  1. Hi all - todays meeting & chat & lunch was great ! - was nice to put faces to names & get to know fellow RB nuts !! - im extremely looking forward to the auto salon & believe that we'll have a great selection of cars for people to check out - ill get organised enough little "jap flags" to cover everyones id's - if theres anything else anyone can think of that needs doing dont hesitate to let me know & ill see if i can help - look forward to seeing you all at the auto salon - cheers malcolm
  2. ....good question - also what time at chillies ?
  3. Hi all - i guess if we all post a few ideas before sundays meeting we'll have a clearer picture of what people are thinking about etc - i personally think that we should steer well clear of a theme & simply display the cars as a part of SKYLINES AUSTRALIA CAR CLUB - keeping it simple with Skylines Australia banners flags etc & let the cars speak for themselves - i have never seen a "theme" at auto salon doesnt look "tacky & cheap" - well for sports cars anyway - (neons & chrome chequerplate & fluffy stuff & mirror balls & playtstations & tv's - can all be a bit "FLASHY" for a sportscar !!) - even toolboxes & tools everywhere could be too much!! - i always believed that pauls original idea was to display a good selection of well set up & excellently presented sports cars - this kind of approach in my opinion shows "class & style" - i couldnt imagine that a theme would do anything other than detract from the cars !! - well thats my 5 cents worth - im happy to be out voted on the day of the meeting but nevertheless need to put my thoughts across - see you all next sunday at chillies - cheers malcolm
  4. Cool !! - ill be there - wots the exact address - do we get off at the cumberland h'way exit ? - are ppls driving the car theyll be taking to auto salon ?
  5. ....im cool for plates - ive already got em ! - "2500R" - also if you want to go all out get a little sticker to go over your rego label (i got a little japanese flag made up to cover it) - a couple of show & shines ago i busted some "----wit" filming all the number plates & rego stickers with a mini dv cam !!! - my motto is dont give em an inch ....... !!!
  6. i had my car at autosalon about 3 years ago - theres no way you can drive them out & home till its all over on sunday night - ppl will need to make sure that can get home on fri night & back in on sat morn & the same for sat night & sun morning - when we meet for our chat is it with cars that will be displayed or without ? - im easy either way - but not keen at all to leave it in a pub carpark unless im sitting in it ! - oh i live north shore & can travel anywhere
  7. How about a sunday arvo outside (weather permitting) at olympic park - theres plenty of spots to choose from & its a central spot to everyone - carparks / reserves / picnic areas etc - id like to see the other cars that are going to be in the display - we could work out an order etc & get a feel for how things will look - much easier nutting it all out in advance - so we will be organised on the day - i thought one idea might be if we had a display that was in the centre of the room that people could walk all the 'round would be to have each alternate car facing the opposite direction - rather than having all the bonnets facing the same way - just an idea - will be good to discuss all this when we ALL meet up - any advances on a sunday arvo at olympic park ????....... sun 15 or 22 of april perhaps.....
  8. .....apart from flooring ??? - i think its agood idea to have ALL the cars taped off somehow just to keep "sticky fingers" from getting close enough to "touch" & "take" - if you know what i mean - doesnt mean that people cant be invited across the line to take an interested look or for a chat - but will definately sort out the riff raff ! - i think abo bobs idea of jap. newspaper is an excellent one - with a bit of research it would certainly be a very cheap yet effective flooring - is it also a good idea for ALL those who will be displaying a car to get together sometime between now a couple of weeks before the 5th & 6th to talk about whatever needs to be talked about - with cars or without ?? - im not sure ?? - any ideas ??.......
  9. Hi - id definately put my car up for that (im told its minty mint!!) - tried ringing paul on the mobile number given by shell in an email but came back disconnected ? - i can be contacted on 0414922209 - cheers malcolm
