Help - R34 Rb25De - Still Misfiring After Coil Pack Change
lkp posted a topic in General Maintenance
Had a misfiring problem - took it to local mechanic who replaced one coil pack and the car was running well for 1 day then misfire returned. I used one of the diy tutorials to replace all coil packs. car ran fine for approx 40kms then started misfiring again - nowhere near as bad as they were misfiring before I changed all the coil packs but misfiring nonetheless. What could be causing this? Spark plugs had been changed 7 months ago. also noticed that the two coil packs had different numbers on - 4 of them are numbered 543, 1 is 791 and another 8X5. they all have HANSHIN MCP1440 on the back of em except the one numbered 791 has MCP1340. Does this mean anything? All coil packs in there now are brand new ones FUJI ULTRA SPARK - sold by www.OSAKA.co.nz. As you've probably gathered, I am a newbie. Help please! Quote MultiQuote -

Hey guys, Ive made a previous thread here so check for full story....http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/442374-r33-some-kind-of-ignition-problem/ Took my coils out on the weekend and the plugs... coils don't have any visible cracks or damage.. in cylinders 2 and 3 ontop of the plugs was a bunch gunk which looked like a mix of oil and water, im guessing from when I washed the engine bay as the seal of my rocker cover were basically non existent??... cleaned the gunk out the top of the plugs and removed the plugs there was no oil or anything in the cylinders but the plugs most of them were horribly black and looked very fouled... just waiting on my iridiums to come and I will fit them then tape up the coil packs and hope for the best as I cannot afford splitfires right now... my question is guys do you think my coils are finished or just the gunk (oil and water) ontop of the 2 plugs was causing the coils to not do their job properly? ive let the coils dry out now for a few days any other recommendations?. Cheers in advance guys!

Hey guys, I'm new here just recently purchased a r33 series 2 1996 skyline. Anyway a few days ago I decided to clean the engine bay just at the car wash, after doing so I've experienced extreme losses in power and definite misfiring problems. When im driving it almost sounds like a machine gun and has no guts when I put my foot down. The turbo still spools up and it cranks over fine on start up, so im with the idea ive either got water in my coils or in my plugs and more so leaning towards coils cause if it was in the plugs the car wouldn't crank over??. I was having slight misfiring problems before I washed the engine bay but that was only when I dumped the throttle and was most likely cause the old owner had the boost set on 14PSI with a stock ECU. Car is reasonably stock; just the usuals... 4inch Pod filter, hiflow exhaust, turbo timer and boost controller I have a new set of iridium plugs on their way but what do you guys think, will changing the plugs sort the issue? or if water did manage to make its way into the coils will it eventually evaporate off or do I need to replace the coils?. Also I'm not hugely experienced with mechanics done the odd job or two. If I was to replace the coils and the plugs is it simple enough to follow a tutorial and do it myself or should I leave it to a mechanic?. Cheers guys and thanks for the answers in advance! also sorry if I sound bit stupid I'm just a newby to turbos haha

I removed these Splitfire coil packs from my car as I'm undergoing a winter project and going to a different ignition setup. Coils work fine, I double checked by testing them with a multimeter this morning and they're all good. In Perth. Local pickup or $300 delivered in Aus.

Removing an rb25de/det + gearbox Before I get any heroes, leave your negativity with your huge ego ay what do i need? - a simple but detailed explanation of how to remove an rb25de/det + gearbox. but anyway, hopefully this is an easy one for yous I searched, read, and googled a lot. But, I haven't the right forums or a detailed enough explanation to run with. So, what im asking is if there is anyone on here that believes that they 'know' the best/right way of removing an rb25de/det engine + gearbox. This will a first time experiencing removing an engine plus box so the more detailed and well explained tutorial the smoother this process will go. I have watched a lot of videos, which has covered a lot of steps to remove an engine. Though It seems almost no one does it the same way, some people remove a lot of components where some only remove 'the basics'. Watching lots of different videos and reading stacks of information is pretty overwhelming. If someone could post a thread, find a thread, link me a thread/ video/ anything that you think would help it would be appreciated. what do i need? - a simple but detailed explanation of how to remove an rb25de/det + gearbox.

I want to put in an LSD in it, and wondering if im gonna get my hands on a s13 or s14 LSD because they are easy to obtain and can handel the driving i do with the car. But then i wonder, if i just change the intestens of the diff, and leav the pinjong wheels from my existing diff, wil i have the same ratio as i have now? im not to edjucated in this, and googel havent given me any good answers!
