converting a R33 gts4 to turbo?????
HKS34R replied to skylinegts4's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Spot on. The sump is different due to the different driveline configurations. The sump has to be modified slightly due to the pickup on the Skyline being in a different spot. Only problem I have had is with the wiring, however I have palmed this off to Quickfit Motorsport in Hornsby, who now have the R34 RB25DE loom and the Stagea loom. They will modify the loom out of the stagea to suit the R34, so all will be plug and play. All up, not including labour, so far I have spent just under $4500. Add say $1500 for labour (very generous amount) and it will have cost $6k all up. Sell your old engine, and any parts left over from the cut and it won't have cost as much as you think!! My 2 cents. -
Having done a couple of conversions, its alot easier to buy a front cut, because you never know exactly what you need for a conversion. For example, you may need to fit the bigger brakes in the cut in order to get the conversion engineered. Plus as predator stated, you can get alot of money back by flogging off all the extra bits that you don't need. Anyway, front cuts are not all that more expensive than a engine package so why not?? Also the reason why panels are not included, generally is because it is easier (read: cheaper) to ship without them. Plus you generally don't buy a front cut for the panels anyway.

converting a R33 gts4 to turbo?????
HKS34R replied to skylinegts4's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Stagea front cuts are the way to go. I currently in the process of putting a Stagea front cut into a R34. The cut cost me just over $4000 for the auto (compared to about $6k for manual). A couple of guys on the forum here have put stagea front cuts into their 33's without a problem. So far the swap I am in the middle of has gone without a hitch, even considering the fact that I am converting the engine from AWD auto to RWD manual. Seeing as yours is already 4WD I would see no hassles in the conversion. -
converting a R33 gts4 to turbo?????
HKS34R replied to skylinegts4's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Another option could be to find a Stagea front cut. They sport a RB25DET and 4WD. -
I wouldn't think it would be all that hard. Any decent body shop would be able to do it for you. What kind of kit are you thinking of getting?? I am looking for a decent kit for my R34, but have yet to find one. The Do-Luck kits are so-so, and I don't know whether Veilside make one for the R34 GTT. Anyone??

What really gets up my nose is that I have heard people having been issued fines because the officer couldn't understand the engineer's certificate. I have also heard of (read: been told by RTA officer), that people have gone to the RTA to get a defect cleared, and then getting defected down the road. The reason was "You could've modified the car since you had it engineered". :bs!:

My advice, if you are looking to turbo your car, go bigger than you currently need. Then because you have a good cat back setup, you can then upgrade the front half of the exhaust i.e front pipe and cat, once your car is turbo, instead of replacing the exhaust from the cat back (or full exhaust) again. This is the path that I have chosen on my R34 and I have not regretted it since. My exhaust is a bit loud (needed a silencer to get engineered), however this will quieten nicely when the RB25DET goes in on Wednesday!!

Easiest way to do it if buying a cut would be to swap everything over, brakes, master cylinder, suspension, etc. From experience, this makes it real easy to get it engineered!!

Difference between Skyline and Stagea RB25DET
HKS34R replied to HKS34R's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Yes. Apparently the 2WD sump bolts onto the 4WD engine but not the other way around. I hope so cos I need to transform the stagea cut from 4WD to RWD. Does anyone know what differences there are in the wiring harnesses for the stagea RB25DET and the R34?? As much info as possible would be great!! -
Being in the same situation, here's how I justified buying a front cut and putting it in: 1) Even though it may be cheaper to buy the turbo version, you don't know the history of the car, i.e has it been crashed, how good is the engine etc. It may be cheaper to do an engine transplant in your current car in the end; 2) Insurance is generally cheaper for an N/A car with a turbo; 3) Having to stuff around finding a car that you like, is in good condition, and then eventually selling yours. Add to that stamp duty etc. May be easier just to find a front cut. I will be doing a swap in my R34 very soon, and have no regrets about deciding to do so. My two cents.

Difference between Skyline and Stagea RB25DET
HKS34R replied to HKS34R's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Thanks specialk, I already have a stagea engine (Neo RB25DET) that is going in on Wednesday. Thanks for the info on the loom, too. I have heard that it shouldn't be a hard swap, but needed to know if there was any major differences i.e incompatible wiring harnesses etc. What was your reason for swapping from the Stagea RB25DET to another RB25DET?? -
Is there an R34 manual available too??
-
Is there be any noticeable difference from the aftermarket coil packs. I mean to justify the additional expense??
-
Viscount, Having read a couple of your posts in other threads, I would suggest that if you get a brand name, get an exhaust for a RB25DET. Granted, it might be a bit big for the current N/A RB25, but it will save you money in the future when you decide to turbo it. Using my car as an example, I fitted an HKS Super Dragger exhaust (3.25" cat back) for a little over $1100. There hasn't been any noticeable loss in power due to not enough back pressure, and I will not have to change the exhaust will be perfect for the RB25DET going in soon. My two cents. Brett

Thanks to SKY031 for the wiring diagram. Very helpful. However, I still have to send the wiring harnesses down to Sydney (Quick Fit Motorsport) to get the wiring harness out of the Stagea front cut adapted to my car. Moral of the story. Don't live in Coffs Harbour if you want to any modifications to your car!! If you do, prepare to travel. Anyway, that out of my system, hopefully my car will be off the road next week getting the RB25DET into it. Cant wait.

1998 Neo RB25DE For Sale
HKS34R replied to HKS34R's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Unfortunately the Neo out of my R34 will no longer be for sale. The engine conversion I was planning has failed due to the fact that I was unable to find an auto elec to do the wiring. However, should I find an easier cut to install, the Neo will be for sale again. -
Looks like the conversion isnt going ahead. Seems as soon as the Auto electricians here in Coffs Harbour hear "jap import" or "engine conversion" they run. Every one of them here said they wouldn't do it because its "just too hard". :bs!:

Yeah, it is to try an figure out which wires are missing. My thinking (read: personal experience) is that if I use the harness out of the cut that I have and use it to replace the harness that is in the R34 at the moment, all should be well. Just want to make sure. I have found a site though. www.pitstop.net.au. Has just about all the workshop manuals you can get. Although the R34 ones have to be ordered in. 666Dan: Everything that is in the front cut that is 100% working will be swapped over into the 34.

The cut I have is actually from a C34 Stagea.

Speaking of stagea's does anyone know where I can get my hands on a wiring diargram for a 2000 model Neo RB25DET equipped Stagea?? I have tried my local Nissan dealer and have had no luck.

Hi guys, Does anyone know how or where I can get my hands on wiring diagrams for a Neo RB25DE out of a R34 and one for an RB25DET out of the same model. I have tried my local Nissan dealer and they have been unable to source them for me. Any help much appreciated. Cheers, Brett

Difference between Skyline and Stagea RB25DET
HKS34R replied to HKS34R's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
The front cut also has the NEO version of the RB25DET. I am looking to transplant this into my RWD R34 and need to know of any hassles before hand, so that I can deal with them quickly and get my car on the road ASAP. I know that to transform the cut from AWD to RWD, you need to change the sump and pickup, but other than that I have not been able to source any other information. Any ideas?? Anyone?? -
Difference between RB25DE and RB25DET
HKS34R replied to HKS34R's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
hey guys, as a bit of a sidetrack, anyone know how hard it is to transplant a NEO-RB25DET out of an auto Stagea into a NEO-RB25DE R34?? The sump has to be changed. The wiring loom is different (how??). Anyone care to expand on this. Much appreciated. Brett
