I thought i wouldnt need to get it engineered because patrols come with rb30s? Only thing is the car useto be a rd28 diesel.
-
If I dont want vct do I just weld or grub screw the oil gallery in the head and don't worry about tapping into the pressure sender? Also if I block off the vct i don't need to add oil restrictors to the head? Sorry about all the questions im trying to read up and search things as much as possible, I've got the head and block at home so I'm gonna start getting it prepared
-
Yes very true it did! But the vehicle was last registered with a rd28 which is the original motor. Yes ive read up abit on VCT? Not needed you reckon? Because that makes things simpler again. Because then I won't have to tap into the oil sender ect. You've been very helpful! Thankyou

A couple of mates are telling me not to stuff around with the 30DET and just stay 25DET. I want to do this for the torque, as I am in a 4wd. Does the rb30DET have considerably more torque? Also I know you can engineer rb25s in my patrol but can I engineer an rb30/25? Will they just call it an rb30? Thanks guys

Haha come on now. I've read it. I'm on my phone so it's a lil hard to understand ill have a gees when I'm home
-
Just a question I've read up a bit about what I gotta do to match the head with the 30 block, it seems fairly complicated, is it? have a series 1 head, I think it makes things a bit easier? Cheers
-
Nar mate I bought the car already converted to rb25
-
Okay thanks for that mate. I'll look out for one. Didn't get around to picking up the block last night so will do it today and then pull my rb25 block out. It's still attached to the gearbox. I gotta figure out what starter motor fits the rd28 flywheel. I'll keep the thread updated and I'll post some pics. There's a couple when I drowned it. Cars fully underwater and I'm standing on the roof! Haha Cheers

Yeah well leave the turbo out of the $4000 because it can be put on last, i dnt need the car on the road so if it sits there for a month or 2 longer while i save up some cash for a decent turbo i dont mind. Okays well i guess ill search around for one, ill get a manual one just to be sure saves the headache! Im gonna start getting a few parts together
-
Yeah i like the idea of the nistune, i cant find any z32 ecus? Should i search for 300zx ecus? A manual one is what i need correct? I thought $4000 would be plenty considering its not gonna cost me anything for the motor. As i got the rb30 for free pretty much and i already have the rb25 head. Well come on i dnt need the car on the road so what turbo should i get?? Keeping in mind everything i do has to pass a roadworthy in VIC as the car is not currently registered. BTW this thing flew for a 4wd it would be on par with my mums v6 commodore(yeah i know its a shitty ecotec, but this is a 4wd!)
-
Thanks for the reply mate I now realise you are correct. Z32 ECU and Nistune it is then. Can i use the standard AFM? I thought i cauld nistune a rb25 ecu. At the end of the day it's not a drag car haha. Sourced a good rb30 bottom end that I'm picking up today it's a s2 block which is good. The car gets revved so thats why I thought new heavy duty valve springs would be a good idea. Tomorow all the interior gets put back in the car as its dried out from getting submerged! Lol Cheers Zac
-
How so? I'm not touching the rb30 bottom end. So where is this $4000 going? I thought a $1000 for an ecu is about right? Especially if I go second hand. I'm keeping stock turbo for now.
-
I have a budget of $4000. I'm thinking freshen the head up with new valve springs while its off, anything else i should do it? And with the RB30 bottom end I have here just leave it as it is. After all I have a gq I'm not chasing 300rwk. Then say $800 on an ecu? I'd say $4000 should be plenty. I'll be keeping stock turbo for now. What type of ecu should i get so I can keep an eye out for a 2nd handy? Cheers

Okays guys well because my patrol had a RD28TD in it the rb25 swapped straight over, well im picking up a rb30 N/A engine for pretty cheap, i dunno whether to just re ring it and new big end bearings because that can be done pretty cheaply. Or just throw it in and boost it and buy a bottom end thats been done already when one comes up for sale? Also what should i get done to the head? Its had new coil packs but ive heard there no good and i should use spitfire ones? Also i know ill need a new ecu so whats the best bang for bang so i can look out? At the moment it just has a 25 ECU but it would be waterlogged. Thanks again.
-
Bores fine mate? Not a mark or score. Well I recon ill just re ring the 30 bottom end and put that in and get new valves springs for the head?
-
Yeah but the easiest thing to do is just put 2 new conrods in, take sump off and undo 4 bolts and there out, then the head just goes straight on and hook everything back up, then I can build up the rb3O I got
-
Hey guys got the head off today, what should I do to the head while it's off? Like I might aswell do it up abit. It looks like cyl 3 and 4 have bent rods, so instead of doing the 30 bottom end I'll see if I can source some cheap rods, does anyone have some laying around? Cheers
-
rb30 but yeah? no point putting in a 25 bottom end when its a pretty simple swap aint it?
-
really? Sorry mate someone has told me that even with a bent rod it should still turn over, so i just assumed valve because i know these arnt free flowing. Rb30 here i come haha. Can i use the rb25 ecu with the 30 bottom end? Thanks for the replies
-
Guys i know somethings buggered hence im taking the head off, just thought it might be a valve bent stopping it from fully turning over, if its the rods, ill get the head worked a bit and just throw a RB30 A6 bottom end in it. Looks like its a pretty straight forward conversion
-
hey mate ive already removed plugs and it wont crank over fully mate
-
Hey guys i know its not a skyline but you guys will know all because after all its an rb25. Well the car drowned(fully under water, dnt ask haha) had a snorkel but obviously not sealed. Motor had water in it and now it wont turn over fully, i put a wrench on the harmonic balancer nut and it will turn over to a point then i have to go bak the other way till it gets to the same point again. Also when i go to turn it goes soft hard soft hard, i thought with the spark plugs out it would be all the same resistance? Have i bent the rods? Im half way in removing the head, nearly at the stage of undoing the head bolts. So i will know more tomorow. Its an S1 RB25 BTW, i might have to do a rb25/30. For those reading thanks for your time as i know its not a skyline Zac
