  1. I've got a set of Racepace adjustable cam gears from an old motor, that I would like to install into my new engine and they've been dialed in for the previous setup. My question is whether or not it will be fine to install as per normal? I.E. take stock gears off, bolt adjustable gears on, line up dots on cam gears to timing cover back plate, line up timing pulley to oil pump mark and install timing belt and idler and tensioner as per usual. Or will installing this way cause me to be a tooth (or more) out / screw up the timing? Pics to show where the cam gears are currently adjusted to I also have the head currently off and taking the stock cam gears off caused a slight ANTI-CLOCKWISE movement. I've been told to check the alignment ONLY from CLOCKWISE rotation. Would it matter if I just aligned the cam gear timing marks regardless of rotation direction, considering the head is off at the moment? Finally, I will be heading to the tuner ASAP after I have the car up and running, it will only be light driving to get it rwc'ed, registered and next destination would be the tuner's workshop. Thanks in advance

  9. Hi there, My son just bought a 97 R33 GTS, pretty good car for its age, all works well other than speedo, pulled out the transducer from the (manual) gearbox today and the shaft was bent and seized and the gear damaged. The drive gear in the box had also moved over on the shaft. Seems like the transducer has been forced in previously without being in mesh properly. Ok, just wondering where the best place would be to purchase a new transducer assembly as well as the drive gear and any retaining clips or pins needed? Cheers

  11. Car won't go into gear when running? So car was working fine when I parked it all gears worked fine, parked it for about a month, tried to drive it today and none of the gears will go in unless you push real hard and when you do they grind... Also when you push down the clutch all the way it takes like 10 seconds to go back up... So Im guessing the clutch is not being released so I checked the clutch reservoir and it was empty and there was a tiny leak from the hose which connects to where the clutch is. So I topped up the clutch fluid and it still doesnt work. Could anyone tell me how to fix this I will greatly appreciate it

  15. Hi guys I've been lead to believe by my tuner that my VVT cam gear is making some noise. Around 5000rpm every single pull a noise is picked up by the knock sensor, which keeps going until about 5500rpm at which point it stops, and the ECU sometimes thinks it's knock and pulls timing to compensate. Tuner seems to think it is my intake cam gear, and believes it may be getting a bit noisy for some strange reason. Noise has been described to me almost as a "ddddrrrrrrdrrrrrdrrrrdrrrrrrrrdrrrrrrrr" (best way I can describe it on here) and happens every single pull. Can only be heard through the knock sensor which makes diagnosing it a real pain, as putting it on the dyno every time I replace a component is not even remotely practical. Normally this would not bother me enough to pursue, but because it is affecting how the car drives on some pulls, it's not something i'm happy to leave alone. He has also suggested that it could potentially be a lifter, but that seems very unlikely as these cars have solid lifters off memory. So I contacted Nissan, and am unable to get a brand new intake cam gear for less than $1,200 which is absolutely absurd. So i'm now contemplating other solutions to my problem, and have been thinking I would actually be better off going aftermarket cams with adjustable cam gears. However my setup is still relatively stock with a few bolt ons (front mount, exhaust, cold air intake, nistune ecu, stock turbo, stock injectors etc). So my questions really are: 1. Are there any other suggestions for what this noise could be? 2. What other solutions would I have rather than paying $1,200 for a gear from Nissan? 3. Would going cams on a setup as stock as this even be worth it? 4. How much power would I lose if I just went adjustable cam gears on the stock cams? On a side note, I have recently replaced the cambelt with a GATES timing kit as I was lead to believe that could have been the culprit. Mechanic told me the previous cambelt had not been done very well, and had likely been overtensioned. So this rules out the cambelt or any related tensioners to it, but could reinforce the idea of the cam gear being the culprit?... Appreciate any and all feedback!
  16. Hi all, Bought a shift knob yesterday and was just wondering the best way to install it. I know of the double vice grip method but has anyone actually broken anything from just twisting it off without using them? Purely asking as I dont have vice grips on hand at the moment, and people seemed to have gotten away with just twisting it. Thanks