  10. GOOD FOR THE COMPLICATED STUFF TOO !! - PLENTY OF WORKSHOPS ARE ! - LIFE IS FULL OF MAKING CHOICES ISNT IT !!!!
  11. Hi - cant speak for croydon ive never had anything done there - i recently however had NISMO FUEL PUMP-NISMO 600CC INJ-GTR FUEL RAIL-GTR IMPEDENCE MODULES-GTR INJ WIRING CARRIER-Z32 A/F METER-SPLITFIR COILS-TRUST TD05 TURBO- TRUST DUMP PIPE-NISMO FUEL PRESSURE REG-POWER FC+COMM-TRUST OIL COOLER ETC ETC fitted (to my rb25det) by Advan with brilliant results !! - a mate of mine who does a lot of rallying told me about a guy called paul fischer who was worth getting to tune as hes very good etc - it just worked out that he happened to be working at advan for a few months before moving to the states to tune over there - not wanting to kill an already 13 yo old car i asked for a modereate tune of just over 1 bar on hight boost & just under 1 bar on low ( i could have cranked it heaps but didnt see the point in a rear wheel drive car) - i ended up with a very respectable 332 flywheelkw & 260 rwkw - heaps !! - the car is now performing way beyond my expectations (doesnt struggle @ 160k's+ on the climb heading north from peat island toward gosford) also onboard a gtr style plenum & greddy profec spec b boost controller/bilstein shocks/tanabe springs/ front mnt-int-cooler/gtr rims/245-45-17 dunlop spec r treads etc etc etc - to answer the question i am personally happy with the result that i was given - there were no hidden costs to speak of - i did however nut out a plan on paper with peter from advan in relation to cost /versus/hours/labour etc & did source some bits prior & just handed them over in a box-Oh! one thing that i was determined to get right was the A/F RATIO which @ 11.7 is a great result - the highest knock sensor number ive detected on the power fc controller is 3 which is actually zero - as knock does not show on the controller until a number of above 35+ at least is indicated - all in all very happy & since this is the first time ive spent big $$ on power mods i couldnt be happier - there you have it !! - id be happy to have a chat with anyone whos thinking of going down a similar road as sometimes theres no better advice than speaking to someone with first hand knowledge- feel free to call me any time on 0414922209 - cheers malcolm - ps - considering all the power the fuel consumption is actually better as the a/f ratio was down around 10 before all the work - but hey! -who cares about fuel consumption in a rocket ship !!!
  12. Whats ridiculous is not accepting everyones constructive input at face value and using all suggestions as possible ways of constantly improving a forever changing medium.Sure there may not be 30 seperate categories to consider - but as Ive already stated a few more wouldnt go astray next time around - I cant wait - (it certainly isnt about who wins what/simply that fair principles are the constant goal to adhere to. ie:sportsmanship. - cheers Malcolm. p.s. no more posts from me till next year - thanks again to all concerned for an awesome day.
  13. What a fantastic idea - I think that with a possible 100+ cars entering next year that the event could afford to spread the love about more by having at least 30 categories to help ensure that most of the cars entered were appropriately considered for their often unique and original attributes - this will also help to ensure a friendly and sportsmans like atmoshere as the event grows and that the focus of the day is on all of the various cars entered and the individual tastes and influences of their owners - cheers Malcolm.
  14. Hi - Id like to agree that the day was an outstanding success, Id also like to agree that the organisers did an amazing job, Id also like to agree that the event was bigger and better than last year, Id also like to agree that the s14 that picked up best non skyline should have not also picked up best engine bay (rb26 or not), Id also like to agree that does this mean that it also should have picked up a best gtr as well ?!?!? Id also like to agree that my complimentary cap for most anally clean car on the day was kindly awarded - thanks again to everyone who attended and participated in an awesome day - cant wait for the next one - cheers Malcolm.

  17. Final Final say on Show and Shine by me. To be fair I should explain what was meant in yesterdays correspondence by "reoffereing/given up" of the trophies aquired from sundays event. In hindsight and with my apologies the word "concede" would have been a more desireable description of the issue discussed.I did not mean for trophy holders to actually physically abandon them.Rather "concede" that through no fault of their own that they are the holder of a trophy that holds no true or accurate attatched descriptive value in relation to their awarded vehicle, given the judging that was adopted during sundays event. The words "reoffer/given up" and now "concede" are and were used as metaphors to describe what would need to happen if tomorrow (or next year) the same cars with the same judges were asked to re-enter and rejudge the same event with a more adequate and stable set of tools as guidelines and parameters. It is clear and without question or denial that at days end with a few exceptions most categories and quite probably all ,would have posted new and more accurate, convincing and deserving results. "I now hope that we can all agree that no matter how hard you try you couldn't accurately nor convincingly rebuild a complete RB26 engine from scratch with nothing more than a tray full of kitchen utensils." The day was a show and shine day with prizes awarded to "BEST" cars in their category. Saying that thats not whats important is RIDICULOUS. For it not to be impotant there shouldn't then be any prizes on offer. If that were the case I would still be the first one there. And of course it's not important at the end of the day who wins and who doesn"t.It's just that if we're going to offer prizes it has to credible and fair. Guys a lot of you seemed to miss my point. I never once said that the day wasn't BRILLIANT. As an enthusiastic club member who is willing to go out on a limb and be honest I am simply just speaking my mind in such a way that I know will ultimatley be of benefit to all of us.Please DON'T bother belonging to any club or institution if you are not prepared to listen to other members points of view.I wouldn't. DON'T HATE ME I AM ONLY TRYING TO HELP. - Malcolm.
