Hi all,

As some of you may know, my uncle owns a camera shop in Sydney and is able to get a lot of goods at supplier/cost price. I have recently purchased a Manfrotto 241v camera mount from them and thought a few others here may be interested.

241V.jpg

Basically, the photo above speaks for itself. You'll be able to mount this both inside and outside your of your 'line and either snap/film while you are driving (filming is the goal in my case). Personally, my chosen mounting position/s will be from the windscreen and driver/passenger door. The position shown in the photo is probably not recommended on your Skyline (even with the support leg in place) ;)

Being Manfrotto, quality is assured... the entire unit is made in Italy using really good materials~ Suction is strong enough to lift an office desk complete with PC and Folders :worship:

Straight from Manfrotto Website:

Attaches to most non-porous surfaces. Ideal camera support in automobile or next to a window.

Weight 1.5000 kg

Load capacity 3.0000 kg

* By load they mean the actual camera mass and not the load that can be applied to the suction cup *

Sorry mate, only just got it during my lunch break today... first test run will be tonight on the cruise :P

I've asked around and there are guys who mount these on during their runs around Wakefield - it seems to be dead steady.

The most "unstable" bit of the unit is the mounting head I would have thought, but they have designed it in 3 pieces with clamps and spring screws - the thing is solid as a rock!

*above statements made whilst mounted on desk*

Real testing in 4 hours :P

If you want more stability, buy a hotshoe bracket, and another suction cup and pole, so it's fixed from the top and bottom.

This is probaly better for DV cameras (obviously), they are lighter, and there isn't much point in having a still camera in the car for trackdays.

Satanic, when you're testing, just use something with an equivalent weight, and drive your car pretty hard, straight line, braking and around corners.

The weight of the camera will surely surpass 3kg with the added g-forces, and you wouldn't want metal poles and a huge chunk of plastic floating around in your car on a track day.

Great info darK!

OK people, testing has been done from Friday night  Great news is that it works perfectly for my Sony Mini DV camcorder. As darK has said, this is way more suited for small camcorders (mini DV) as it is obviously smaller and more light weight!

Only problems so far (more like bitches)

1) The mounting head is not a quick release

2) The angle from the mount needs to be finely adjusted BEFORE you drive/film.

* Quick release would be good so you can take the camera out without having to unscrew everything :(

Not bad indeed. I would prefer one to actually be attached to the floor in the back and to be attached to the roof or to sit on the rear parcel shelf.

Let us know the quality of the shots, I am really intrigued into this.

Is this the best price that can be done??

they are a bit cheaper throught B&H, and as l'm about to order from there, need to see which way will be cheaper.

OK here's an update...

Been trying to test this thing in full over the weekend but the weather has been completely screwed up!!! All the footage is clear for like 15minutes, then comes up all blocked by rain/fog :(

I've discovered how you make the head a "quick" release... you put the support stand in before the mounting head  Still a bit tricky but saves the 15minutes required to set everything up again.

Putting it simply, cost price is $165.00 incl. GST - obviously my uncle is not going to do that for everyone so I guess the lowest people can get them for is $175.00 (small charge for processing, ordering etc.)

If people want them, just let me know... I'll organize a pay-per-unit thing :) if you want them, it'll be $175.00 (pickup)

Happy Days...

Original post changed!

I'd like to see the footage and also a few snaps of how you have got everything setup. EG the suction cap on the window and then is the second support rod just resting on the floor or is it bolted etc.

i am assuming it would clip on if possible????

$97 USD = $128 AUD

+ Shipping

+ Waiting for the order to arrive from America.

I'd say its much more worthwhile to join this group buy.

Satanic, can you post a still shot from the video, or even PM me it, just want to see what kinda angle this has.

Thanks.

Thanks darK

Below are some of the stills from the video I took on Friday night, as stated, weather was crap all weekend so much of it came out rather poorly.

About the angles though, you can pretty much get any type of angle depending on where you mount this thing. I put it in the top left corner of the windscreen to get this angle - it was just the most convenient place for me that night.

Shipping is pretty much n/a as l'm already ordering over 5K worth of equipment, yes its probably more advantageous to still go through B&H.

Though, do we (or can we) get a full tax invoice if we buy from this g/b?? As l'm a 'tog full time its just another tax write off for me.

    • One other question, is there a chance that changing the idle speed can lead you down a rabbit hole and is the reason the tuner didn't touch it? Reason I ask is because if that's the reason the tuner avoided it then I probably shouldn't be touching it lol.
    • Pfft. As if I'd ever point a high pressure washer at my car.
    • The nature of my commute has changed. Way back then it was traffic lights all the way, for ~28km. It sucked. When they finally stitched the expressway together I could do a good 15+km of it at a steady 80-100 with no stopping. That alone has gotten me down to flat 10s. Prior to that it was mid-high 10s. I can't remember the delta that I saw when I got the idle down. It was only ~150 rpm, because the idle speed was never terrible, but for the delta in consumption to be noticeable it would have had to have been at least 0.2-0.3 L/100km - which is not to be sneezed at when it comes for absolute free. It's only about 50L per year, but that's ~$100. A few extra pizzas is always welcome. Note that I have a record of every tank of fuel that has ever gone through my car except for a handful put in by someone else, like my mechanic. I can show you the difference between stock RB20 and tuned RB20, stock RB5Neo and tuned, winter and summer fuel blends, winter and summer fuel blends when the ambient temperature is not appropriate for the blend, working O2 sensor, blown O2 sensor, boosting f**k out of it and frightened to boost it because it is pinging, and so on. OK, I probably can't do all that now with 100% clarity - but at the time when any of those things were in event, you could see it in the records. There's 25+ years of simple tank after tank records, so you have to look for landmarks to work out approximately how old any single record is. What's really important is the meta data and that lives in my head.
    • If you're claiming the issues are not skyline specific, then either the USA is living in the 90s / early 2000s, OR you have the issue of "survivor bias". Which is you're mainly hearing and listening to those with terrible experiences, and haven't found the guys who have cars with good decent builds and no problems. It happens in AU too, that plenty of people keep having issues, and they keep going to the workshops that are known to be shit "because I read on the internet". Even worse, are those who keep posting on the internet as though they know for a fact what something is, when they've never touched/looked at said item in their life, and again are making assumptions, based on something they read, or because it's a certain way in other cars. It's even funnier when those same people debate the facts with the people who've lived and breathed this stuff for over 15 years. Example, I've had someone tell me you can't do something with a Skyline, because they read it on the internet, except I can tell they're wrong, as I did that exact thing back in 2008 with my Skyline.
    • The funniest part I saw, was someone would bitch and moan on FB about something, Andy would be the one to respond, asking for more info, if he could contact them, what the engine setup is, what their config file was, and 95% of the responses were people just going "der! It doesn't work" and Andy going "What doesn't work?" And then going "The firmware!" And they'd go around in circles as no one could ever give information, and Haltech couldn't fault things on the bench, (especially when people wouldn't give any specifics).   Many moons ago, when Andy was back at e420c stage, he reached out to me, and asked me to test different plug and play looms for him (already had an e420c in the car on his V1 PNP loom). And he kept asking me, as I was competent enough to be able to give him some specific feedback on what was/wasn't working, how to replicate the faults etc, and work through things with him. Most people are terrible at answering the questions they're asked, or being able to provide quality feedback other than "it doesn't work".
