there are two circular things on the side....one adjusts the front of the seat and the other adjusts the rear...
it lowers the seat slightly... try that first...

ecu will reset - that will retard (?) the timing a bit but it will re-learn itself quickly.
people take off their battery all the time whether it wud be for a sound install, or installing an rsm/pfc whatever...

I (and quite a few other members here) have always been to Bob-Jane Taringa and they have never been anything but helpful. One dude there is a bit up himself (name starts with T). Milton is the franchise owner and has always looked after me.
Go in there knowing what size rims/tyres/offset you want and they can check it up on the computer - you cannot expect them to remember every appropiate offset for every car.

not on teh low profile tyres we'd normally use with a 17" rim (ie. 40/45)

Any of the high end Yokohamas. Myself and two other mates use nothing but. They run ES100s, and I run the C.Drives.
I also previously ran the A539s... All are very good in the dry, and also pretty damn good in the wet.
