Quote from Wikipedia : "A V8 Supercar must have a front-engine design and rear-wheel drive. Every car uses either a 5.0 L Ford "Boss 302" SVO or a 5.0 L Chevrolet small block race-engine (depending on the make) - capable of producing between 460 and 485 kW (620 — 650 bhp) of power, but generally quoted as a little over 450 kW (600 bhp) in race trim. Engines have pushrod actuated valves and electronic fuel injection. Both Ford and Holden engines are based on racing engines from their respective US parent companies. Engines are electronically restricted to 7,500 rpm." ... no doubt built/assembled here but sourced from the USA & CANADA ... ..

... Peter from Advan Performance has been building road/race/track car engines for over 30 years ... top bloke who does great work ... he has a dedicated engine build room & 4WD Dyno on site... I personally like places where your work isn't just taken off your hands so to speak & done behind closed doors ... I like to be able to drop into a workshop & checkout exactly what's going on & feel like you're a part of the process ... something that you can definitely do at Advan ... their number in Auburn is 96483366 ... ...

... yes you're right there were the 2 models of hard top XA & XB that preceded the XC COBRA ... & yes you've only got to spend a minute or two checking out Terry Ashwoods Windfield R32 Race Car to realize the reworking that is involved at level of motorsport ... as far as the V8 Supercars are concerned I doubt that a single piece of them could be found on a production model ... the performance engines are shipped in from Ford USA & Chevrolet USA racing devisions & just about everything else is purpose built the same for both cars ... i must admit they're awesome cars ... I've been lucky to enough to drive one of the actual comp cars (not one of the put out to pasture hot lappers) it was an amazing experience ... the whole car is like one highly engineered "roll cage / capsule" on wheels ... incredibly strong & as safe as you'd want it in a 160kph+ smash ... I just wish there was a production car race still ... if they can do it for the Porsches & utes ??? ... oh well one day again maybe ... ...

... i totally agree with you ... ... especially the bit about the Commodore & Godzilla ... comparing 6.0Lt RWD Auto V8's to 2.6Lt Attessa equipped twin turbo S6's is silly ... yes theyre both cars with 4 wheels a roof a boot & a bonnet but thats about where the similarities end ... i dont hate Holdens my first car was a Holden ... its just that for me they just dont have the qualities that i look for in a "driving experience" ... also call me old fashioned but the one thing that SS Commodores & FTV Falcons have that i would never accept in a million years in my "driving experience" is a "sporty" car with 4 doors ... correct me if im wrong but i cant think of anywhere else in the world that would badge an SS (super sport) or GT (grand touring / gran turismo) vehicle that has 4 doors ?! ... 2 door coupes naturally evolved for the sporting motorist because they behave better on the road as they are more compact lighter & more rigid ... ... but to be fair Holden has had the Monaro in its stables since the 1960's ... unfortunatley Ford USA saw Australia as such a small market it wouldnt "tool up" the Ford Plant here for a Falcon coupe even though they had a 2 door version of their own ... thats why the 1968 XT Falcon GT had 4 doors & by default so did the 1972 Falcon GTHO Phase 3 & every Falcon GT or FPV since (excepting the XC Cobra) ... the new Holden & Ford top end "sporty spaceships" like the Clubsport & GT BOSS are more muscle than sport in my opinion that cater perfectly to the V8 Supercar crowd of which there are hundreds of thousands which makes for good business i guess ... ... pity that the die hard supporters of V8 Supercars who would mortgage their house on the back of their beloved race series & car manufacturer to own a Clubsport or Boss dont realise or wont believe that the cars zooming around Mount Panorama arent Holdens or Fords but $800,000 purpose built race cars that "look" like Commodores & Falcons & they even share a lot of identical parts from Hollinger gearboxes to spool diffs to Alcon ferrous brakes ... Bathurst was so much better when there were all sorts of car makes in the field ...those were the days there was something special about the event ... ... ive had my Skyline for 10 years now & i still "get that smile" every time i drive it & still sometimes sneak out in it by myself for a mid week nightime spurt up to Gosford or down to Wollongong just for something to do ... i cant imagine ever selling it ... ... i think Ravi summed it perfectly when he said Skylines arent about logic & sense theyre more about emotion & desire ... ... cheers malcolm

... my apologies when i stated "competitors" i meant other Skylines or similar front engined turbo powered 4WD cars & not mid engined 2WD supercars - oops - sorry 'bout that ! -

