying to mask problems, although, with the occasional smoke that my car blows, it wouldn't surprise me

I see... can i download the software somewhere for my laptop so i can tune it myself? And are there presets you can select if you don't wish to customize it yourself?

Don't no the full details of mods done to my R33, just basic info.... So your saying that racing spark plugs do make starting up a pain ?

Haha fair call... I'll keep TRG in mind. Got my last service on my lancer done there so that's a bonus. I just need to work out if its a service or a tune up that's required then i guess... so plugging my laptop into the aftermarket computer and making changes won't really make a difference in the poor start up then i take it?

Thanks for all the advice guys! That's most frustrating if i have been lied to. He said something along the lines of being racing spark plugs, unlike normal plugs, they need to warm up before they perform properly and once warmed up the car starts fine every time. Its a pain really. There is a bit of exhaust smoke too, which is slightly troubling. The last owner recommended 15/30 oil, but apparently that's hard to come by so i bought 10/30 oil instead. I should probably of done a full oil change rather then just a top up though... Meh! I will most definitely want to join in on the cruise's etc. I work most nights though, making it hard

Good day fellow skyline owners. So here's the thing, I reside in Newcastle and have just purchased a modified r33 from Sydney and the last owner asked what my intentions for the car were. When I said daily driver, he told me that the first thing I'd want to do is invest in iridium or cheap plugs as the current ones are racing plugs and will cause the car to take 10-15 minutes to actually start up (kick over). This is difinitely the case but I just want to confirm that racing plugs are the real cause / actually have that affect?