  18. SKYLINES AUSTRALIA “SHOW & SHINE DAY” Brilliant to see so many beautiful cars and meet so many enthusiastic people. A great day that should have been so much better. “Sometimes even a fantastic idea doesn’t always get the opportunity to achieve its full potential” sms text: 29/03/04 Lets all put this first one down (especially the judging competency or lack thereof) as a practice run. I must admit that when the prizes were announced I was astounded at the results. After receiving the barrage of phone calls and text messages I did the following day I can only be embarrassed for the larger proportion of recipients of trophies who know they won categories for which their cars were clearly inferior (unless you were in the company of a seeing eye dog) to others that were entered albeit due to a judging malfunction. I now agree with some other club members that most of the trophies awarded this year could be reoffered (given up) along with new trophies next year to help make up the additional categories and to also address the enormity of the judging debacle from the first and most recent event. Let’s face it there is no point in awarding any prizes at all unless they are awarded to the best car in their category. It’s a crying shame but it can be rectified – Let’s get it right guys! ! N.B. Things to consider when judging and defining an event: · Clear criteria for each category – entrants must know what they are being judged on. · Separate categories for each model – you can’t have an R32 GTR up against an R34 GTR. · A 1-10 point system for each criteria in each category.eg – cleanest/neatest/most aesthetic/originality/overall appearance/paintwork/wheels tyres/trim/accessories/ modifications/quality of parts used etc. 1 being low and 10 being a high scoring attribute, by adding them up you can easily and fairly determine the winner. · Judges must inspect each car thoroughly enough to satisfy each criteria in each category - ask questions if necessary (I only saw two judges inspect the Powerplay cars and only one of them took the time to inspect under the vehicle, talk to the owners and ask for the boot, bonnet, doors and glove boxes to be opened along with the seats to be moved forward for an adequate inspection of the inside/rear,undertray,boot space and engine bay of the vehicles. Some owners have gone to painstaking lengths to ensure that their vehicles are immaculate throughout and without this level of scrutinizing by the nominated judges this attention to detail would go unnoticed. It also helps to create a high level of competition. · All results and how they were determined must be posted at the end of the day for all entrants to view. · Judges must not have a car entered. · Judges must have a good knowledge of all categories. · If there is ever to be in the future the category of “BEST NON SKYLINE” the winner of that category for what ever reason can only win that category, not take a prize win from a category dedicated to first built Skyline cars. · When announcing winners clearly state who won, with what car and for what category. Leave a moment between each trophy to allow the respective winner to thank the club President/sponsor or friend who has helped with the preparation of the car. · The club President or representative should thank all sponsors of prizes formally. · Encouragement and thankyous should be noted to all non- recipients of trophies. It’s too late posting this kind of adulation the next day on an internet forum (that most new club members cannot access) when the cars that were so highly praised for “making the event what it was” were not the cars that were honoured by means of an accreditation on the day. At the very least these kinds of regulations should be adopted to help ensure the credibility of the vehicles and the prizes that they are awarded. Otherwise there will be a situation where owners with genuine cars for entry will not attend and prizes will therefore be awarded by default to cars that can offer little more than a sub standard example. “it would be a sad day that if out of all of this things didn’t get ironed out and a 2nd skyline club was formed for owners of skylines who appreciate a different level of involvement” sms text 29/03/04 “re; show&shine i was left thinking that not since america invaded kuwait had such a travesty of injustice been bestowed on the australian democratic public” sms text 29/03/04 signed: concerned SAU official By definition “Show & Shine” should relate to those cars that were the most complete and immaculate examples in their category. The monetary value of each car is of no consideration when judging a “show & shine” event-just how well each example was presented. Well here’s to a new and improved “Show & Shine” day for 2005; look forward to seeing you there. Malcolm