... who honestly cares how an Independent Rear Suspension Grand Touring Racing Sports Coupe goes over 400m ? ... id be much more interested how it went over say a trip from Sydney to Brisbane ! ... ... an R34 GT-R is an awesome car with over 40 years of racing pedigree to back it up ... to even put it in the same sentence as a 10 sec Holden is ridiculous ... the R34 GT-R is the last true GT-R ever made ... they do everything a grand touring sports coupe should do straight out of the box & some !!! ... considering theyre quite rare for a production car due to their smaller than usual production numbers & the fact that they are a true sports car & not just one that looks like one & that they will outclass in everything from driving to performance to handling to build quality to value for money to resale value - $50,000 is CHEAP !!! ... wether its for a camera a tailored suit a set of sockets or a flash restaurant youll always pay more for quality - always ! ... an R34 GT-R isnt $50,000 for any other reason than it is of higher quality & better than its competitors hands down - you pay for what you get ... ...

... hi there ... i agree with chris ... "you are a p plater" ... "learn to drive first" ... i personally think that first cars should something practical, inexpensive to maintain, cheap to run & easy to insure - if youre like most p platers your car will become your second home & just keeping petrol up a 6 cylinder car can cost heaps - id go for a 4 cylinder maybe something like an sr20 - the na sr20 is a great engine in a smaller lighter car with plenty of power - i wouldnt think about getting into a more seriously powerful car until you are off your p plates & you have a few years experience behind you - as far as mods save your money until you can afford to do things to your car that will enhance how it drives - things like: brakes /suspension ie: springs, shocks, sway bars, strut braces / full exhaust / alloy wheels / sports tyres / regular servicing - sure you can add other things to make it look good but id get it driving well first before you "pimped" it up - remember that cars are mostly "liabilties" & not "assets" meaning that they cost a fair chunk of money to own & maintain & register & insure - buy a car that you can afford to run that fits your income. ... cheers malcolm

... talking of tracking iphones check this out it hapened to me last thurday ... hi - how's this - my iPhone 4 was stolen on thurs while shopping at Warringah Mall - i went to a friends workshop nearby & tracked it on Apples "mobile me" "find my phone" using his desk top computer - in 3 hrs we watched live on screen go to the city, Milsons Point & back to Warringah Mall - i had my friend stay beside the computer & went to the mall with another friend - i figured out via my friends phone at the mall & the computer at the workshop using "mobile me" "find my phone" on google earth that my iPhone 4 was at 1 of 4 mobile phone kiosks in a strip outside Dick Smith Powerhouse - i zeroed in on a possible suspect at the counter then had my friend at the mall with me ring my phone - when the suspect lifted it up off the counter to silence the call I reached over his shoulder & snatched it back - saying "thanks that's my phone mate" & walked off ... ... ... LOUIE IS THE MAN !!! ... he's been painting my cars for over 10 years now ... i first met him way back in 2000 just as i got back from London & got into imports then the word started to spread - he was then in Yennora then Wentworthville & now Smithfield ... he recently completed a "dip shell" lead wipe chassis up restore of a friends 246 DINO FERRARI - absolutely mind blowing "off the gun" zero orange peel finish ... (check out the rear end shot of my car in the "SAU garage" to get a handle on his off the gun clear coat finish thats NEVER been buffed EVER !! & that was painted in 2002 & still looks exactly the same now) ... he is the nicest, fairest, cheapest, fastest, most honest, most talented spray painter i have ever met ... louie is king !!! ... cheers malcolm ...

... hi i bought a guard rolling machine & did it myself ... worked out perfectly ... theres always a chance youll crack the paint if you bend it right back on itself ... not a biggy really though a good painter will be able to back mask it & sort it out without a problem ... more than happy to give you a hand if youre game to do it yourself - cheers malcolm

.... some stuff like this would be good ... PURE SKILL NO ROOM FOR ANY MISTAKE ... :0 ... Link: Nurburgring in the 60's .... these open wheelers were very quick & super light ... in my opinion the best Grand Prix racing that theres ever been ... these guys would come over the crest of a hill "airborn" at 250kph just to hit the deck straight into a 4 wheel drift under power into a completely blind corner ... nuts ! ... :0 ... -

... hi there ... ... theres nothing to indicate that this document originated from NISMO ... its a really incomplete list of the cars details & is only printed on A4 card & stored loose in the folder ... it isnt in any way part of a catalogue ... you are probably right ... maybe a french guy did it from Renault when the car was being prepared to re enter the market place & they wanted a list of what was on it ? ... ... ... it doesnt really matter anyway ... as long as whoever did it noted what they saw ... half japanese/english ... russian/eskimo ... would be fine ... ... ... i really appreciate all the time you spent working all that out ... that is very kind of you - thankyou ... ... ... cheers malcolm
