Short Drive - Currumbin To Murwillumbah

Hi Guys,

Over the Christmas break I had a chance to take a few drives…

If you have an hour to kill, I’d highly recommend the drive from Currumbin to Murwillumbah (via Currumbin Creek Road)

Directions

- Leave Currumbin – heading away from the beach taking the Currumbin Creek Road.

- From Currumbin Valley keep driving toward Tomewin – following the signs to Murwillumbah.

I think it’s approx 60-70km round trip

You will obviously be crossing the boarder into NSW

It’s a winding track. No real high speeds on the QLD side. Once you cross into NSW the road gets a little better and a few straighter sections closer to Murwillumbah.

NO dirt roads…

There is also a few ways to get back – Pacific H’way, or back through the hills into the Tweed.

If you guys have any other ‘short drives’ let me know.

All those roads are old news, .

Murwilumbah police dont like you coming into town that way either.

It is a nice drive however, just remember to drive inside your limits and within the constraints of the road rules on these roads.

If you turn down and go down to nimbin area its an awesome run through there as well.. and the "drive to suit conditions" signs you have gotta love!

Yeah it is a nice drive, but the twisty turny's are a bit bumpy, and VERY unforgiving.......

Didn’t think the road was too bumpy. The NSW side is way smoother.

I’m 50/50 on the roads around Nimbin. I’ve driven a few roads around the back of Byron. Some are VERY bumpy.

The road directly west of the Bryon turn off has been resurfaces a few months ago. Nice driving!

BTW, What’s the rule with the "drive to suit conditions" signs?

It would be great to hear some MORE of your favourite ‘Short Drives’.

AND maybe roads to stay away from.

Just did a 2 hour drive through pretty much the same area.. up past Hinze dam to Natural Bridge, and then down to Murwillumbah. Such a great drive, and surprisingly pretty quiet on the roads for a sunday afternoon.

Awesome this time of year with a bit of rain and its so green. I urge everybody to at least get out there and use their skyline for some great driving. That's what they are for, not sitting in a carpark, or doing laps... That's pretty lame in my book for a true driver's car.

I've seen quite a lot of Australia and the area 200-300km around the goldcoast is pretty unbeatable for the contrast between great beaches and the forests. In 30 minutes you can be on a 20km beach, the next be up in the mountains amongst the trees and green.

I found the suspension setup in my car perfect for those sorts of roads.. not too firm, not too light.. bilstein+whitelines are a great combo in an R32!

drive to suit theconditions signs means that there is no set speed limit there, u can go as fast as u like, but they are stating that u should drive to the conditions for your own safety. its a black circle with a line through it i think u will find on the sign.

Ummmm funny story... Just out side Murwillumbah there are a few of these roads with suger cain either side of the road (long bends with tall cain makes corning interesting)... Some of these roads i would not do more than 80kph on due to short reaction time required and narrow roads....

Needless to say i did go cain farming in my first skyline back in 2000 along one of these roads. Got bogged and pulled cain out from under the car of hours.... I left the road at about 100 after a truch rounded the corner at similar speed and wasent enough room for both of us... He left the road also....

That same truck ended up towing me out.... Left my whole exhaust behind... Got caught in the mud and broke off at the dump pipe...

Was a loud ride back to Brisbane....

if a police officer believes you are driving well over a suitable speed for the area and situation, you can and will be fined.

its not a open invitation to do 140 kph on a road that you cant see whats coming round the bend due to the sugar cane blocking your view

Bel we were all dumb once or twice....

I trying to help other learn from my mistakes...

I didnt feel comfortable above 80kph in these areas... As soon as i got to 100kph the truck came round the corner...

Like i said we are all dumb sometimes... Cant say id do it again....

To be honest it sh@ts me sometimes on these sites. I own a r33 gtst. I have done stupid things in my car and I can admit it. You dont own a performance vehicle just because it looks nice and drives well, give me a break. Id like to know how many of you goody goody grandmas actually take your modded skyline to a track and drive sensible 100% of the time on public roads. Just say nothing rather than bullsh@t if you cant admit that and have to pretend that your ned flanders because you cant stand up and be a man and admit youve made mistakes! on and off the road. girls

I mount Glorious and Mt Nebo a controlled environment? If not whats the point of driving there rather than anywhere else mate? Im 25 and the novelty of driving a car has worn off at slow speeds or with traction, skyline or not. So why waste fuel? Unless you are putting your foot down? Dont get me wrong I dont think it is ok, but every now and then I put the foot in on the highway or exit road when there is no other cars (1am-4am). Im not saying its ok to do it. And if I got pulled over I would wear it. All I was trying to say is that I personally believe that people posting things such as "dont do it on public roads etc!" probably have put their foot down in their car at least a few times on public roads, and Im not talking about that "just to the speed limit bullshit either!". Now, I will admit that I am 4 weeks away from regaining my licence. It was suspended for 12 months because of this. Will I risk the inconvenience of riding a bike 20kms a day to get to work again? deffinantly not! And will I carry on like a hypocrite and get up people when they say they do it? no. But I will in future tell them my story about rain and flat tyres and 40 degree weather! I just wont pretend to have been a saint until I got my wings cut. Does anyone understand what Im saying?

Just to get something clear....

I dont mess around much at all these days....

I was just sharing an experience from years ago that alearted me to the type of speed signs explained above....

I was not being a total clown but what i was trying to say is we have all been clowns before and we learn from our experiences....

every1 has tried sumthing in there cars on public roads at some stage in there driving careers. its a given, but the majority of ppl like to drive safely most of the time. where and when u do sumthing stupid or crazy is up to the drivers judgement, those of us who have grown and learnt from mistakes made in the past will be better off bcoz of it. i 100% agree that everybody who owns a performance car does for a reason, bcoz we all like the power, handling etc and we like to use it aswell, we just have to choose the time and place. to do so.
