R32 Gtr Year Model Differences/improvements
mjtown replied to livewire's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I've seen that summary a few times - very handy. -
I tells ya, they are a good buy right now - especially if you can find a good one locally, like the white one the popped up on this thread a few days ago. Don't let a few kms throw you, mine is at about 85,000km at the moment (it gets used) and it is as strong as an ox. One of the best old-school performance mechanics looks after it here is Adelaide and he reckons it's in great condition. No mechanical signs of age. When I was in the market for a V-Spec a couple of years ago the importers here is Adelaide had none in stock, and the only one on Carsales was in Queensland and about $15k out of my budget (it was mint though). The importers advised me to wait and buy one locally if I could because the prices in Japan were starting to what you could get them for here - like I said, two years ago. Shortly after that I found mine listed here in these forums. I got lucky. My advice to those who want one is don't wait, and if you can afford it, go for a good, clean stock one.

Jason - I bought mine via private sale. The vendor organised for the 100 point check and roadworthiness test and associated rectification works to BE done. I checked out the workshop online and they came up with a good reputation, so I was satisfied with that arrangement. Roadworthiness testing accreditation is taken very seriously, so it's not worth garages getting up to any funny business. I paid to get the belts changed at the same time because they were still the originals (at 65,000km) and I didn't want a twenty year old rubber belt letting go on the drive back to Adelaide. As an aside, the plenum paint on mine is flaking but it's not a car that's been thrashed or had a hard life. It just gets old. Mine gets driven daily too by the away. Love it. No regrets.

I agree with Bob. As long as a thorough roadworthiness check and 100 point mechanical check comes up good then it's a good buy. Don't forget that it's in Victoria so they need to rectify any roadworthiness defects before it's sold, at their expense. I ended up having about $5k of work done on mine at the vendor's expense before I picked it up - stuff that wouldn't have been an issue to the vendor if I had bought it in SA.

Sounds great mate - just like mine. 100% stock except for an 'age correct' HKS exhaust from the front pipes back. I've never had it on a dyno. Let me know how you go and what you do. How many kms has she done? Mine's just gone 85,000km - it gets used most days. I'm never going to sell it so I don't really mind. One day we'll get another car and the use of the GT-R will diminish, until then I get to enjoy the driving.
