sounds about the right track. you can get away with the RB25 ECU and an SAFC for backyard spec.
-
pretty much what Cris and Greg have covered. strutbars and swaybars will just be a waste of money if you don't intend on doing circuit work.
-
oops... must have skimmed over the "Toll Racing" bit. definitely a NO. Was amazing to see all the teams change pads and rotors so quickly though. Insert prongs here, take out pads there, shimmy the rotor in here, give it a good whack and away you go.
-
how do you do string-line alignments? is it something one can easily learn?
-
Me! It takes me more than 30 seconds to take the first two wheel nuts off! Let alone pads and rotors.

nice... hopefully the loom won't be too much of a headache.

News: Excel Series Roars Into Qld!
Eug replied to gslrallysport's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
cool, how would you get involved in that kinda stuff? -
bingo!

i dont know what internals he's decided on, the $2k budget doesn't really stretch far. if he's going to see revs then i'd agree with the forged items. but for a 'stock' build up, then i personally will look into whatever fits into the budget.
-
$2k in my personal opinion isn't enough. shot peened & cryo treated rods is correct, something you should look into. i take it you're going stock rods? might be a bit of a waste. what's your predicted rev limit? it is a shame, i'd love to get stuck into it - unfortunately, i'm not one to do things by halves. if i were to do it, i'd sink an easy $10K. hello 9,000rpm. injectors, just use RB25DEt ones, fuel pump = gtr.
-
i live in qld corinne, so you'd be correct where's the reasoning behind not buying one? if you're basing it on financial position (i.e. petrol, rego, insurance, slips); then it's obviously variable from individual to individual. also correct on 'no matter what car', if anything i would think one would look after their pride and joy alot more than a clapped out tissue box with oreo wheels. nicely put... f1 drivers don't drive around in corollas for 2-3 years and decide to go pro. they build up from go-karts, etc. is this restriction only to power mods? there are other ways to go fast; driver skill, suspension?, learning the track, track rims w/ semi slicks, wheel alignments, etc.

He's asked if he should get an NA R33/R34, and I say why not? They did make them for a reason. I don't see why all the 'turbo owners' are saying to get a run around car for 2 years then 'upgrade', like owning an NA is some kind of taboo. (I am just generalizing with 'turbo owners' here). Get real, a car is a car... and a non turbo skyline is that. Despite its age, it will out perform any 'run around car' and provide a solid foundation for any type of motorsport the owner chooses to do. Not to mention it's a fundamental stepping stone in providing the skills and know-how in what everyone calls 'upgrading'. Extreme case senario; hold off on buying the 'oh so wonderful GTR' and just get a run around car, then upgrade in 50 years into your pagani zonda. I may seem bitter, but I'm not. I can afford owning a gtst/gtr - i just choose not to. The R33 GTS does everything I require of it. If anything I've probably seen more track time than many 300HP gtst owners, so what is it exactly that you have the turbo for then? (Again generalizing with the turbo). If we can skip all the garbage in regards to turbo vs. na; it's a never ending arguement - you will see that there's absolutely nothing wrong with owning one. I've driven a turbo, I like the turbo, but I don't feel as though I need a turbo - it's a personal preference, and people have to stop pushing their own ideals onto others.

i could draw up a 5k build for you right now if you want seriously though, just work around your budget. 2nd hand DET springs would be the cheapest and most effective upgrade while you're there. just be sure to get them checked out so that they have even spring loads. can't confirm the valve compatibility sorry someone here had their stockies re-ground mildly by Sure Cam stocko specs are 240º & 7.8mm reground to: inlet 255º & 8.2mm exhaust 258º & 8.2mm $170 per cam ph 02 4736 1742 a significant improvement over stock i would say, and would be a decent budget upgrade. is the block coming out too? balancing the crank would be ideal, but not THAT important. while your there knifeblade it

suspension is always a good place to start... that said, it depends what you want to do with the car?
-
i dont know... why'd he run wide? i still say it's a combination of all 3's actions. as to whether or not he did it on purpose, only he knows.
-
they are a good starting point as a first car, respond well to suspension mods, and have alot of variety in aftermarket bits. it's a good stepping stone if you intend on going for something with more power down the line - and admittedly you can never have enough. definitely would be in a much better position going from an na skyline to a 200+rwkw rwd car, than someone who's gone from a corolla into a 200+rwkw car. it's a progressive thing that builds on both the car and driver. the myriad of parts available is definitely a buying factor to consider, back then it was more financially viable to sell an NA and buy a GTST. with all the turbo motors getting rebuilt nowadays, along with a large supply of caliper/rotor combos available; you can do all the suspension mods you want while on Ps, and rebuild a motor to throw in when you're off onto opens.

you really dont know anything do you...

lol, did you guys have a fight again?

LMAO!!!!!!!!!! i'll pay that.
