Hate to tell you but if Quarantine directed that the car must be cleaned then you didn't evade the cleaners. The docks would have given you a conditional release given by Quarantine so the car can be taken to Hobbs Bros for cleaning. The delivery officer at the docks would have been under the impression that this is what you were going to do. Quarantine will not have cleared the car in their system as they will not have the final release from a Quarantine Officer who inspects the car after cleaning and issues the release. Quarantine will follow it up and contact you. Quarantine are at Hobbs Bros every day & will be looking for your vehicle so they can re-inspect and clear it in their system. They will start to ask questions if they can't find your car. My recommendation is you take it back to Hobbs asap, mention nothing of having driven it on public roads, get it cleaned and re-inspected by Quarantine so it can be cleared on the system. There are huge fines for driving a vehicle on the road that is under Quarantine Direction, ignorance won't be an excuse as your Customs Agent informed you the car required cleaning. It may also affect how Quarantine controls future Directions and make it more difficult and expensive for others. ie: Quarantine could enforce that all cars to be cleaned must be trucked to the cleaning depot to avoid owners driving off and not following Quarantine Directions. I am the first to agree that some Quarantine Directions are inexplicable and seem to be just revenue collecting, but if they direct a car must be cleaned, then it must be cleaned. Cheers

I was actually pointing out the fact that you said it had auction sheets (and it hasn't) and you said it had 20,000 Klms less (which it hasn't) That's what I meant by being fair when comparing vehicles. Cheers

7 out of 10 R32 GTR's I see come up for auction in Japan have over 100,000 Klms. for some reason it's only the ones in Australia that have low klm's LOL. Nobody seems to know why but maybe the ships sails via the Bermuda Triangle and digits go missing???

Importing A Car Question
Jade replied to lows_13's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
BREATH would be quite funny considering she is the senior Policy Officer of the Government Environment Protection Division that is responsible for Ozone and Synthetic Gas Can't help you in the looks department though, I've never met her. Surely the number has sunk in by now LOL Cheers -
Importing A Car Question
Jade replied to lows_13's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Umm, as many times as it takes to sink in so this poor guy can hopefully stop his car from being shipped to New Zealand. By the way, Jo-Anne Beath & I are not the same person. Cheers Jo -
Importing A Car Question
Jade replied to lows_13's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Agreed. There is absolutely no reason to export the car to New Zealand. Something is amiss here! You can make an undertaking with DEH to have the gas discharged and a retro air con system fitted by a licence holder in Australia. This is not an exemption - it is an undertaking and you have 21 days in which to fulfil the undertaking agreement. You need to organise this through DEH Cheers Jo -

Of course, they are a part of the Air Cond. system. To put your mind at ease & to be crystal clear on the requirments covering of R12 I recommend you phone Jo-Anne Beath - her direct number is 02 6274 1603. Cheers Jo -
Importing A Car Question
Jade replied to lows_13's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Hi Richard, I really hate to contradict you but I can tell you 100% positive that R12 gas is an illegal substance and has been since 1996 and no exemptions will be granted from DEH. This can be confirmed by phoning Jo-Anne Beath who is the team leader of the relevant department at DEH. Her direct number is 02 6274 1603. Cheers Jo -
Importing A Car Question
Jade replied to lows_13's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
It seems the broker is unsure of the rulings regarding R12 so I recommend you make sure they are aware that in addition to the gas being discharged, both the receiver accumulator and the recharge ports must also be removed. Cheers Jo -
Importing A Car Question
Jade replied to lows_13's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Customs will not clear the car for delivery until either a Pre-Charged Equipment Licence number is quoted on the Customs Entry or in some instances an exemption number is given by DEH. Pre-Charged licences and exemptions will only cover HFC or HCFC (R134). It does not cover R12 which remains a prohibited import and must be discharged prior to shipment. Importers/brokers should always make arrangements to have R12 gas released prior to export from country of origin, it is a simple process and a discharge certificate (either translated or in English) needs to be supplied from the licenced Gas Discharge Station in Japan as documented proof for Australian Customs. Beside the inconvenience of having to wait another month for your car, I hope you are not getting charged for the shipping costs to/from New Zealand, as this really is an issue the broker should have organised for you in Japan prior to export as a part of the service. Hi, This is the 17 digit Vehicle Identification Number allocated to the vehicle in Australia and is quite normal. This number can either be stamped into the chassis or engraved onto a plate that is then rivetted onto the chassis. In Australia this 17 digit number becomes the vehicle identification number for registration in Australia and replaces the original chassis number from the manufacturer. The plate that you need to be careful of is the original manufacturers plate fitted to the engine firewall. These are the plates that should be embossed not engraved. These plates have Nissan Motor Corp and information including chassis number - model number - paint code etc. Cheers Jo

Sorry Interloper, the one that went to Firecracker was the only one I had left. Will keep you in mind though when I get another shipment. Cheers Jo

Need Help And Advice
Jade replied to fullo's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
I purchased a Skyline GTR 32 from an import broker in Jan 2004 and paid the cost of the car in the same month. The vehicle was built in May 1990. The car landed in Australia as a test car of RAWS in Feb 2005 and now the car is still in the workshop and has not been plated yet. Aug 2005, I rang the workshop and they said the compliance was complete, and had booked in for the inspection. However, till now they are still waiting for the VSS officer to come and inspect the car. I drove to the workshop last week and look into my car, everything is still the same as it just landed and all the aftermarket parts are still in the car. Then I asked them, they said they have done all the things for the car already except some minor stuff and the VSS officer will contact them four weeks before they come, so they will have enough time to finish it. It is over 2 years since I bought the car on Jan 2004, it is really annoying for me and I really need to sort it out as soon as it can. A couple of questions. Why did you wait 12 months to import the car? If it was being imported as a RAWS test vehicle it could have been imported at anytime from purchase date, so it could have been imported in 2004. Why did you import it for RAWS compliance? With a purchase date of January 2004 and a May 1990 build date the car could have been issued with an Import Approval in May 2005 under the 15 year rule. A RAW has 12 months to undertake all evidence testing/compliance work etc. If compliance takes longer (ie; RAW has difficulty passing/obtaining emissions/noise test evidence) then an extension must be requested by the RAW. Personally, I would think it unusual for a RAW not to have all compliance work well and truly completed before booking for the inspection of their test vehicle. With valid reason it is possible to change the RAW doing the compliance. Contact DoTaRS and explain the situation, I am sure they will understand your concerns. Before you contact DoTaRS it would be a good idea to line up another RAW who already has the licence for the R32 GTR. There are several already licenced. Hope this info is of help Cheers -

IT'S TOO LATE AFTER YOU'VE BOUGHT IT, DOESN'T MATTER HOW CHEAP, IF YOU CAN'T USE IT, IT'S EXPENSIVE. THERE ARE SEVERAL OPTIONS FOR INTERCOOLERS, ADD STATES THIS ONE FOR DRAG OR DRIFT ! CHEERS JADE
