Factory Cd Player

Hey all,

My Series II has a tape deck in it =\ and as far as I know there was also a single DIN CD player option, is this correct? If so does anyone wanna sell me their old one? I'm not right into stereos but a CD player would be nice. Anyone know if the AM/FM on them requires a band expander? Also does the factory unit read CD-R's and RW's? Lastly, does someone have the factory front and rear speakers they wanna get rid of? Mine is missing the fronts and the rears have child restraints drilled through them from compliance...

Man...

Best off buying a decent CD player new. If not, you'll need a frequency converter for the radio on a Jap unit.

Dunno about the CDR, but my old old old Kenwood deck did. Buy a new deck and then you don't need to worry.

Factory speakers... if anyone changed them like I did, they got thrown in the bin ASAP. The rears, unfortunately, always get drilled through in compliance, so I doubt you'd source them. New 6.5" speakers should fit in there with no modification. If you consider this option, take the grille off (i'm guessing that you'll be removing the child-restraint bolts if you're changing the speaker), and remove the speakers before you go shopping. Ask the sales guy if you can sit the new speaker in to see if it fits up nicely.

Oh... I've never heard of a single-din CD in the R33's... I bought an aftermarket pocket, but the Pulsar pockets (new) are nicer.

Don't really wanna have to spend $200 on new deck when I know I could get a decent 2nd hand one for much much less. Plus I'd really like a black head unit and 99% of anything new is silver or at least not black =\. I wasn't sure if there was a single DIN CD player factory or not, but I remember when I was looking for my car that I test drove a few that had Nissan Single DIN unit's in them. Mine has the single DIN tape deck and a fold open compartment that I'll be putting a timer in for a nice tidy look.

Surely someone kept the factory speakers?

Mmmm, depends. There's plenty of older black Kenwoods on eBay for less than that including postage. So you'd have to be offering speakers and postage and a reasonable deck for me to be interested

Dan... that's what I was getting at. A new, plain black CD player (no mp3) shouldn't cost $200, and my last (old old old) Kenwood was bought for $50 from Cash Converters. I had that for 6 years, and it was kinda old when I bought it!

A nice second hand one will prolly cost you the same as a frequency converter! (if you ever find a factory single-DIN cd player).

Anyhoo... go for a used deck mate, and some decent used speakers. I recken you could do it all for $200-$250 if you install it yourself. (PM me if you are, I have a guide)

Will most likely end up grabbing a second hand one from eBay, wouldn't mind the factory speakers if someone has them though...

Well.. i'll check the parcel shelf that I bought recently. I think it had bolts through them though.
